An event with historical implications will be held at the National Press Club in Washington, DC from April 29 to May 3, 2013. At that time as many as forty researchers and military/agency witnesses will testify for thirty hours over five days before former members of the United States Congress. The Citizen Hearing on Disclosure of an extraterrestrial presence engaging the human race will attempt to accomplish what the Congress has failed to do for forty-five years - seek out the facts surrounding the most important issue of this or any other time.

whilst what you say makes sense, I think the implications of this disclosure are far greater than that which you speak of.
what is at stake here is recognition of humanities ancestry, and our true place in the galaxy. and the universe.
Global recognition of this amongst this will give humanity a perspective that will catapult us up the evolutionary ladder.
It represents humanities maturing.
the energy we invest asking the asking are we alone will be diverted to answering questions we've yet to think of.

unfortunately the population of this planet will take the word of any 'legal government' more quickly, then somebody else, so if it comes publicly on national tv ... IF .... it's a big deal, not just for people who has an interest in this, but also the other half of population who are constantly lives in denial ... however respect the authority, it's a similar way as 'religion' ... if one will say that God is real its one thing, if Pope will tell that the God is real is another (it's just an analogy) ... now how many people will believe whom?
I don't know how authentic this information is ... but if more people become aware that they are a part of a bigger picture then themselves and what is in front of them ... it automatically expands ones perception to a bigger scale ... to me it's a very good start ... ;) I look back to 1986 at all the information that was available at that time and now .... huuuge jump forward in everything ... before it was for very selective people, and now ... well it's like night and day ... and it's still growing ... ;) who knows what we'll know tomorrow ... ;)

the citizens/people has been doing it all this time already, that's why we are aware of certain things ... if it would be up to the 'government' - 'ignorance' would be they best option for us ... as there is too many 'secrets' ... which leads to so-called power and greed ... ;) - now try to take that away from them .... lol ... i can only imagine the reaction ... ;)
