(LifeSiteNews) — According to unearthed documents and at least one audio recording, social media researchers and the likes of Laura Ingraham are warning that America may be on the brink of an orchestrated “color revolution” aimed at toppling the U.S. Constitution. They only way to stop it, they propose, is awareness.

As detailed by an independent researcher pen-named DataRepublican, through a series of leaked videos and documents known as the “Democracy Files,” groups of former Obama and Biden administration officials, ex-USAID employees, community organizers, and retired national security figures are openly discussing scenarios in which the federal government is declared “illegitimate.”

This would allow blue-state governors to assert themselves as the leading governing authority, potentially leading to structural reforms of the Constitution ironically framed as restoring “deeper democracy.”

DataRepublican’s research shows that Renew to Thrive (R2T), co-coordinated by peace activists like Danielle Reiff and Rabbi Paul Zeitz, operates under a larger umbrella called the United Democracy Alliance (UDA). UDA coordinates major “blocking” NGOs such as 50501 and Indivisible.

National Security Leaders for America (NSL4A) — a group of roughly 1,600 retired military, intelligence, and diplomatic officials led by Rear Admiral Michael E. Smith (Ret) — is credited with operationalizing UDA. “Nonbinary” Erica Chenoweth is noted for conceiving elements of the framework under a “Big Tent” initiative.

In one recorded discussion, in reference to multiple “color revolutions” the United States has helped orchestrate in various nations, Reiff, a former USAID bureaucrat, projected:

There’s also the path… that we end up in a very acute legitimacy crisis sometime in the next few months or the next few years where literally our federal government becomes illegitimate. And in that moment… what we know from experiences around the world is that we can take that breakdown moment and leverage it for a big structural reform, you know, re-founding moment.

Zeitz, her colleague, described how the United Democracy Alliance has brought together the “blocking movement” of lawsuits, civil resistance, and non-cooperation under one banner. He said that the group has developed “a set of red lines” and plans to deliver real-time updates so the broader network can respond to developments in the 2026 midterms or the 2028 elections.

The rabbi added that National Security Leaders for America (NSL4A) is leading the effort and that an options memo was prepared for governors. According to Zeitz, if the federal government is judged illegitimate after crossing those “red lines” and there is broad agreement on that determination, “the governors become the leading governing authority under the current republic framework of our constitution.”

“So, this memo was designed for them. We’ve gotten it into (the organization) Governors Safeguarding Democracy, and they’re reviewing it and considering it. We also have done direct outreach to try to get it to governors in Wisconsin, Utah, and Washington State,” he announced.

Framing the federal government as ‘illegitimate’

In his comments, former State Department official John Mongan reported earlier contacts with the governors of Massachusetts, California, and Illinois. Massachusetts declined involvement, while California and Illinois expressed interest if another state took the lead

Mongan emphasized the value of advance planning so that governors could isolate what the group views as illegitimate federal actors and continue governing “at least parts of the country, in the absence of a functioning federal government.” He clarified that this model “is not a concept for a secession. No one is talking about leaving the United States.”

Obtained documents outline specific conditions which will be construed as the federal government crossing into “illegitimacy,” including manipulated or suppressed elections, a sitting executive preventing a successor from assuming power, a legislature populated through intimidation or exclusion of certified members, defiance of court orders or intimidation of judges, and the deployment of military, federalized National Guard, or federal law enforcement against voters, election officials, political opponents, the press, or peaceful assembly in ways that make democratic participation impossible.

DataRepublican offers a “translation” of “these criteria in plain English” proposing how they may be practically implemented: investigations into election fraud, delays related to disputed election results, Republican electoral success, actions against “activist judges,” or security responses to protests can be framed as rendering the government “illegitimate.”

Laura Ingraham: Toppling the Constitution to ironically ‘restore democracy’

Amplifying many of these concerns was Fox News host Laura Ingraham who, on her Wednesday night program, summarized how this strategy may unfold. She said that if the “radical left” is able to mobilize huge numbers of protestors in streets across the nation, President Trump “will decide to invoke the Insurrection Act, which allows him to deploy the US military for domestic law enforcement.”

Activists will then claim widespread abuses as the military struggles to restore law and order. Then the press will collaborate with activists amplifying their wild claims with video snippets on social media. Then blue state governors—this is their dream—seeing the chaos will unite to try to override federal authority, take over federal functions, and eventually even rewrite our Constitution or just dissolve it all together. And all actions taken are always going to be justified… with the fake goal of their ‘restoring democracy.’

Ingraham goes on to note that this is “being openly discussed among top former staffers of Obama and Biden, former government employees of agencies like USAID and of course community organizers,” and quotes Reiff in a clip stating: “we’re going to have to, if we want to live in peace and deeper democracy, reform our legal frameworks to foster collaboration across divides and unity and diversity.”

Employing classic ‘color revolution’ tactics used by USAID abroad

Popular X commentator Cynical Publius frames these activities as the domestic application of classic color revolution tactics previously used abroad by USAID-linked NGOs and others: funding parallel structures, training activists, building narratives of illegitimacy, using electoral disputes as triggers, applying elite pressure (here via Democrat governors), and seeking defections within security forces.

DataRepublican has also confirmed that the billionaire governor co-chairs Governors Safeguarding Democracy, which reviewed the materials, and that family connections exist to related funding networks.

These materials portray a coordinated effort to prepare for and potentially manufacture a legitimacy crisis around the midterms or 2028 elections, shifting authority toward state-level actors and enabling constitutional “re-founding.”
