8111255864?profile=originalChina has begun to grow COTTON on the other side of the moon (and potatoes are next!): pioneering work on the moon's surface is the successful cultivation of biological material that is growing EVERY time for the first time.

The Chinese Chang'e-4 mission has successfully started growing plants on the Moon.

A photo of the China National Space Administration (CNSA) shows cotton seeds.

The mission brought several seeds to the Moon as part of its biosphere experiment, and this is the first time that biological material has been cultivated on the Moon's surface.

Other biological materials on the Chang'e-4 mission are cotton, oilseed rape, potatoes, Arabidopsis, yeast and fruit flies.

More plants are expected to grow in the next 100 days, claims the Chinese Space Agency.

Developing the ability to grow plants in space is an important step towards a successful, long-term space flight to Mars and beyond.

Find out more here as you don’t need to go to the Moon
