US middle class in 'lost decade' as income falls

Lower house values and foreclosures have hurt the economic position of many in the middle class

The US middle class is in a "lost decade" as its share of the country's income has been surpassed by affluent earners, a new report says.

The Pew Research Center found that 62% of middle class Americans reported they were being forced to reduce spending.

And 43% expect their children's standard of living will be better than their own, down from 51% in 2008.

Both US presidential candidates have offered competing plans for the economy to middle class voters.

The Great Recession and weak recovery have left slightly fewer Americans feeling like they are part of the middle class, and many who do still identify themselves as such say they are now worse off.

A new and comprehensive survey on how the middle class feels, released Wednesday by Pew Research Center, finds 42 percent of people who identify themselves as middle class say they are in worse shape financially than before the recession began. About 32 percent are in better shape, and the rest either don’t know or see no difference.

The recession officially ran from December of 2007 to June of 2009, although economic growth has generally been slow since and unemployment has remained high.

There is no hard and fast definition of middle class, but it’s clear from the Pew results that many people feel like the middle-class ideal is slipping through their fingers. The vast majority of the people who identified themselves as middle class also said that it’s tougher to maintain their standard of living than it was a decade ago.

It’s not surprising that many people feel like it’s harder to get ahead financially than it used to be. The nation’s median household income rose fairly steadily for five decades until hitting a peak in 1999. But since then, median household income, adjusted for inflation, has fallen by 7 percent, to $49,445 as of 2010. The Census Bureau is scheduled to release the 2011 data in September.

The people in the Pew study who identified themselves as middle class said it would take a median annual income of $70,000 to lead a middle class life, according to the researchers. The Pew study of 2,508 adults included 1,287 people who described themselves as middle class, and it was conducted in mid-July.

The self-described middle class is more pessimistic about their children’s future than they were four years ago. Less than half -- 43 percent -- said they think their children’s standard of living will be better than their own at the same age, down from 51 percent in 2008. About 26 percent said they think their children’s standard of living will be worse, up from 19 percent in 2008.

The weak economy and middle-class Americans’ pessimism about it will likely be a key factor in the upcoming presidential election.

In the Pew survey, middle class appeared to be more optimistic that President Obama’s policies would help them ?, with 52 percent saying the president would help middle-class Americans if he was re-elected in November. Just 42 percent said Mitt Romney’s policies would help the middle class if he was elected ?.

A separate poll, conducted by Gallup in August and also released this week, found that more than half of registered voters in swing states feel no better off than they were four years ago. That’s similar to the results from a Gallup survey of registered voters in all states.

Swing state voters were closely divided on whether President Obama could have helped them more. According to the Gallup survey, 46 percent of swing state voters said Obama has done as well as could be expected in dealing with the difficult economy, while 52 percent said he has not done as well as expected.

The Gallup survey included 970 voters in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Instead, they are tossing away 40 percent of their meals – “essentially every other piece of food that crosses our path” – or the equivalent of $2,275 a year for a family of four, according to a new report. Food waste has swelled by 50 percent since the 1970s in this country. A total $165 billion annually in leftovers gets trashed by homeowners and in unsold or unused perishables or scraps dumped by grocers or restaurants, according to research compiled by the Natural Resources Defense Council released Tuesday. Advertise | AdChoices “Given the drought, rising food prices, and increased food demands we’re looking at as the population grows, having a more efficient food system is going to be a critical step – but also one of the lowest hanging fruit (in terms of a solution),” said Dana Gunders, the study’s author and a project scientist at NRDC, a nonprofit environmental group. “Everyone has a role to play in reducing food waste,” Gunders said.

“This is just something that’s really flown under our radar. As a country, we just haven’t been thinking about this. But it’s one of the easiest things we can do to reduce our environmental footprint.” Ironically, the food squandering findings come just as a new Gallup poll shows that nearly one in five Americans say they haven’t had enough money to buy groceries on some days during the past 12 months. At the same time, a record drought baking half the country will help drive food prices 3 to 4 percent higher next year, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Much of the waste is fueled by food companies and grocery chains that oversell and overstock. Also to blame are consumers who over-purchase - packing their shopping carts and refrigerators with far more than they need after being tempted by buy-one-get-one-free deals that often include short, shelf-life items like milk and produce, the NRDC reports. “Food companies are businesses just like any other, and so they want to sell as much of their product as possible,” Gunders said. “Where it’s different is that their product is sometimes perishable.

So selling more of it in one go can lead to overbuying. But I also want to be careful about villianizing the food industry because I don’t think that’s fair.” An alliance of food industry leaders, including the Grocery Manufacturers Association, in 2011 announced a three-year initiative to cut the massive amount of food that Americans discard. The program aims to slash the quantity of food that winds up in landfills. Simultaneously, it would boost donations to groups that feed the hungry. The initiative is co-chaired by General Mills and Publix. “There is no bigger opportunity for our industry to simultaneously address hunger in America and our environmental footprint than by reducing the amount of food sent to landfills by diverting food to food banks and food waste to beneficial alternatives like compost,” said Ginny Smith, senior director of communications for the Grocery Manufacturers Association, which represents food-making companies such as Kraft, Hershey and Coca-Cola. The NRDC found that trimming waste in the U.S. food supply by only 15 percent would save enough edible goods to feed 25 million Americans annually.

The NRDC said its conclusions are based on a review of existing literature – including a 2009 report by the National Institutes of Health on U.S. caloric intake versus calories in the American food pipeline – as well as interviews with farmers and many people in the food industry. Advertise | AdChoices To begin attacking the problem, America could look to the United Kingdom which has launched several measures and campaigns to keep more of its food on the table and out of the trash, Gunders said. "We need to treat food a little bit differently when it comes non-perishables, and find other (kinds of retail) promotions," Gunders said. "In the U.K., some companies have been experimenting. Instead of using buy-one-get-one-free promotions, like for gallons of milk, you buy one and get another one free later, or they offer a buy-one-give-one, where you buy a food item and have the store donate another item of food to the needy." In investigating the scope of the food-waste problem in that country, British researchers have actually pawed through consumers' trash to gauge how much bread, bananas and butter is mashed into the discarded papers, bottles and cans. In the U.K. the government also has worked to standardize expiration dates on food and beverage products.

Many British grocers have stopped including those dates - often merely a tool to help store clerks stock their shelves with the older products out front. Instead, they use codes to help organize their goods. And if dates are included, they are truly meant to reflect when the food item is no longer healthy to eat or drink. "In the United States, we see them as safety dates but they’re actually not safety dates. And these dates are not regulated federally for the most part," Gunders said. "They are meant to indicate the manufacturers’ suggestion for peak quality rather than anything that would indicate the food is actually going bad. Under Barack Obama, the U.S. economy has performed worse than it did under any other president since the end of the Great Depression. After every other recession since World War II, the U.S. economy always regained what was lost and got even stronger before the next recession began. During this "economic recovery", we have not even come close to getting back to where we were in 2008. In fact, the number of Americans living in poverty and the number of Americans that are dependent on the government both continue to explode even as Barack Obama runs up trillions of dollars of new debt. Anyone that believes that Barack Obama is going to "fix the economy" if he is given another four years in the White House has taken way too many sips of the Obama kool-aid. The truth is that Barack Obama is not going to save you. Barack Obama has royally messed up our economy (along with a lot of other things) and that is not something we should be thanking him for.

Yes, Barack Obama is not solely responsible for the economy. In fact, he does not even have the most influence over the direction of the economy.

However, if he had been willing or able to actually do what was necessary to fix the economy, he certainly had ample opportunity.

For example, the Democrats had full control of Congress during Obama's first two years in office.

They were in a position to push through just about anything that they wanted to.

But just about everything that did get through Congress during those two years was full of really, really bad ideas.

More importantly, Barack Obama has done absolutely nothing to stand in the way of the nightmarish policies of the Federal Reserve.

Yes, the Federal Reserve does have more power over the U.S. economy than Barack Obama does.

But Barack Obama has made no moves to reign in the Fed or to stop their idiotic policies.

In fact, Obama has had nothing but good things to say about Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, and he nominated Bernanke for another term.

Talk about stupid.

If you were the owner of a pro football team and your coach had lost every game for several years in a row would you give him a new contract?

Of course not.

But even though Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke has a track record of failure that would make the Washington Generals blush, Obama has given Bernanke his unquestioning support.

Obama insists that it would be a really bad idea to ever question the "independence" of the Fed. Obama believes that it is a good thing that U.S. monetary policy is determined by a panel of "experts" that work for a secretive organization that has no direct accountability to the American people whatsoever.

Yet their decisions have a huge impact on all our lives every single day.

So since Barack Obama has steadfastly refused to stand up to the Federal Reserve and has had nothing but wonderful things to say about Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, it is fair to hold Obama at least partially responsible for the nightmarish economic conditions that Fed policies have helped create.

In the final analysis, basically every single decision that Barack Obama has made regarding the economy has been wrong. He has added trillions to our debt while flushing our economic future down the toilet at the same time.

Thanks Obama - you really have been awful.

#1 Under Bill Clinton, the average unemployment rate was 5.2 percent. Under George W. Bush, the average unemployment rate was 5.3 percent. Under Barack Obama, things have been much worse. The month after he took office the unemployment rate rose above 8 percentand it has stayed there ever since.

#2 Under Barack Obama, the velocity of money (a very important indicator of economic health) has plunged to a post-World War II low.

#3 Real median household income has decreased by more than 4000 dollars since Barack Obama entered the White House.

#4 The United States has plenty of oil and we should not have to import it from the Middle East. Unfortunately, Barack Obama has an absolutely nightmarish energy policy. #7 Since Barack Obama became president, the number of long-term unemployed Americans has risen from 2.7 million to 5.2 million.

Massive sinkhole opens near elementary school

A sinkhole that is more than 12 stories deep has opened up within just a few feet of a Tennessee elementary school.

The gaping hole sits in the parking lot of Love Chapel School in Unicoi County.

Neighbors first spotted the sinkhole over the weekend. They say it keeps spreading and getting larger.

"The best we could measure was at 122 feet (deep) with the last 25 feet being water," said Unicoi County Director of Schools Denise Brown. "At that point I told them we would start filling it to try and keep it from growing. It might be a little safer if we get it filled."

This is the second sinkhole near the school recently.

The first sinkhole destroyed a pool adjacent to their property. Students weren't allowed on the playground for two and a half months while crews put up a fence and engineers did work on the property.

This time, the school has cancelled class for the week as administrators work to move students to another location indefinitely.

NOTE; So what's causing all of these sink holes. The main reason of course is the massive amounts of earth quakes happening deep underground. Even though they are happening world wide it seems most to be happening in the USA. I think that is because of all the drilling and storage of natural resources, fracking and all the tunnels and under ground structures being made by the DC. The USA is there home base where they have city's and military bases, roads and trains. But the DC under-world is world wide. You are now coming into a peak phase of your Ascension process in which you will realize that all that you have become is merely an introduction to the expression of the SELF that you will soon display. All of your lives you have been building towards this moment of being a world leader.

Being a world leader does not mean that you need to be a governmental leader, for government will be very different in your new world. Instead, being a world leader means that you are among the Ones who are the leaders through the portals into the many worlds of New Earth. Hence, you will be a leader into a New World.

The portal to New Earth is not perceived by your physical senses for it is not a physical portal. It is a fifth dimensional portal and can only be perceived by your multidimensional consciousness. In Fact, this portal is within the NOW of the ONE. Therefore, it is within your High Heart.

In your third dimensional reality you are accustomed to recognizing reality on the outside of your body. However, in the fifth dimensional reality you will perceive reality from inside your SELF. As your consciousness continues to expand, you will remember how to perceive all reality from the inner perspective of your High Heart.

Many of you are beginning to FEEL the frequency of any given reality so that you may choose whether or not you wish to interact with that possible or probable reality. A possible reality is one that you may or may not choose to experience, whereas a probable reality is one you are already experiencing in some frequency of your multidimensional SELF.

If you can decide it is within your destiny to interact with any given world, you can open the Portal of your High Heart by going within your SELF to visit that reality.

On the other hand, you may choose not to interact with that reality. Hence, you will keep your portal closed. Still, you may choose to project unconditional love into that reality.

Finally, you may not be drawn to that reality. In that case, you can simply ignore that reality and flow your consciousness beyond it.

You are already choosing which third dimensional experiences/realities you wish to experience. There are many daily experiences in which you choose to either engage or ignore. However, as you continue to flow into the higher frequencies of Multidimensional Earth, you are entering the energy field in which Earth is transmuting into Her higher frequencies of expression.

Since Gaia is entering the multidimensional world of the fifth dimension, She is “trying on” myriad different versions of Her Planetary SELF. Whereas physical Earth could have only one concrete, static and time-bound version, multidimensional New Earth is expressed in myriad frequency and sub-frequency expressions of reality.

Because of the many possible realities of New Earth, more humans can ascend out of the third/fourth dimensional Earth and into the ever-escalating possibilities of fifth dimensional Earth. Just as you may visit many houses before you move into a new home, Gaia is visiting many expressions of Her New Earth. However, Gaia’s homes are on different frequencies instead of in different places.

Simultaneously, New Earth has always existed within the NOW of the ONE. The concept of different types of reality existing at the same time may seem impossible to your third dimensional thinking. However, that which is impossible to understand with linear, third dimensional thinking is quite normal within the NOW of your multidimensional thinking.

To assist you in converting your sequential, third dimensional thinking into your imagistic, multidimensional thinking, imagine that you are floating up from the bottom of the ocean. You are next to an underwater cliff on which there are many landings. You are looking for the landing that feels the most comfortable because it matches your frequency of expression.

To your third dimensional self, you may have thought of these landings as occurring in different times and places. However, since there is only HERE and NOW in the fifth dimension, these landings are on different frequencies. Just as some landings may be too high for your physical self to visit, some landings may still be too high for your ascending SELF to visit.

However, there are still many possible realities that are within your perception. Thus, you may wish to visit a certain possible or probable reality, or you may choose to move right in to the reality of your choice and get about the business of creating a new life.

The difference between a possible and a probable reality is that a possible reality is one that you may or may not choose to experience. On the other hand, a probable reality is one you are already experiencing in some frequency of your multidimensional SELF. The higher your consciousness, the more choices you will have, as you will be able to perceive more multidimensional realities. In fact, the higher your consciousness, the more realities you can simultaneously visit and/or inhabit.

You have waited your entire life for this moment and are NOW ready to live what you have been experiencing in your inner world. You will do this because your inner world will be your real world. By real, I mean that your inner world, which has been a private place in which you could interact with the higher frequencies of life, will soon be your primary reality.

Up until now you have experienced reality as something that was around your physical form. Now, you will experience reality as something that is within your physical form. Allow me to elaborate. What you considered to be real has been based on your third dimensional perceptions of your external world. Therefore, you experienced reality through the filter of your five physical senses.

Now that your Multidimensional Operating System is coming online and integrating with your Third Dimensional Operating System, your perceptions are slowly, and/or quickly, beginning to alter. Your vision is being expanded into clairvoyance. Your hearing is being expanded into clairaudience, your “feelings” into clairsentience, your communication into telepathy and your emotional communications into empathy.

Also, because you are moving beyond time, you are becoming more clairvoyant and learning to differentiate between a possible and a probable reality. To practice using some of your multidimensional perceptions, close your physical eyes to perceive your current environment through your opened Third Eye.

Before you begin this exercise, allow your consciousness to expand into the Core of Gaia. Then, pull Gaia’s energy into the Core of your earth vessel and up into the higher frequencies of reality.

As you become accustomed to the feeling of being led by unconditional love, you can begin to recognize that you are Flowing past myriad possible realties. You will observe these realities through the expanded perceptions that are the most developed or innately powerful. Therefore, some of you will see these realities through your clairvoyance, others will hear them through their clairaudience and others will feel them through their clairsentience.

When you perceive a possible reality with your clairsentience, you will feel it on your skin, within your aura and via your Essence. Initially, all three of these perceptions may feel as though you are sensing the frequency of a reality via your physical skin. When this occurs, expand your consciousness out to feel this sensation through your aura. Then pull your consciousness inwards to perceive this reality with your Essence within your Core.

Perceiving reality through your Core Essence is quite challenging because you have been trained to believe that reality it outside of your physical body. In the same manner, your Clairvoyance is based on seeing from within and your Clairaudience is based on hearing from within.

When you see from within, it often appears that you are thinking that you see it, but is only a vague overlay of the physical world. Hearing from within is often first experienced as a sudden thought that appears to be out of context. Every time that you trust your inner sensing, seeing and hearing, your expanded perceptions get stronger.

Furthermore, if you move these inner perceptions into your physical world, you will OWN your immense creative ability. For example, when you write, draw, sing, dance or follow you inner perceptions, you are allowing your inner life to set the course for your physical reality. In this manner, you will move deeper and deeper into the art of mastery of your multidimensional perceptions.

Just as if you can see, hear and feel your third dimensional reality, eventually you will be able to identify possible and probable fifth dimensional realities via your expanded perceptions.

If you choose to interact with any reality, open the Portal of your High Heart into that reality and bond with it via your unconditional love. Once you are bonded with that reality, you will commune with the members of that world through your telepathy and empathy.

Because of this interaction, this possible reality becomes a probable reality because you are experiencing it through a given frequency of your Multidimensional SELF.

In summary, you are going into the Core of your third dimensional expression of SELF to look out to perceive reality from inside yourself. You can see many multidimensional worlds by looking through the lens of your inner Third Eye.

Your Third Eye is similar to the periscope in your submarine in that it can look out of your body from the inside, then up through your current reality and directly into the higher expressions of your SELF. As you look into that higher expression of your SELF, you will feel the immense unconditional love from the higher dimensions.

If you choose to interact with that reality, you will open the Portal of your High Heart to that reality, and use your unconditional love to bond with that world. Hence, you have entered a possible reality, making it a probable reality that an expression of your Multidimensional SELF has chosen to join.

You have many exciting adventures to experience as you move into your Multidimensional SELF. Remember, time and space are third/fourth dimensional illusions. Therefore, you will not “run out of time, or get “lost,” as YOU are always HERE in the NOW.

Like Poof, I’ve given up on making assumptions as to when will be reading his last. And like him, too, I feel the ‘stimilus’ money is so close to being dispersed – and then ‘the shift’ will be done.

Greetings and Salutations;

You know I don’t write these missives because I can’t let go of some ‘urban myth’. The St Germaine trust all along was preparing for the ‘shift of wealth’ of the world when Europe was still digging out of the dark ages. The dragons started storing up for the shift, before the crusades. So, it’s not a case of their not being enough.

This has been the longest banking war, the world has ever known. The methods of the ‘art of war’ have been applied and when you have your enemy surrounded, you let them know and then prove it to them, they have no way out, except surrender or utter loss. The western mind believes you should kill ‘em all and let God sort it out’. The trick is, you win the battle but you don’t end the war…might take a generation but the war returns just with new faces.

This very time is about ending it for all the foreseeable future..So the war is at heated pitch and those who are holding on to the past are suffering masses losses to their forces.

These last number of messages I’ve given seem repetitive, in a way they have been. The ‘time’ is here and all the good guys can do, is clean up after their attacks and keep pushing for final victory, one that’s felt by the people intended…YOU. What ever shall the bad guys do, if they have no economic power over you? Or psychological power to beat on you with?

Even if you haven’t read ’1984′, you are getting the full effects of ‘non speak’. Doing the opposite of your words. The ‘clean air act’ is one. Medicare Reform is another. One has to get past the words, because the devil is always in the details.

Their assumption has always been: “you wouldn’t understand”, because the PTB (Stephen: Powers That Be) have kept you too busy ‘surviving’ to pay attention to check the subtle changes being done behind the curtain.

Now, when the go ahead is given to start the announcements, the howling will begin and everyone will be talking up their innocence….while they’d be figuring out some way to steal from you again.

In the early days of this country (Stephen: the United States), campaigns were a whole lot more nasty and personal. We’ve seen nothing yet. The cabal has its back against the wall so don’t be surprised at anything you hear from now on. When people are given direct ‘stimulus’ money…my, my, my, won’t the world shift then?

The only difference is, it’ll be hard to give money to the very people that are responsible for the mess. Unless you’ve deluded yourself, you wouldn’t want to to do that anyhow.

If you are watching, more and more banking institutions are coming up on charges. Don’t be shocked when this goes past a slap on the wrist and also the politician that were conspirators in their crimes against humanity.

Once again, I still see the failure to grasp how good this new banking system is with anything that attempts to disrupt it. Perhaps the bad guys wanted to see if they could create enough damage, so the folks in the rafters would give up. Somebody paid a Hacker to make a mess in the new system and he got prison for all his hard work and that’s called throwing somebody under the bus. Not a chance in hell of succeeding. No water for you mister…not the potable kind any how.

Beyond a shadow of doubt, victory is here.

It’s coming with extreme pressure to the point of knocking a hole in some folk’s reality. I have no idea how they’ll handle their results at the country club.

Some judges are taking night classes to bone up on common law. Bar Attorneys will no longer be able to practice in them…ruh oh.

I’m done talking about what will be. The ptb can tell you all about it, I’m going to the beach! There are 2 people in position to start telling you all about it and another to blow the roof off it all.

From what I’m told a lot of politicians won’t be making their way back to dc from their vacations. They had no idea, the adults were watching the whole time as they threw sand and sticks in each other’s eyes

Wake up Call: Nancy, August 20, 2012

Tonight I had another leap forward in my evolution. Was it a leap of faith or was it a leap of knowing? It was a leap into the depths of beingness that brought me to the realization of what I had gifted myself with.

I shall begin with tonight’s listen I made to the latest message on Hollow Earth Network from Zorra. It was the first message in several weeks from Zorra, brought through his beloved son, Zaraya. Toward the end of the message Zorra shared with us the information that there is a sister planet on the other side of the sun in our solar system. It is a planet to which those of earth who choose to remain in 3D will be taken at the time of earth’s ascension and return to her pristine self. They will stay there and live their lives as they are now, until they too choose to ascend into their fifth dimensionality and return to the earth, or go to their original home planets.

Those on the surface who choose to ascend to the fifth dimension will be taken to the various ships around the earth that are in readiness to welcome their family back to their families of origin. They will be welcomed and assisted to their various phases of recognition of what they can do once they either return to earth, or go on to their choice of places in the universe. Zorra said that after the surface of earth is vacated all of the buildings, and other manmade things that have interfered with Gaia’s magnificence and pristine beauty will be melted down into the earth.

As I listened to what Zorra said, that all that was not in harmony with Gaia at the time of us all being taken from the surface, would be melted down into her, I immediately was reminded of a day not long ago, in which I kept being nudged to go for a ride down a certain road in this area. It was a road that back in 2003, my pendulum had led me to when I was looking for an area in NM to which to move.

As Bob and I took this road and I found that it didn’t seem to be the same road, but was definitely in the same area. We continued until it turned into a dirt road, then we continued further. The area at first graced rolling hills and a valley that seemed as being sheltered from being overrun by habitation. After a few more miles the landscape opened up into wide-open beautiful terrain. I began to get strong feelings of being home.

Then I was receiving information about when I was living there in a former lifetime as a Native American medicine-woman with my tribe. I worked very closely with the earth, that we today call Gaia. My tribe then called her Mamousa. I had been able to instantly communicate with Mamousa when there was anything that my tribe wanted to do on, or with the land. I would receive information that was always in keeping with being in harmony with the land.

As I was relaying to Bob what I was receiving about my lifetime there, it was so beautiful, so much like I was actually in that lifetime, so strong was the feeling. I was reminded of when I first came into that land of mesas and wide-open spaces that year I was looking for the place to move to in NM. In that first ride into that area I was so affected by the beauty and pristine energy of the area that I almost lost my breath; it was coming in gasps, and feelings of complete ecstasy.

As I rode with Bob that couple weeks ago through that area, I knew that I was ‘home’. After we rode in silence for a few minutes more I then had a flash of a vision of me, as I was in that lifetime as the medicine woman. It was then, in the middle of the day in the summer time. I laid down on the soils of Mamousa, and I felt the heat as I turned red and melted down into the embrace of Mamousa, as I passed from that lifetime into the Oneness of Mother Earth. I had such a complete feeling of peace and love with the realization of what I had seen of the closing of that lifetime.

That was my Wake up Call for today. When Zorra said the debris of the surface would all melt down into the earth, I remembered that vision I’d had of me melting down into Mamousa. I immediately recognized the symbology that it represented for me. I realized that for the past several months I had envisioned that we would be given the opportunity to restore all of the beauty and pristine energy of Gaia once we all had ascended. I saw that it would be something that we could do and take good feelings from.

What I realized today was that in having that idea of being on earth and working hard to restore it over the coming decades was not what we would have to endure, because it was not us who did it! It was that group of lower energy people who took it upon themselves to take over and control us in order to get what they wanted. It was those who got so lost in the fear energy that they could not see what they were doing and be able, or want to spring forth from it. They also knew how to take over and cleverly hide our vision from being able to see the truth.

We are now able to see the truth. The veils are being lifted and now we have the opportunity to see the truth as it is. I was given that gift of clear vision today. What it also gave me was the gift of releasing any feelings I had of being responsible for the rubble and mess that is on the surface. I know that I live in love and harmony with Gaia/Mamousa and I don’t have to endure the process of the next hundred or more years of restoring her to her pristine beauty with machinery, hard labor, and more mess. I can celebrate with her and help to rebuild our home upon her surface in harmony and the beauty that she represents. From beauty and love is birthed beauty and love. It is that simple and pure.

I wanted to share this story of my new realization of what we are in line for and what the gift of taking a ride down memory lane can do for us. We can see the truth for what it means deep within and then go from there into the promised land of beauty, harmony, peace and love of our creation. We can do it in the ease and grace of love in its simplicity of gifting from one to another. All we need do is accept our gifts and know we are on the brink of a whole new way of looking at life and who we truly are. Allow your fears to melt down into the soils of Gaia as you let them go in this land of make believe. It is time for the land of reality of love come into being in our lives.

Government tightening its reins on Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac

(Updated 5:21 p.m. Eastern) WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Treasury on Friday revamped the bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to curb chances the giant mortgage finance firms could emerge from government control as the powerful, profit-driven corporations they once were.

The Treasury said it would require the companies, whose massive losses threatened the financial system after the housing bubble burst in 2007, to shrink their investment portfolios more quickly and turn over any profits to taxpayers.

Previously, the companies, which buy mortgages from lenders and repackage them as securities for investors, were required to make a 10 percent dividend payment to the Treasury. At times, they had to borrow from the Treasury just to make the payments, (back to the Treasury). Now, they simply won't be able to retain any profits.

The new terms mark the latest step in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's fall from grace. The two companies were highly profitable and politically powerful as the U.S. housing bubble built. Now, most officials think they should eventually be dissolved.

Lawrence Yun, chief economist at the National Association of Realtors, said the changes effectively make the two companies government utilities. "That new institution will be such that it's not going to be a for-profit company. It's just going to generate enough revenue to operate," he said.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were seized by the government at the height of the financial crisis in 2008 as mortgage losses threatened their solvency. Since then, they have drawn a total of $188 billion in taxpayer funds to stay afloat, while paying more than $45 billion in dividends, (amount paid back).

At the start of next year, the unlimited support the Treasury extended to the two companies will expire. After December 31, Fannie Mae's bailout will be capped at $125 billion and Freddie Mac will have a limit of $149 billion.

The companies' corporate debt price rallied as the new policy alleviated the need for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to borrow from the government just to make dividend payments, putting them in a better position to service their debt.

"You fixed the major flaw in the initial agreement," said Jim Vogel, interest rate strategist at FTN Financial in Memphis, Tennessee.

However, their preferred shares lost more than half their value in heavy trading as investors saw the plan as undercutting the ability of either company to ever emerge from government conservatorshipas profitable entities. Their common shares also fell.

With the U.S. housing market showing signs of improvement and Fannie Mae and Freddie Macreducing their portfolios of loans with poor credit quality, the government-controlled companies posted strong profits in the second quarter of this year.

The Treasury said the altered bailout terms would ensure that "every dollar of earnings that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac generate will be used to benefit taxpayers for their investment in those firms."

The American Bankers Association, which represents all U.S. banks, praised Treasury's move and said it helps ensure that taxpayers will ultimately be repaid.

Although the Treasury said the changes would accelerate plans to eventually shut the companies down, the announcement did little to address how that might be achieved or how the government's footprint in the mortgage finance market might shrink. Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the Federal Housing Administration finance nine out of every ten new home loans.

Early last year, the administration proposed three options to reshape the housing finance system, ranging from privatizing the market almost entirely to allowing the government to insure certain mortgages. But the administration has never provided detailed plans on how to move forward.

While Democrats and Republicans agree on the need to reduce the government's role in housing finance, they disagree on how sharply it should be scaled back.

Representative Elijah Cummings, a Democrat heavily involved in housing issues, applauded the new terms, which will also require the companies to annually submit plans to Treasury on how they will protect taxpayers' interests.

In contrast, Republican Representative Scott Garrett, who chairs a congressional panel that oversees the companies, characterized the changes as the administration kicking the can down the road and avoiding crucial policy decisions.

As part of the new terms, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will be required to reduce their investment portfolios at an annual rate of 15 percent instead of the previous 10 percent. That will put each of them on track to cut their portfolios to a targeted $250 billion in 2018, four years earlier than planned.

Fannie Mae's investment portfolio, valued at $673 billion as of the second quarter, holds distressed loans and mostly mortgages that were originated before 2008. Freddie Mac's investment portfolio was valued at $581 billion as of June.

During the years of the housing boom, their portfolios generated enormous profits.

You see, if people actually knew that they were consuming genetically modified ingredients, they would simply stop buying the engineered products on a massive scale. Monsanto simply cannot have that, which is why it is doing its best to squash any possibility of a successful labeling initiative (along with a conglomerate of corporate entities).

It is already well known that the general public is highly supportive of GMO labeling in general, with many polls finding that around 93% of the population is supportive of knowing what is in their food. Monsanto obviously does not care much about the general public, however, as exemplified by the company’s utter lack of concern over public health and baseline human rights. And if over 90% of support is not enough, then there is the Just Label it Campaign. While the actual end result of the mission is debatable, the massive support is not.

The GMO labeling campaign was backed by over 1 million signatures from around the country, all individuals who were seeking to help others learn what is in their pantry.

Whether its censoring research on their GM products, ignoring evidence that links the engineered crops to serious biological and environmental damage, or managing ‘slave-like’ workers on their corn fields for withheld pay, Monsanto has continually shown its true allegiance does not lie with the citizens of the world. The biotech giant has already made several moves to crush GMO labeling initiatives in the past.

Back in April following the announcement of a bill centered in Vermont known as the ‘VT Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act’ that would require the labeling of genetically modified ingredients, Monsanto threatened to sue the entire state in order to prevent its passing. As a result, the bill went on hold despite a majority (6 to 5) of Agriculture Committee members actually supporting the passage of the bill. Officials actually refused to take a vote. It sounds like mafia-styled intimidation, but it is actually just business as usual.

Instead of allowing Monsanto to win once more through intimidation and financial influence, vote “YES” on the 37 Right to Know California GMO labeling initiative.

Jobless rate rose in 44 states last month

Unemployment rates rose in July in almost every state, including those where the presidential election fight is expected to be fiercest, according to data released on Friday by the Labor Department.

Altogether, jobless rates rose in 44 states. Rates dropped in Idaho, Rhode Island and the District of Columbia, and were unchanged in four states: California, Hawaii, Ohio and Utah. (Click here for state-by-state rates.)

As the country moves closer to November's election day, voters' attention is squarely focused on the economy and a national jobless rate hovering above 8 percent.

Because of the unique U.S. political system in which states cast electoral votes for president, the contest between President Barack Obama and presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney is heating up in seven states where polling suggests voters are undecided.

In those states - Nevada, Florida, Colorado, Wisconsin, Ohio, Virginia and Iowa - jobless rates all rose or were flat in July. Nevada again had the highest rate in the nation at 12 percent, while Florida's 8.8 percent and Colorado's 8.3 percent were both at or above the July national rate of 8.3 percent.

In addition to being a perennial battleground state, Florida this year is home to the Republican convention where Romney will officially become the party's candidate.

Obama has been in office since the recession ended in mid-2009, and many consider the election a referendum on his performance on the economy. A majority of Americans view the economy as the most important issue facing the country, according to a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll.

Romney has hammered Obama about employment conditions. A recent Gallup poll found that 37 percent of Americans approve of Obama's job creation efforts, compared with 40 percent in February.

One of the victories Obama touts is the turnaround in Michigan, a state whose fortunes are tied closely to the automobile industry. In the 2008 election, Michigan consistently held the highest jobless rate in the country. Obama pushed through a bailout package for the auto industry during the height of the financial crisis.

Still, Michigan is considered a battleground state that is only leaning toward Obama. In July, its jobless rate shot up to 9 percent from 8.6 percent in June.

Iowa is considered a toss-up between Obama and Romney, and the president recently made a three-day visit there trying to energize the independents and Republicans he won over in 2008. Although the state's jobless rate remains low, it increased to 5.3 percent from 5.1 percent last month.

In North Carolina, the rate rose to 9.6 percent in July from 9.4 percent. The Democrats will hold their national convention to rally around Obama next month in the swing state, which is expected to go to Romney.

July's rate was 8.3 percent in Arizona, 8.2 percent in Indiana and 7.2 percent in Missouri - also all battlegrounds expected to vote for Romney.

Unemployment rates can rise because more people, encouraged by glimmers of an improving economy, re-enter the workforce. That type of hope, though, was not apparent in most of the states, said Philippa Dunne and Doug Henwood, editors of The Liscio Report, an economic newsletter.

"Of those states reporting statistically significant increases, only four - Alabama, Georgia, Nevada and Pennsylvania - reported increases in their labor forces, which can mean job-seekers were more hopeful about their prospects," they said.

"In the big states of Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Virginia and Wisconsin, labor force contraction was accompanied by increases in the number of unemployed, so those increases were of the nasty kind."

Still, for most states, jobless rates are following a downward line. Compared with a year ago, unemployment rates dropped in 44 states and the District of Columbia, and rose in four.

Nonfarm payroll employment grew in 31 states in July and shrank in 19, the Labor Department said. California added the most jobs, at 25,200, followed by Michigan at 21,800, and Virginia at 21,300. New Jersey lost the most jobs at 12,000, followed by Missouri at 7,700, and Illinois at 7,100.

This post and blogs of 3 comments had to do with with the blog from Galeeshea on Raheem and the dis-info we have been sent from the (false) GFL. (see link at bottom). There has become a division of believers and non believers like myself. As this is an extremely important subject there will be many comments on several sides. Hopefully to find the ''truth'',and continue on with our mission, our reason for being here. Thanks and have a good read!

Boy this guy has hit the nail on the head. I have been trying to work with and protect them from verbal abuse and then they turn around and lie to us again and again. And the last several times they were backed up by Salusa and Ashtar command and still what they said they would do ,did not happen. It was once again a great let down. And they did not give us a reason or an apology. Instead they acted as though it was our fault. So I wrote several large comments on there blogs but still no answers. I have been into this and Ashter command for many years and I am greatly let down and disappointed by all that has transpired. I still want to read what they have to say but the little voice in my head tells me as I am reading those false blogs that something is really wrong. But who else do we turn to after all those years of believing in them? This guy here has really bought the point home.Seems we need to let go of the GFL because of all the lies but that means Ashtar and Salusa and maybe some of the Pleiadians as well? So lets do what he said lets demand the truth from them. If everybody demands this either they will have to come forth with the truth or fade away.

I believe they will have to fade away. One of the sites I use ''2012 scenario'' refuses to put them up any more, because of the lies, many times. Then there is the question of who really is this higher authority and why haven't they contacted us before and why did they wait so long to tell us this. Now that we only got 4 mo.s left, or so we are told. So why are we changing horses now when we are so close to winning the race or are we really that close. From my perspective we are not close at all,in fact we are way behind as to what was to happen by the Dec. 21 date. I am seriously doubting that we will make that date. As for Ascension just maybe. But I have been getting the feeling that they weren't going to do anything for us for a long time. They were encouraging us to do it ourselves. That they never had the intention of helping us to complete our mission.That we had to learn to manifest all that we want to change, so they were just playing us along, hoping we would do that and not find out about them. All that I can say, is that this GFL that has presented itself to us as the real thing and the Ashtar command and Salua who back them the last several times ,have all been wrong. For the last several years they have told us many things would happen , and it has not. So to me, that is out and out lying. Now should the real GFL show up ,I would listen again. And the question is why have they(real GFL) let this go on for so long if they new it was false and was misleading us , not only to think that they were the true GFL but also in all the things that was to come to pass. I put myself out on a limb many times for them and nothing happened and the whole town here where I live now think that I am a fake and what can I say or do to prove them different, nothing. We need to know who is who and who is really in charge and why did they let all of this happen to us, when we are so near the Dec. 21 date of the ''EVENT''. So lets find out. lets do as he suggest and ask them or demand from them the truth. Who they really are and why they have lied to us so many times. And who is really in charge, is it this higher Authority. I know the supreme authority is Michael of Nebadan.

Thats in the URANTIA book. But no mention of the name Aton. But it could be,as everything else matches perfectly. But the spiritual realm seems to be mostly concerned about our Ascension and not to much on what goes on down here. Also I do agree that the GF and the GFL are not the same entity, they are different and have different agendas.What we need now is some clarity and someone with authority to stand up and say truthfully about what the hell is going on down here. We are in great confusion and it is only getting worse as we get closer to the ''Event'' and it wasn't supposed to happen this way. We were all supposed to get along and agree with one another and complete our mission as we promised. We did have a vision of the future that we wanted, but it wasn't this one. I think someone has put us on a different timeline in a alternate Dimension, because nothing is turning out as was planed. I know the DC went back and changed the future in the 70's and our space brothers went and changed it back to one that was the close's to the one that we had left in the 80's. But from all the Visions that I have had and all the connections to the spiritual realm.

I think we are way off course. The problem now is how to get back on course and who is who and what is what. We have got to much dis-info coming at us from the DC that we are at each others throats instead of working together as we had agreed to do before we came here when we completed the school for advanced learning. There were many variables we had considered, but this was not one of them. A house divided against itself cannot stand. And that is what they have done to us so called light workers. If we are to succeed in this thing ,then we have to stop bickering and put our heads together to find out how we can fix this problem as no one above nor below can do it for us. Well, things are becoming more clear. First off let me say that I do not like to be told how to react to this situation so if you would please keep your comments to your selfs concerning how others should handle this break away. I have been into this ''Event project'' longer than most of you have been alive, so I don't need to be told how to handle it.thank you. Now what we have here is a ''for sure break away''. It seems we have several comps now. The 1st is the org. group who still wants to believe in this old GFL , then we have the 2nd group who still wants to receive channelling and the info brought to them. But because they have been lied to so many times they don;t believe all that they are telling them. As Blossem Goodchild said herself, she will take it with a pinch of salt. Then we have the 3rd group which consists of those like myself who came from the 1st two groups but who now have had enough of the dis-info that over the last yrs has become ''out and out Lies'' we are tired of it.

I was waiting like most of us in this group for someone to do what Galeeshea has done , with bringing forth the material from Raheem that has put up the info or truths for some of us, that we have been led like a carrot in front of the donkey. We have been told lies to many times of ''events'' that were to happen and never did. The last big let-down was the ''Disclosure''to happen on Aug.4th. that again didn't happen.Then they laid blame on us for it not happening and then threatened those who would speak out about them. Then they move on to the next project or lie,which is a crystal flood wall to be started by Sunday. So far this one too, is another false flag. So when we look at the bigger picture what we see is the 3 main camps, there is also a 4th camp that is quiet and invisible, and that is the ones who are also feed up with being lied to and therefore have stopped following those blogs on this site or maybe the whole site itself. I was one of these in this camp in 2010 and left the site for 6 to 9 mo;s but I was told by my guides to come back and help restore the ''Event''.So I have been in each one of these 4-camps and I now remain in the 3rd.

And to summarize what we have here and what some os may want to do is this. Some of us got on this train al most when it began and now it looks as though its going over the cliff so we want off, or you could say its a ship that some of us realize is sinking, we have told the captain and the rest of the crew , who prefer to go down with the ship. My favorite is we are on a star ship that has been damaged and the Captain has been compromised and is no longer fit to polit the ship and the ship itself is headed to collide with a nova star. So we have releaved the captain and his followers and have broken away by separating the star ship and we have taken leave away from the nova star. Our prime directive, our mission is to find and secure our''Freedom'' from our dreaded enemy the DC. It is they who has put our ship off course in the first place with false navigational directions. We the remaining crew, has chosen to return to our org. course given to us by the org. Federation and the spirit realm. We are to return to those plans.

Of course we need new leaders and a new alai. And or we need to find the real GFL and then ask them why they deserted us, why the didn't come to our rescue , why they let the false GFL and the DC to be able to fool us for so long. We will allow the other groups to proceed as there beliefs dictate to them and we ask them to allow us to do our thing as well ,without attact or discrimination. The way I see it now is that we are way behind because of following the wrong leaders. The Mass Arrest haven't happened, We are still being sprayed with Chem-trail poison and HAARP. The wars are still going on. The Economy is still collapsing and the Earth Changes or birth pains are getting stronger each day. And most importantly is the DC is not with drawing but seem to be getting stronger each day or at least they are holding there ground waiting also for the ''Big 'event''.

We light workers and warriors have ben split apart into many camps or factions. Our Mission is to over come the DC Illuminati, put them in jail while they wait for there trails to begin. Then to really truly regain our Freedom we need new Money, new governments and a new spirituality. So what do you think folks are you ready to complete our Mission or not. Standard Chartered, New York regulator reach $340 million settlement

Standard Chartered will pay a civil penalty of $340 million to the NY State Department of Financial Services, reports CNBC's Kayla Tausche. CNBC's John Carney and Bob Pisani, provide perspective.

(Updated 7:51 p.m. Eastern) NEW YORK -- Standard Chartered Plc will pay $340 million to New York's bank regulator over transactions linked to Iran, in a speedily arranged deal likely to cheer its shareholders.

The deal with New York Superintendent of Financial Services Benjamin Lawsky still left the British bank facing a separate probe of Iran-linked transactions by other U.S. authorities.

The deal on Tuesday capped a week of transatlantic tension and a furor over why a state agency had upstaged the other authorities.

The resolution also averted a hearing on Wednesday at which the bank had been called to demonstrate why its license to do business in New York should not be revoked.

Ian Gordon, an analyst at Investec Securities in London, said that the risk of further regulatory costs "appear sufficiently contained" to allow the bank's shares to build on a rally from their lows after Lawsky brought his case last week.

"Standard Chartered's management team have conducted themselves admirably in the face of extreme provocation," Gordon said.

The bank's shares rose 2.74 percent to close at 1,370 pence on Tuesday, before Lawsky's announcement.

Lawsky on August 6 called Standard Chartered a "rogue institution" that had broken U.S. sanctionson Iran, saying it hid Iran-linked transactions with a total value of $250 billion from regulators.

Lawsky's order came like a bolt from the blue, the bank said, hitting its share price and bringing top executives hurrying back to London from vacation. Bank of England Governor Mervyn King said that Lawsky was out of step with other U.S. authorities. And Standard Chartered Chief Executive Peter Sands strongly denied the allegations, saying illegal transactions totaled less than $14 million.

In his announcement on Tuesday, Lawsky said the bank had "agreed that the conduct at issue involved transactions of at least $250 billion." But he gave no details on what protections the deal gave Standard Chartered. (http://link.reuters.com/faq99s)

Standard Chartered confirmed that the two sides had reached an agreement, including the payment of $340 million, and said detailed terms would be concluded soon.

"It was a pragmatic decision in the best interest of shareholders and customers," a spokesman for the bank said.

In addition to the civil penalty, Lawsky said the bank agreed to an outside monitor for at least two years to check on controls on money-laundering at its New York branch.

Lawsky's aggressive stance heightened his public profile just months after the Department of Financial Services, the agency he heads, was created out of the state's banking and insurance regulators.

Within minutes of the announcement, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo lauded the "effectiveness and leadership" of the new agency.

"New York needed a tough and fair regulator for the banking and insurance industries to protect consumers and investors," Cuomo said.

But Lawsky has also drawn fire by jumping ahead of a two-year probe into Standard Chartered by the U.S. Treasury, the Federal Reserve, the Justice Department, and New York prosecutors.

"It's very unfortunate this wasn't done as a global state and federal settlement," said Ed Wilson, a former senior attorney at the U.S. Treasury Department.

As negotiations with Lawsky progressed last week and this week, the bank held separate talks with other authorities. It had hoped to land a deal on both fronts, but Lawsky's solo announcement Tuesday made clear that had not happened.

Underscoring a continuing divide with Lawsky, the other authorities issued short statements saying they would continue to work together.

"Treasury will continue working with our state and federal partners to hold Standard Chartered accountable for any sanctionable activity that may have occurred," the Treasury Department said.

The U.S. Federal Reserve said it "continues to work with the other agencies on a comprehensive resolution."

The Justice Department defended its record in fighting money laundering and said it was working with its regulatory and other partners "to determine what actions might be appropriate in this matter."

The Manhattan district attorney's office also said it would continue to work with its partners on sanctions violations.

Jimmy Gurule, a former undersecretary for enforcement at the Treasury Department who is now a law professor at Notre Dame, said Lawsky may have acted out of frustration that federal regulators were moving too slowly.

"I think, in part, there was probably some exasperation, some frustration on the part of the New York state regulators of federal regulators," Gurule said.

In the end, Lawsky's office won a settlement that was on par with fines paid by a handful of other banks that had improperly done business with sanctioned states such as Iran and Cuba. In 2010, Barclays Plc paid $298 million to settle a joint probe with federal and New York authorities.

Lloyds Banking Group and Credit Suisse Group have previously agreed to pay settlements of $350 million and $536 million, respectively. ING Bank NV paid a settlement of $619 million. HSBC HoldingsPlc currently is under investigation by U.S. law enforcement, according to bank regulatory filings.

Fasten Your Seat Belts

Now that I have given you the most critical details of the days after the ascension, my colleagues and I want to describe what can occur once the beacons of light that ascend are no longer available to anchor that light on your planet. Instead, those not ascending must awaken in consciousness quickly or chaos will follow. Awakening contributes to balancing that crazy kind of negativity that often appears when no clear answers are available. Suddenly, many anchors of light will no longer give them any direct awareness or new cautions to live by. Only an aware being can stay content in the midst of chaos, and they aid the others.

So when many of today's anchors are no longer around, men and women will act differently than when they were able to make their way to the light in the aura of others. Many got close to ready for ascension and then the control mentality gave them a distraction. Self-awareness was not yet complete, and desire for material world objects distracted them. Want to ascend? Give up all desire for worldly niceties. Instead, look inside yourself for gratification. Can you work and do things that are normally done? Of course, just don't make goals that you can't live without. Instead, go for your dreams without caring whether you complete them or not.

Self love and desire are opposite concepts. Love of oneself means caring and giving all that one needs for happiness. Desire means your happiness depends on acquiring, not on being. One's physical needs are few: food, water and shelter. Making yourself agreeable to local conditions is the difference between a need and a want. You can want more and get it by being open, without caring whether you get it or not. Not needing it makes you grateful for what comes, and you do not become disturbed when what you would like to have does not appear.

When disasters hit most of your material things can disappear. To be attached to them more than the fact that you were not harmed cancels your ability to thrive again. Get out of desire and change the "needy" quality of your attitude, then grace will take care of those things you truly need.

Portals are about to open and I don't want your goals or your current life attachments to keep you from walking through them. First and foremost, give yourself permission to leave. Ample time has passed to help you get complete with your life.

Many of my chelas will not ascend. They have not been able to accept the concept or my direct contact to inspire them. Self control is not their best quality, so they do not meditate. In this condition ascension will not occur for them. So what my messages contain about the future is for these chelas. Can they do enough now to still ascend with this next wave? No, they don't have time, so making the next ascension wave is not possible. Instead, my hope for them is that they awaken as a result of their awareness of ascension and they are able to get on with their lives in a more awake condition. Their next ascension gateway will be the moment of death.

Pure awareness is needed. Pure clarity that their inner voice can provide. We are only able to communicate to clear channels. Are you one of them? If not, you can still become one. Practice this daily to prepare yourself to live without my contact through others.

Fasten your seat belts, because things are going to get crazy very quickly. The "next days" are not far away. Instead of asking me about them, ask yourself, can I be ready for chaos? Only when you are centered and clear inside. Otherwise you are going to be at affect of what is about to occur. Center yourself daily with meditation. Conscious breathing will center you momentarily if you put your attention on the air going in and out of the body. Ceremonial breathing is not what I'm talking about. You can count the breaths, just don't try to control them.

When you are getting near the ascension call you will be tired and not able to sleep. It means you are consciously in more than one dimension. Are you having this experience? If so, ascension is near.

As Britain loses faith in its banks and feels shock-waves from the euro crisis, one city is trying to keep local wealth in local pockets with the launch of its own currency.

The Bristol pound – usable only with member businesses in the city in southwest England – is to launch in September, and organisers are deluged with local firms wanting to sign up.

“The perception of banking and money is that it’s a very ruthless system: people are out for what they can get,” co-founder Ciaran Mundy told AFP.

“This is about saying yes to something new. It’s tapping into a different set of values about money.”

The scheme has “captured people’s imaginations”, he added, in a recession-hit year when British banks have been beset by scandals and ministers talked openly of a possible euro collapse.

Hundreds of businesses have joined, from the acclaimed Arnolfini arts centre to the Chandos deli chain, and the launch had to be postponed from May to September 19 because of the level of interest.

Security professional Richard Wright signed up his company Wright Guard as soon as he heard about the Bristol pound, hoping it would help him fight back against encroaching security giants.

“I’m Bristol born and bred, and I always want to support local businesses,” he told AFP. “I’ll want to keep the Bristol pound flowing.”

The notes feature symbols of local pride, from 19th century religious writer Hannah More to the Concorde aircraft, partly developed in Bristol, and images of the St Paul’s Carnival Caribbean street festival.

Evoking a long history of dissent, one side of the £5 note shows a tiger writing on a wall in graffiti: “O Liberty!”

Other British towns have launched local currencies, but Bristol, home to half a million people, is the first big city, and its scheme is ambitious.

Businesses can pay local taxes in Bristol pounds and the council has offered its 17,000 staff the option of receiving part of their pay in the currency.

Mundy’s team – funded initially by grants – have designed an electronic system for payments by text message, plus what they say are forgery-proof notes.

Stores selling products from cider to skate shoes said they were considering joining the scheme, which Mundy believes will have a tangible economic effect.

“Eighty percent of the money leaves the area if it is spent with a multinational – but 80pc stays if it is spent at a local trader,” he said.

Such localism might seem strange in a city that grew to prosperity as an international port and is now a centre for aircraft manufacture.

But Bristol is also a left-wing haven with an activist tradition. The People’s Republic of Stokes Croft, an urban renewal group, made headlines last year with a campaign that became a riot in protest at the opening of a Tesco supermarket.

They have greeted the Bristol pound warmly.

“We need to run things from the bottom up and from the grassroots, so that people have control over how things happen where they live,” said spokesman Chris Chalkley.

But Louisa Jones and Joh Rindom, co-owners of Stokes Croft vintage clothing store Shop Dutty, thought the scheme would just add to their administrative burden.

“We’re sceptical that having a micro economy within a macro economy is a bit backward,” Rindom said.

Ben Yearsley, investment manager at Bristol-based financial services firm Hargreaves Lansdown, also won’t be rushing to convert his sterling.

“It’s just a big gift voucher scheme… I’m skeptical that it’s going to make any difference,” he told AFP.

“Local businesses need to compete on quality and service.”

The Bristol pound will not be legal tender and must be exchanged through the Bristol Credit Union, with a 3pc charge for conversion back to sterling.

This and charges on electronic transactions will pay its running costs.

Despite the naysayers, Mundy hopes hundreds of thousands of Bristol pounds will be traded in its first year, increasing to “double figures of millions” by the third.

His model is the Chiemgauer, a German complementary currency of which millions of euros’ worth is traded yearly.

Online database complementarycurrency.org lists more than 225 such minority currencies worldwide, of which 102 are in Europe.

They have won a high-profile advocate in Bernard Lietaer, a Belgian economist who helped design and implement the convergence mechanism for the euro.

“We will never have a stable, sustainable monetary system with a single monopoly of a single type of currency, whoever manages it,” he said in a lecture in Brussels.

“Everybody can do something at their own scale… sustainability requires diversity,” he added.

Mundy said that the ultimate test of his system would be the market.

“If people freely decide to market and trade with each other [in the currency], they should be able to do it,” he said.

“If we’re not doing a good job they won’t use the system. Consumers will decide.”

Hepatitis C, which is transmitted through the blood, kills more than 15,000 Americans each year, mostly from illnesses such as cirrhosis and liver cancer, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"Everyone age 47 to 67 who hasn't already been tested for hepatitis C must be tested at once," Dr. Thomas Frieden, the CDC's director, said on a telephone press briefing. "The sooner you know the more you can protect your liver and your life."

The new guidelines are based on studies showing that many baby boomers were infected decades ago, before routine screening of donated blood and organs, or awareness of the risk from sharing intravenous needles.

The agency had previously recommended testing only for people with certain known risk factors for the infection. It estimates that around 3.2 million Americans are chronically infected with hepatitis C.

"Hepatitis C is particularly dangerous because it is a silent killer. It can live for decades in a person's body, slowly destroying the liver, while causing few symptoms," said Dr. John Ward, director of the CDC's division of viral hepatitis.

The new guidelines are expected to identify more than 800,000 infections, prevent 100,000 cases of cirrhosis, prevent more than 50,000 cases of liver cancer, and save more than 120,000 lives. Hepatitis C is the leading cause of liver transplants in the United States.

The relatively inexpensive blood test is "a small investment now for a big benefit later," Ward said.

The CDC believes routine blood tests will address the largely preventable consequences of the disease, especially in light of newly available therapies that can cure around 75 percent of infections.

The field has attracted broad interest with two new hepatitis C drugs, Incivek from Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc and Merck & Co's Victrelis, (deadly drugs) reaching the U.S. market in the past year.

Companies including Gilead Sciences Inc aim to improve on those medicines with pill-only regimens. One such program at Bristol-Myers Squibb suffered a setback earlier this month when a key trial was stopped after a patient developed heart failure.

U.S. regulators on Thursday put a hold on testing of an experimental hepatitis C drug being developed by Idenix Pharmaceuticals Inc, citing safety concerns.

Wake up Call: Horus, August 15, 12

There is something taking place within the earth these days that is warranting our steadfast attention. It is the seismic activity that is taking place not only on the surface, but in the lower levels as well. It is not as severe for us as it is on the surface, for within the earth’s crust it is so much more relevant to our structure that is according to our history and the levels of attention that has been given it.

What this says is that within the earth’s crust lies the belts of the surface interactions. These belts are being opened and stretched in ways now, that have not been experienced for a great number of years. Since the beginning of what you call the stone age it has been rather calm and true to itself.

Now with the magnetic shifting of the poles there is a great deal of activity that is putting in place the new shapes and belts of the coming times. We are interacting with these changes in a way that relates to Gaia what it is that we are in need of and that is in harmony with her as well. It is a matter of being able to communicate on a level that is in harmony with each other.

As these changes take place, so too will you on the surface be experiencing the changes. You have been feeling them so far mostly in your DNA. Some of the changes have been evident on the surface, and some of them are being relayed through the technology that you have that measures what is taking place within the waters of the planet, and in the crusts. It is a matter of now realizing that you too can have that communication with Gaia and help to bring into your reality the harmony that will benefit you and Gaia at the same time.

It is as this one told you about in a former message about when she was a native on the land where she now lives and knew Gaia as Mamousa. That was the name for this feminine energy of this planet in that ancient tongue. Her message was an example of how, even then there was complete harmony between the natives and the land they called Mamousa. Most of you were also able to once communicate with the land as so many did then, and are now being able to do increasingly.

As we stand in our places and feed the love that is prevalent throughout the planet and the universe, we add to the total and instant communication between all of existence. We do so with the complete knowledge of each other and what we intend for our harmonic convergence that is upon us. As this shift happens and we become more in line with who we are and what we mean to each other, we will take the time to savor and integrate our oneness. In that way we will be able to experience the changes that are taking place, and will continue to for a short period. They are necessary to bring earth back in alignment with herself and with the rest of this system of the galaxy. In that way we will then be in the harmonious alignment for the new position that we are on the way to assuming in the universe. It is a matter of being in our original place of being when the time comes for the transition of this universe into the perfection that is its destiny.

All of us within earth are at this time readying ourselves for what is to come. We are seeing that many of the changes are affecting us, and that because we are able to be in harmony with Gaia, Mamousa, we are able to withstand the adjustments and incorporate them with our own adjustments, and yours on the surface. We are seeing that in this period there are many upheavals that are to be considered merely more like a series of burps and hiccups, rather than what they once were considered to be, of much more severity.

As I speak this to Nancy and all of you I do so with the utmost love and integrity that I am feeling from all of you. I see that there is a great deal of growth that is taking place with all of you. I realize that it is something that you appreciate when we let you know that we recognize in you the degree of upliftment you have achieved and continue to attain. It is a matter of you being able to tune in to your own inner knowledge of what to do, and how to approach the times as the changes come to be.

We all appreciate what you are doing to steadfastly keep your cool and to know that you have the ability to tune in and then act in a way that is in harmony with what is taking place. Those of us in Inner and Hollow Earth are in the middle of the changes and as we see what needs to be done it is a matter of relaying to you the ability that you too have in being able to live the moment and tune into your own inner guidance. We are behind you all the way and we are learning from you what it is that we can relay to you in these times. It is a matter of us remembering what it is that we have experienced before you all went into the state of forgetfulness and what you mean to us now, as well as what you meant to us then. We are all family, and our reunion will be unlike any ever before. Love and honor prevail for all time.

Seven banks, including HSBC and Royal Bank of Scotland, are to be questioned in the US for alleged manipulation of the Libor inter-bank lending rate.

The other banks receiving subpoenas by the New York attorney general are Barclays, Citigroup, Deutsche Bank, JPMorgan and UBS.

Last month, Barclays was fined £290m by UK and US regulators for rigging Libor. ( A slap on the wrist and a slice of the pie)

Some of the world's biggest banks have been embroiled in a number of scandals in recent months.

Following the Barclays fine, US regulators said they were investigating a number of other banks for potential Libor rigging.

A government-ordered review into Libor is currently being conducted by the managing director of the Financial Services Authority, Martin Wheatley.

The Wheatley review is examining how the Libor rate, the benchmark interest rate for trillions of financial contracts including some mortgages, is calculated and regulated.

The current Libor system is no longer a "viable option", Mr Wheatley said.

Libor is calculated using rates submitted by a group of leading banks who estimate how much it costs them to borrow in 10 currencies and 15 lengths of loans, ranging from overnight to 12 months.

There have been a series of allegations over the trading policies of banks in recent months.

Bank woes

On Tuesday, Standard Chartered agreed to pay $340m (£217m) to New York regulators to settle claims that it hid transactions worth $250bn with Iran. (Small fine for large transaction)

Standard Chartered shares rallied on Wednesday after it agreed to settle the claims, after the institution had been threatened with having its US banking licence revoked.

Last week, New York's DFS alleged that the US unit of the bank had illegally hidden 60,000 transactions with Iran worth $250bn over nearly a decade.

It accused the London-based bank of being a "rogue institution" for breaking US sanctions against Iran.

HSBC has also been accused of failing to prevent money laundering by the US Senate.

According to the Senate report, the US unit of HSBC carried out 28,000 undisclosed sensitive transactions between 2001 and 2007, an internal audit commissioned by the bank found. The vast majority of those transactions - worth $19.7bn - involved Iran.

As for Barclays, the Libor scandal led to the resignation of chief executive Bob Diamond as well as chairman Marcus Agius.

Last week, Sir David Walker was appointed as the new chairman.

He said he wants to review the way the bank operates and will begin his search for a new chief executive "within days".

Sir David is a senior banker who led the 2009 government inquiry into the rules governing how banks are run.

RBS has already admitted it is being investigated for fixing Libor.

It said: "RBS Group continues to receive requests from various regulators investigating the setting of libor and other interest rates.

"We are cooperating with the investigations and are keeping relevant regulators informed,( and paid off?)"

Mormon church earns $7 billion a year from tithing, analysis indicates

SAN FRANCISCO -- If the Mormon church were a business, wealthy adherents like Mitt Romney would count as its dominant revenue stream.

Its investment strategy would be viewed as risk-averse.

It would also likely attract corporate gadflies protesting a lack of transparency. They would call for less spending on real estate and more on charitable causes to improve membership growth -- the Mormons' return on investment.

Those are a few of the conclusions that can be drawn from an analysis of the church's finances by Reuters and University of Tampa sociologist Ryan Cragun.

Relying heavily on church records in countries that require far more disclosure than the United States, Cragun and Reuters estimate that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints brings in some $7 billion annually in tithes and other donations.

It owns about $35 billion worth of temples and meeting houses around the world, and controls farms, ranches, shopping malls and other commercial ventures worth many billions more.

The church claims 14 million members around the world, more than half outside the United States. All are supposed to tithe, or give 10 percent, of their income, which Mormons frequently interpret as pre-tax earnings. But only about 40 percent of Mormons counted by the church actually attend weekly services in the United States and Canada, and in many countries, including Mexico and Brazil, only a quarter of nominal members are active, according to Cumorah, an independent research group headed by a devoted, active Mormon.

These active members are most likely to tithe, and the result is that from a financial standpoint at least, the church remains largely a venture of active American members, said Cragun, who adds that U.S. Mormon men tend to be wealthier than the average U.S. male.

"Most of the revenue of the religion is from the U.S., and a large percentage comes from an elite cadre of wealthy donors, like Mitt Romney," said Cragun. "(It) is a religion that appeals to economically successful men by rewarding their financial acuity with respect and positions of prestige within the religion."

The church is full of successful businessmen, including chemical billionaire Jon Huntsman Sr., the father of the former presidential candidate, J.W. "Bill" Marriott Jr. and his hotel-owning family, and even entertainer Donny Osmond.

Romney, the Republican presidential candidate, gave $4.1 million to the church over the past two years (amounting to 9.7 percent of his gross adjusted income, according to the two years' worth of tax returns he has released). He would tithe on his IRA, valued at as much as $102 million, only when he withdraws from it and pays taxes.

Crunching the numbers
Several countries around the world require religious groups and charities to file financial reports, including Canada. The country has only 185,000 Mormon members but a wealth of statistics on them. Taking total reported Canadian donations and dividing by the estimated number of active Mormons and family financial data from the World Bank indicates that active Canadian Mormons give slightly less than 8 percent of their income to the church.

Assuming that active U.S. Mormons give at a similar rate and adjusting for higher U.S. income, total U.S. tithing would amount to more than $6 billion, or about $6.5 billion annually between the United States and Canada.

Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, which also require financial disclosures, all have sharply lower donation rates than Canada. Based on data from those countries, tithing outside the United States and Canada totals several hundred million dollars, taking global total donations to about $7 billion.

Canada also requires the church to disclose the value of its assets and spending. Using those figures as a basis suggests the total value of church buildings, including temples and meeting houses, would be about $35 billion globally.

Church spokesman Michael Purdy declined to comment specifically on the estimates but said that the church was different from a corporation.

"Other projections are speculative and do not reflect an understanding of how the church uses its income to bless the lives of people," he added, saying the church was financed primarily from member tithing and offerings.

Focus on business and buildings
Concerned or disgruntled current and former Mormons complain that the church spends too much on real estate and for-profit ventures, neglecting charity work.

The Mormon church has no hospitals and only a handful of primary schools. Its university system is limited to widely respected Brigham Young, which has campuses in Utah, Idaho and Hawaii, and LDS Business College. Seminaries and institutes for high school students and single adults offer religious studies for hundreds of thousands.

It counts more than 55,000 in its missionary forces, primarily youths focused on converting new members but also seniors who volunteer for its nonprofits, such as the Polynesian Cultural Center, which bills itself as Hawaii's No. 1 tourist attraction, and for-profit businesses owned by the church.

The church has plowed resources into a multi-billion-dollar global network of for-profit enterprises: it is the largest rancher in the United States, a church official told Nebraska's Lincoln Journal Star in 2004, with other ranches and farms in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Australia and Great Britain, according to financial documents reviewed by Reuters.

Ranching and farm industry sources say they are well-run operations.

It also has a small media empire, an investment fund, and is developing a mall across from its Salt Lake City headquarters, which it calls an attempt to help revitalize the city rather than to make money. These enterprises are also part of a vast nest egg for tough times. The church expects wars and natural disasters before Christ returns to Earth in the Second Coming, and members are encouraged to prepare by laying in stores of food. Farms and ranches are part of the church's own preparation.

"The church teaches its members to live within their means and put a little money aside for life's unexpected events. As a church, we live by the same principle," Purdy said. The rainy-day fund and operating budget rarely mix, officials say.

Cost-cutting is a top priority, church documents show. It has even laid off janitors and called on members to clean temples and meeting houses, but the buildout of temples continues, including one under construction in Rome.

Those temples take a lot of money to operate, Purdy points out, and many of the grand church buildings are short on congregants, says David Stewart, a physician who leads the research group Cumorah.

"I have been to beautiful church buildings in Hungary and Ukraine, and Latvia and other places, and there are these huge buildings and 35 people there, and you say, how can this work financially? The math - it just doesn't work."

In contrast, the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which had about 17 million members a year ago, appears to be getting a better return on investment: It builds smaller meeting houses and lots of schools and hospitals, and its numbers are swelling faster than the Mormons', said Stewart. The Adventists claim a million new members join annually, compared with every three years or so for the Mormons.

"The Seventh-day Adventists clearly have a much more expansive humanitarian project in terms of building hospitals and medical schools and schools and universities and long-term developmental infrastructure around the world," said Stewart. "It's paid off for them."

The Mormon church, meanwhile, appears to be decreasing transparency and member control of donations. New tithing slips give fewer donation options and come with an expanded disclaimer saying the church has sole discretion over spending, even though it will make "reasonable efforts" to follow donors' wishes.

"Hey, where's the slot of 'shopping malls'?" a poster said of the new slips on exmormonforums.com, one of several dissident sites.

Many faithful have no such issues. On chat boards and in private conversations, they emphasize that volunteering for the church and giving to it are worthy deeds in and of themselves.

"The funds are used to build and maintain temples and meeting houses, as well as take care of the many expenses associated with helping the work of the Gospel of Jesus Christ roll forth. I love to pay tithing," Carl Ames said on one church site.

Purdy did offer a list of spending priorities: building houses of worship, supporting Brigham Young University and a seminary system, operating nearly 140 temples and the world's largest genealogy research program, and humanitarian aid for both members and non-members.

Since 1985 the church has spent a total of $1.4 billion on relief for disasters such as Japan's earthquake and Ethiopian famine, and it operates 129 "bishops' storehouses" with food and household items for the needy.

Romney himself focuses on the act of giving, not the result. As he told Fox News Sunday, "Hopefully, as people look at various individuals running for president, they'd be pleased with someone who made a promise to God and kept that promise."
