Take responsibility for your actions

A good leader must take responsibilities for their own actions.  Always take responsibility for your actions.  If your actions ends in a bad outcome, and you deny that you had anything to do with it, people will lose respect for you.  But if your actions end in a good outcome, take credit for it as well.  As a good leader you must be able to accept both good and bad.

Face your fears

A good leader must be able to face their fears.  If there is an issue, or a problem at hand face it.  Do not run away from it, you need to tackle it heads on in order to overcome it.  By overcoming your problem and issues you become a stronger person for it.

Kill your emotions

A good leader must learn to kill off their emotions.  When in a situation where there are a lot of emotions flying.  Kill your emotions off.  Chances are other people are suffering as much as you do.  You cannot make prompt decisions when you are emotional.

Stay clear headed

A good leader must stay clear headed.  If in an emergency situation, and your mental capacity are not clear then you could end up making the wrong decision.  So to be a good leader you need to stay clear headed at all times.

Face facts

A good leader must be able to face the facts.  To be a leader one must be able to face facts.  What I mean to say is, if the facts are that some rations have been damaged then there is less food to go around.  A good leader must be able to accept this fact and move on from it.

Learn to prioritize

A good leader must learn to prioritize.  If you do not know how to prioritize, then your leadership would be at stake.  Some things can be done, some things cannot be done, some can be done right now, some can be done after a requirement is met.  These you must prioritize to get things done.

Learn to follow instructions

A good leader does not only know how to make orders but to also learn to follow instructions.  As a result to be a good leader you must also be a good follower.

Have good teamwork skills

A good leader must learn teamwork.  You cannot lead if there is no one to lead; all you would be is just alone.  So consider the availability of your peers and help each other out in completing a task.

Take charge

A good leader must learn to take charge/command.  If the situation calls for it, step up and take charge for without someone taking charge then the tasks available may not be finished.

Learn to delegate

A good leader must learn to delegate, you are doing enough by commanding the situation and see who needs to do what according to their skills.  You cannot do things alone remember to delegate.

Learn to multitask

A good leader must learn to multi-task.  Sometimes a lot of things must be done at once.  Learn to do  it, and you will become a good leader.  If you cannot multi-task then things may start to fall apart.

Observe everything and jot down notes if you have to

A good leader must learn to observe.  Watch everything carefully, see what is going on, who is doing what, when they are doing it, and what is the results of their actions.  If you know all these things, you can follow up on any situations and offer solutions to any problems that may arise.

If there is something you don’t know how to do, learn how to do it by asking or reading about it.

A good leader must learn how to do as much as possible; if there is something you cannot do, ask about it or read up on it.  A good leader know when he is not able to do stuff, and what he can do to change that.

Learn to trust in others, and in their abilities

A good leader must learn to trust their peers and in their abilities.  If you cannot trust then there is no point in taking command of those you do not trust.  You must also trust in their abilities, that they can do the stuff that you have assigned them to do.

Be loyal and respectful

A good leader must be loyal and respectful to their peers, if you are not loyal and respectful to them, how can you expect them to be the same to you.

Make the hard decisions

A good leader must learn to make the hard decisions.  If others are not up to standard then they must be taught or if still unable to meet standard they must be cut off as a liability.

Prepare to be blame by others

A good leader must be prepared to be blame by their own actions which may amount to good outcome but heavy losses; it is your responsibility to take the blame.

Take responsibility for indirect actions caused by your peers

A good leader must be able to take responsibility for actions caused indirectly by their peers.  If they are in command, then they are responsible indirectly for the actions.

Be a good listener

A good leader must learn to listen, by listening to your peers, you can find out a lot about them, their needs, and their skills.

Care about your peers

A good leader must care for their peers.  If something is wrong then you must be there for them, if no one is there for them, you could lose them to their problem.

Take care of your peers’ needs

A good leader must learn to take care of their peers’ needs.  Once their needs are satisfied, they become happy, and when they are happy work become more efficient and of higher quality.

Be succinct and clear in your decisions and orders

A good leader must be able to make decisions and orders which are both succinct and clear.  If these are not well understood by your peers then they may do the wrong thing and their actions may be undoable.

Be calm at all times, if unable to do so, relegate decision making to someone else

A good leader must remain calm at all times for without calmness the tasks may not be done correctly.  If unable to stay calm then they must relegate their decision making to those who are able so they can complete the task in your stead.  A good leader must learn this fact that they are yet “human” and cannot remain calm at all times.

Be polite and have good mannerisms

A good leader must learn to be polite and have good mannerism, without it, no one would listen to you, nor would they want to follow you.

Do not seek to oppress but learn to placate others’ needs

A good leader does not need to oppress other to make themselves look better, but learn to placate them with care and compassion.

If others cannot do the work that you gave them, teach it to them, so they will be able to next time.

A good leader must learn to teach their peers, if they cannot do the delegated tasks, by either through example or by talking about it.  No one is capable of doing everything.

Look for alternate solutions, for probable scenarios

A good leader must be able to find alternate solutions to occurring problems and think ahead to possible problems that may occur so that no more problems will arises.

Ask questions

A good leader must learn to ask questions about everything, how are you expect to know stuff if you don’t ask.

Set high standards for yourself, so that you may lead by example

A good leader must set high standards for themselves so that they may become the benchmark everyone must pursue in becoming.  By setting high standards for yourself your peers will do the same for themselves.

Hold your ground if you know you are in the right

A good leader must be able to defend their position if they know they are in the right.  Why move from the position if you are not wrong.

Make a retreat when you suffer more loss than needed

A good leader must learn to retreat, if the outcome results in greater loss than calculated there is no point in fighting if the losses are too high.

Apologize and accept consequence when you are in the wrong.

A good leader must learn to apologize and accept any occurring consequence if they are found to be in the wrong.  If you do not do so, then your peers will learn to not take responsibilities as well.

Think for yourself, but make informed and well thought out decisions.

A good leader must learn to think for themselves; but still listen to other people’s advices to make well thought out decisions.  If you do not do so, then you would just be following others.

You are not always right

A good leader knows that they are not always right; everyone is fallible and can make the wrong decisions at times.

Defend your peers

A good leader will always come to defence of their peers, no matter the situation, if your peers are wrong, then you must take responsibility for it.

Learn to read other people

A good leader must learn to read other people’s characteristics by way of being around them and observing their behaviour and interpersonal skills.  This is a good skill to have and will serve you well when seeing to the needs of every one of your peers.
