I have always wondered on why there is a military language sunken in the minds of those claiming they are in a battle between light and darkness. Over the years the gentle case of trying to see and understand has led many to at least martial connotations.
Like in Defender by Manowar:

It is no coincidence in the realm of utilitarian and capitalist thinking - where all is a THING and will be treated as THING and must benefit to a certain degree in order to be valuable - that real military power corresponds with military and martial connotations in spiritual regards. The strongest military power in the world - USA - has also the strongest fraktion of spiritual warriors calling for full military arsenal.
Shield, sword - spirit, word of God, etc. etc. Fundamental christian warriors are only one side. The other is on the same track. They throw away their bibles and feel attracted by esoteric revelations. Their belief system is a patchwork construction - we take what we need from here and there...
This should be no problem at all, if there is not a military connotation in many belief patchworks. You smoke? Bad! You eat meat? Fuck you! You are politically incorrect? Nazi!
Other levels on spiritual warfare are fought by esoteric means. Prepare for ASCENSION! You´ve got to understand the LAW OF ATTRACTION! Study the MERCABAH! Activate KUNDALINI! Some strange figures promote eating FECES, others SACRED SEX, some have tried to learn a LANGUAGE OF ANGELS.
2000 years ago in the Roman Empire there was a religious and spiritual complexity almost incomprehensible. The diligent student will find amazing similarities to our times. The manifold of approaches and spiritual expressions is simply amazing. Our contemporary time is only pale imitation of what has happened in Roman time...
The diligent student will also find some mind-boggling discoveries on so called spiritual warfare. A military linked language - St, Paul did so in the New Testament and St. Augustine later too - will aways lead to maceration of the strict rule of killing and hurting someone. A military language has always impacts on world perceptions. Buddha, Lao Tse and even Jesus spoke another language that contradicted any military connotation.
Capitalist inheritage makes it very hard for people to think without competition and struggle, for it is the essence of exploitation and seeing all as THING. Thus even spiritualism has become a martial thing in martial language.
But it is not only military connotation, but furthermore military inclusions: discipline, diligence, obedience and readiness to make sacrifices. A good warrior must collect many skills. He must must be trained and exercise hours of practice.
I must confess that I have no faith in such mental distortions. I need no military language, nor do I need special skills and exercise. The reason is: it is all love that counts, love only, love in countless faces and kinds...
I need no full military arsenal fighting a spiritual warfare. All I believe to fight has to do with me myself. I have two girls which are beautiful adults now. We had often difficult times and hated each other. But I have seen through their eyes and saw what love is: nobody will ever get lost, you love even you hate sometimes, for the opposite of love is not hate, but ignorance...
Yes, nobody will ever get lost, and each one has it´s own way to and with love. It is the manifold of expressions which leads me to believe there is no special need of skills and KNOWLEDGE, it is only for those who have a love for it inside themselves...
I have that love too, I love knowledge, and this is ok - for me. But I need no armor, nor shield and sword. I also do not consider myself part of an ARMY of whatever God or force. I´m not at war with whomever.
In my perception only love conquers all...

whatever it is or not, one essential way I see is losing fear: to miss this and that, to fail here and there, to be laizy or distracted, to have not done enough and so on.
The other part is similar - the convivtion of being great. Great in skills, great in perception and awareness, great in knowledge. The fear thing is holding us back to go forward, the "great-delusion" is holding us back from relaxation.
In my sight humans fear nothing more than not being valuable. Therefore they invent fake patterns making them believe they are valuable. And thus military and discipline mentality becomes a rule even in spiritual affairs.
Nothing against discipline and skills. But not as conditio sine qua non (imperative condition) to live a spiritual life. All I´m doing is pure luxury, I do it because I love it - but not as condition...
Yes, the old fucker is damn right...
And btw, KUNDALINI has always reminded me of NOODLES. Crazy, right?
