Depth Perception and the Hollow Face Illusion

The Hollow Face Illusion is spooky. The photo is of a flat sheet of plastic with a facial mask pushed in one side. In this case it’s the face of Albert Einstein*. It’s not surprising that when illuminated, the shadows give a perception of Einstein’s face. The spooky part is that the photo was taken with the face pointing away from the camera — It’s as if we are looking at the face from inside the head. But for most of us, it looks as if the face is pointing towards you; that is, the nose is closer to the camera than the rest of the face. Actually, the nose is is furthest away.

This is the first feature of the hollow face illusion: a “hollow face” that is pointing away from you looks like it’s pointing towards you. Spooky. The second feature is spookier. If you walk around a room and watch the stationary mask, the head turns! Or at least it looks that way. The face appears to follow you wherever you travel. Below is a video I made showing this effect. Although the video captures the illusion, the effect is stronger in real life.

As in the video, the figure below illustrates the spooky effects when you change your viewing direction**. When you view the mask from above you expect to see Albert’s forehead. This is what you see in the “normal” view; it’s not what you see when the mask protrudes away. When you view form below you expect to see the nose from below. Again, this is what is seen in the normal view, not what’s seen when the mask is pointed away.

That was cooOL..or should I say that was delighting? ;)...Since everything may be (probably is) light?..I wonder if consciousness itself may be pure light also? : ) Nobody actually knowzZzZ....I mean, if consciousness is the creator /witness of our worldly dream and also the creator/witness of other worldly dreams and all their respective "natural laws" .......what is it (or is it not) in actual matter or non matter made of? It is IMPOSSIBLE to even speak about it :)

It's like TOTAL BRaiN BLOCK.....NO IDEA WHAT SO EVER.....or should I say no idea will be good enough, because who ever that comes with the idea is nothing but a drop in the endless ocean of consciousness...he himself is created by consciousness..but what is consciousness made of?It must be light....BUT HOOOOOOOOW??? That's just sick...It's baffling... Its "Shock and Awe" @ maaaximum level....

...What is it or is it not in true reality? NoBODY FreaKIn KNOWZZzZZ!!?....I guess this is what Osho described as that which simply is unknowable.

When thinking about what consciousness TRULY IS MADE OF - This nothingness - this forever silent and rock solid, neutral witness - or should I say when thinking about this energy/force/pulse that governs and makes up the light inside the atoms(??):..

................A keen sense/feeling of "Brain/mind - block/failure/error" gets fantastically amazingly present....it is like a gravitational feel/pull of "restriction"...it gives the feeling as if one is actually touching the wall that keeps you from knowing the unknowable? The very e-motion of "you cannot know"...It's like "Warning, you are leaving game area, stay within map, warning, warning..."..... It's like a strong subtle feeling of emptiness??...Because you simply have no insurance/security on your idea about it? A feeling of "I simply really have no freaking clue"....It's like a tease from the creator...It's like a obvious complete total face to face tease from the supreme...Its like you may know it one day..or you may actually NEVER know it ever...

Then there is the final part of coming to terms with that you may never know what it is that actually witnesses your very life and death and everything which is before and after and in between.....What a ride...

Hmmm, some are saying higgs don't have inherent mass. Thats funny! Do we need another 'higgs' to give it mass or should higgs give mass to itself???

Exactly! I think what you are saying is corelated to speed of light. Other than saying that there is a speed such as c, faster than which nothing can move, it is saver to regard c as the threshold of our perception itself. Its not that there are no particles shooting faster than c, rather, we just can't see those particles move. With some others, we might think they are everywhere all at once (infinite speed)

When applied to spinning particles, the limiting speed gives rise to treshold frequency we know of which is the reciprocal of Planck's Time. Also when we add the troboscopic effect created by the blinking consciousness, it can neatly explain how something can be there before you yet you are not seeing it!!

Higgs bosons tentative discovery opened a fresh can of worms. Its mass is so fine tuned as to convince physicists that the universe was created intensionaly! So they concocted another theory; supersymmetry. Our 'promise messiah', higgs, was supposed to come down with the whole 'army of angels' accompanying him termed SUPERPARTNERS. However the 'messiah' came even without clothes! CERN is said to have surely ruled out the plausible versions of supersymmetry. Without supersymmetry, higgs makes no sense to many physicist. So the discovery of higgs raise more questions than it answer!

Light propagating in 'vacuume' is far more complex that first thought. While someone might say that light is more like pure element, like Hydrogen than the synthesis of elements like H20, this is an idealization impossible in reality. The photons would be seen as the atom that forms the 'element' we term it 'light'. However 'vacume' is a medium of myriads of substance. As the energy carried by the photons goes to exite other fields in space, myriads of other particles are formed from the matter-antimatter potential that pervades everywhere.

  the illusion of short moments of perception i would say ... and you are right it is all about the light ... ;)) the amount of it, the angle of it, the depth of it ... less we probably will see differently, more - likely see nothing at all ... ;))
  
  Have you notice with our eyes … if you look at some point of focus with both eyes is one way, if you close left eye and look with the right one the position is another, and if you close the right one and look with the left one is another … but the point of focus is always off center with all three … perhaps that’s why the ancients was suggesting ‘don’t rely on your physical eyes – develop the third eye – as it helps with the perception beyond the ordinary – the way the mystic sees… ;)) whatever that’s is … a very long way to find out … ;))

    What is the force that governs/creates - light/consciousness/perception - what is it made of?
    
    If all is about light - What is the "building stones" of light made of - the fabric of it - the substance - what is it in "physicality" or "non-physicality"? -
    
    I'm not demanding/requiring an answer - although I would be interested in hearing some thoughts :) -
    
    I'm just airing my thoughts on it. At least this is what I was trying to convey with my above comment.
    
    When thinking about it and asking the questions....my mind just "freeze"...because it is impossible to know the answer...hence trying to describe that feeling of "blockage"...and the feeling of blockage is in itself graceful...

      creation of light? - uhhh - that is fascinating question - fusion? - vacuume, heat, energy, frequency (speed, rotation) ... particles ... i think it's both physical and non-physical - us vs spirit, it could be so bright that we are not able to see the source the IT ... and it comes like a 'black hole' ... or dark islands or dark matter - based on its speed ... like for example if we take on object and speed up it will disappear from our sight only ... but it would be running somewhere else invisible to us .... light, time, gravity, space etc - maybe ONE - that is light?
