Light to See By

I thought that your face
was a beacon of light and hope,
but it only lit the lantern
inside of my soul
and now I can see.

All this searching,
looking everywhere for you,
only to find you
and realize you were always here.

But somehow,
if I had never looked,
I would never have found
what I always had,
I would never have seen
your real face
staring back at me
in the mirror.

They say we can not turn back
the hands of time,
that it is linear,
but I doubt it:
It is rather that we should not
fool around
with what's already perfect.

For all my suffering,
my mistakes and regrets,
the harshest lessons
I would not unlearn
for the universe itself,
even god in person,
because it knows
that what it made
is complete.

Actually I have made no mistake:
You are in fact a light
in the darkness
when you show others
how to see
on their own.
