Quonset Homes Start At $8,000: Would YOU live in one?

Many people are interested in DIY as it helps to bring down the costs of a project and now that same philosophy may be used in regards to building a new home.

In the past there have been tiny home kits for sale, however, this time around there is Quonset homes and they are on a much larger and grander scale in kit form. The Quonset homes are becoming very popular among fans of DIY as they are fast to erect, they are solid and said to be long lasting. The buildings had been originally developed as an answer to weather conditions that were extreme and they have been made available in two different styles, both of which are suited for residential homes.

Two models are available, P and S; both are suited for residential properties as both have sides that are straight, which give the maximum living space possible. Both may be tailored to the aesthetic requirements of the buyer with end walls that are custom.

Homes May Be Tailored To The Individual

The home building packs are constructed from steel, board, stucco or brick. They can also be insulated and in buildings that are over 30 feet in width, a mezzanine type second floor may be added into the property. The walls at the end may be fitted with windows, while the roof may have the addition of skylight panels fitted to allow in natural light.

The Quonset homes are easy to set up and they are relatively inexpensive. There is a model 20 x 40 which comes with a 10-foot ceiling and the estimate comes in at around $8,000.

The P model of the Quonset homes kits is one of the most commonly used as a workshop or garage. It offers a pitched roof and straight walls that offer up a look that is more traditional for a home when compared to the more cylindrical Q model.

The S model comes with a domed roof along with sidewalls that are straight and this is said to be a design that is stronger than the P model and this has been a choice by people wanting a property for a workshop in regions that suffer from heavy wind or snow, people have also chosen it to use as a barn.

Quonset Homes Do Not Need A Slab Foundation

The Quonset Hut homes offer plenty of benefits as they may be installed on any existing foundations by using bolts and they may be erected on wooden or concrete side walls. They may be installed without the need to pour a slab foundation.

The homes have no interior structural supports and this allows for the owner to get the maximum usable living space without a floor plan that is obstructed with beams or poles. The buildings are said to be able to withstand fire and they are even able to contain a blaze on the interior. They can be fitted with insulation, air conditioning, ventilation, and electricity to make affordable homes.
