I love the UB. For those of you still reticent about it, try it on anyway, as it will grow on you. This final section 4 of the book, about the Life of Jesus has a lot of good reading in it, and you can read it independently of the rest of the book. I bolded a few lines.PAPER 170: Section 4.Jesus' Teaching About The Kingdom________________________________________P1862:9, 170:4.1 Jesus never gave a precise definition of thekingdom. At one time he would discourse on one phase of the kingdom,and at another time he would discuss a different aspect of thebrotherhood of God's reign in the hearts of men. In the course ofthis Sabbath afternoon's sermon Jesus noted no less than five phases,or epochs, of the kingdom, and they were:1. The personal and inward experience of the spiritual life ofthe fellowship of the individual believer with God the Father.2. The enlarging brotherhood of gospel believers, the socialaspects of the enhanced morals and quickened ethics resulting fromthe reign of God's spirit in the hearts of individual believers.3. The supermortal brotherhood of invisible spiritual beingswhich prevails on earth and in heaven, the superhuman kingdom of God.4. The prospect of the more perfect fulfillment of the will ofGod, the advance toward the dawn of a new social order in connectionwith improved spiritual living -- the next age of man.5. The kingdom in its fullness, the future spiritual age oflight and life on earth.P1863:5, 170:4.2 Wherefore must we always examine the Master'steaching to ascertain which of these five phases he may havereference to when he makes use of the term kingdom of heaven. By thisprocess of gradually changing man's will and thus affecting humandecisions, Michael and his associates are likewise gradually butcertainly changing the entire course of human evolution, social andotherwise.P1863:6, 170:4.3 The Master on this occasion placed emphasis on thefollowing five points as representing the cardinal features of thegospel of the kingdom:1. The pre-eminence of the individual.2. The will as the determining factor in man's experience.3. Spiritual fellowship with God the Father.4. The supreme satisfactions of the loving service of man.5. The transcendency of the spiritual over the material in humanpersonality.P1863:12, 170:4.4 This world has never seriously or sincerely orhonestly tried out these dynamic ideas and divine ideals of Jesus'doctrine of the kingdom of heaven. But you should not becomediscouraged by the apparently slow progress of the kingdom idea onUrantia. Remember that the order of progressive evolution issubjected to sudden and unexpected periodical changes in both thematerial and the spiritual worlds. The bestowal of Jesus as anincarnated Son was just such a strange and unexpected event in thespiritual life of the world. Neither make the fatal mistake, inlooking for the age manifestation of the kingdom, of failing toeffect its establishment within your own souls.P1863:13, 170:4.5 Although Jesus referred one phase of the kingdom tothe future and did, on numerous occasions, intimate that such anevent might appear as a part of a world crisis; and though he didlikewise most certainly, on several occasions, definitely promisesometime to return to Urantia, it should be recorded that he neverpositively linked these two ideas together. He promised a newrevelation of the kingdom on earth and at some future time; he alsopromised sometime to come back to this world in person; but he didnot say that these two events were synonymous. From all we know thesepromises may, or may not, refer to the same event. (Candace: of interest, "Jesus" returned one year prior to the publishing of the UB in 1955.)P1863:14, 170:4.6 His apostles and disciples most certainly linkedthese two teachings together. When the kingdom failed to materializeas they had expected, recalling the Master's teaching concerning afuture kingdom and remembering his promise to come again, they jumpedto the conclusion that these promises referred to an identical event;and therefore they lived in hope of his immediate second coming toestablish the kingdom in its fullness and with power and glory. Andso have successive believing generations lived on earth entertainingthe same inspiring but disappointing hope.Candace: I think much of that lost hope was around the falsified teachings of the Catholic Church, as I was clearly stated by "Jesus" back then he could well return in 2000 years, which was the time when the planet would be in the photon belt again.But we are NOW in that time. I had written up quite a bit and then I found myself logged off the server when I completed the post and can't get the thoughts back. Interference. I will attempt after I get over my tears to reconstruct it, perhaps later today and replace it here. I should I suppose remember to write my stuff offline, but when I started this, I was planning on saying much, just putting it up. The words flowed, the time was right so I go with the flow. If I take time to open a word document to write in, the flow stops.
