So there's a census going around in Australia and all my Christian friends are posting this status on their pages.

DON'T LEAVE THE “RELIGION” SECTION BLANK. BE SURE TO AT LEAST MARK CHRISTIAN (OR YOUR OWN FAITH).
1,000,000 MUSLIMS WILL MARK THEIR BOX.
10,000,000 AUSTRALIANS WILL LEAVE IT BLANK THEN WONDER WHY CHRISTMAS CAROLS ARE BEING BANNED IN SCHOOLS! NOT TO MENTION, EASTER BONNET PARADES!

I really cringed when I saw it. I know what they're saying because we have a lot of cultures coming in who have vastly different faiths and get upset by the traditional Christian teachings being taught to their kids in the Australian schools. They tend to lobby and petition rather successfully to have those original teachings removed and new ones that adhere to their own faiths placed in. I'm personally of the opinion that if you're going to move to another country, you need to expect to have their own cultures taught to kids in their schools, and it's a stretch to want to have those removed, they've been there thousands of years before you were.
However I don't think either religion or faith should be prevented or favoured more over another, they should be taught side by side and encourage further understanding of different faiths. Heck have the kids do presentations on their own and pair up kids from different religions to investigate different ones, you have no idea how much good that would do and prevent this stereotype terrorist or witch burner crap. And just because you're investigating other religions to learn about them doesn't mean you're converting to them, otherwise I'd be a Jewish Christian Buddhist Muslim Agnostic Atheist Wiccan Space Hippy Shaman Spaghetti Monster by now. A tad contradicting, no? But instead we all want to keep them seperated and ignorant of each other and thus they only thing they know about each other is what the stereotypes say, which only breeds hatred and bloodshed.
And I saw a friend presenting an argument along those lines to someone who had posted the above message yet he was slandered for being "narrow minded", of all the ignorance in the world, he is the one who's narrow minded for wanting further understanding between religions instead of bloodshed. I'm sorry folks, but you can't whine about lack of common sense in the world when you're lobbying for things that go against your own interest and welfare and only breed hatred because some politicians and the media told you to, who are all known to be owned and funded by private big time corporations out to protect their own interests and wars.

but at the same time the youth need some method of centering too, beyond the happy thought culture thats prevalent so much now a days, hmmmm, I hope this global shift starts moving along soon at a faster pace
oh and yea, I was just commenting on youth, not middle aged and older, cheers. for some reason I was thinking the people who posted that facebook census were younger, as it seems kinda, um, reactionary and simplistic, though I really shouldn't say that, as seems be now a days, that its almost the other way around with age groups, sometimes
