Awesome 80s music

My passion for 80s pop was reignited today via a Facebook posting today, and I ended up revisting my 80s favourites on YouTube. So much good music came out of the 80s and I have full respect and admiration for those artists. The lyrics are intelligent and meaningful and the videos are so funny and quirky, hilarious outfits and hairdos!

Unfortunately (in my opinion) pop music has pretty much gone downhill since then, and I now believe this has been deliberate on the part of those who control the pop music industry. I can certainly understand why they would want to suppress the kind of music that was coming out in the 80s - it was free-thinking, revolutionary and rebellious. Actually I was interested to note that rebellion against authority and convention was a frequent theme in the songs I was listening to this morning.

Anyway, I just wanted to share a few favourites, they really lifted my spirits this morning!

On a positive note re the current pop music industry, I am really excited about Gotye's new song Somebody That I Used To Know, which has just hit No. 1 in the US I believe. It totally reminds me of the 80s - it's genuine, from the heart and REAL. I haven't heard such a good pop song for a long time. Hope we will hear more like this.

Anyway, enjoy! : )

  • Oh yeah, love this one too, and I still love the movie. The turtle mountain thing is so cool! I thought the luck dragon was a dog, but nevermind!  It's so sad when the horse dies in the mud... I was in love with Atreyiu (sp?!) as a child lol! : )

    • Interesting! Only have a vague memory of this one, but it does sound familiar. Very interesting and original lyrics. Thanks for sharing : )

  • Yes I must agree with you about pop music going down hill......Definate case of dumbing down....

My favourite period late 1970s to early 1980s funk..........  I'll post one sample for you, to show how upbeat music was then....great for Lightworkers as the whole energy is positive and deliberately so.......  ;-)

    • Very cool and upbeat as you say, thanks for sharing. My musical memory only goes back as far as 1983, when I was 5 years old, and a number of my favourites came out in that year. So thanks for introducing me to the period to just prior to that, sounds good! : )

  • Labyrinth!!! yussss!

    • I know, so cool! I still love that movie. David Bowie was perfect for it. It was the first proper movie I ever saw : )

It sounds bizarre but I suppose Nostradamus had to make sense of the 20th century somehow."
