Look past the details of a wonky discovery by a group of California scientists -- that a quantum state is now observable with the human eye -- and consider its implications: Time travel may be feasible. Doc Brown would be proud.
The strange discovery by quantum physicists at the University of California Santa Barbara means that an object you can see in front of you may exist simultaneously in a parallel universe -- a multi-state condition that has scientists theorizing that traveling through time may be much more than just the plaything of science fiction writers.
And it's all because of a tiny bit of metal -- a "paddle" about the width of a human hair, an item that is incredibly small but still something you can see with the naked eye.
UC Santa Barbara's Andrew Cleland cooled that paddle in a refrigerator, dimmed the lights and, under a special bell jar, sucked out all the air to eliminate vibrations. He then plucked it like a tuning fork and noted that it moved and stood still at the same time.
That sounds contradictory, and it's nearly impossible to understand if your last name isn't Einstein. But it actually happened. It's a freaky fact that's at the heart of quantum mechanics.
How Is That Possible?
To even try to understand it, you have to think really, really small. Smaller than an atom. Electrons, which circle the nucleus of an atom, are swirling around in multiple states at the same time -- they're hard to pin down. It's only when we measure the position of an electron that we force it to have a specific location. Cleland's breakthrough lies in taking that hard-to-grasp yet true fact about the atomic particle and applying it to something visible with the naked eye.
What does it all mean? Let's say you're in Oklahoma visiting your aunt. But in another universe, where your atomic particles just can't keep up, you're actually at home watching "The Simpsons." That may sound far-fetched, but it's based on real science.
"When you observe something in one state, one theory is it split the universe into two parts," Cleland told FoxNews.com, trying to explain how there can be multiple universes and we can see only one of them.
The multi-verse theory says the entire universe "freezes" during observation, and we see only one reality. You see a soccer ball flying through the air, but maybe in a second universe the ball has dropped already. Or you were looking the other way. Or they don't even play soccer over there.
Sean Carroll, a physicist at the California Institute of Technology and a popular author, accepts the scientific basis for the multi-verse -- even if it cannot be proven.
"Unless you can imagine some super-advanced alien civilization that has figured this out, we aren't affected by the possible existence of other universes," Carroll said. But he does think "someone could devise a machine that lets one universe communicate with another."
It all comes down to how we understand time.
Carroll suggests that we don't exactly feel time -- we perceive its passing. For example, time moves fast on a rollercoaster and very slowly during a dull college lecture. It races when you're late for work . . . but the last few minutes before quitting time seem like hours.
Back to the Future
"Time seems to be a one-way street that runs from the past to the present," says Fred Alan Wolf, a.k.a. Dr. Quantum, a physicist and author. "But take into consideration theories that look at the level of quantum fields ... particles that travel both forward and backward in time. If we leave out the forward-and-backwards-in-time part, we miss out on some of the physics."
Wolf says that time -- at least in quantum mechanics -- doesn't move straight like an arrow. It zig-zags, and he thinks it may be possible to build a machine that lets you bend time.
Consider Sergei Krikalev, the Russian astronaut who flew six space missions. Richard Gott, a physicist at Princeton University, says Krikalev aged 1/48th of a second less than the rest of us because he orbited at very high speeds. And to age less than someone means you've jumped into the future -- you did not experience the same present. In a sense, he says, Krikalev time-traveled to the future -- and back again!
"Newton said all time is universal and all clocks tick the same way," Gott says. "Now with Einstein's theory of Special Relativity we know that travel into the future is possible. With Einstein's theory of gravity, the laws of physics as we understand them today suggest that even time travel to the past is possible in principle. But to see whether time travel to the past can actually be realized we may have to learn new laws of physics that step in at the quantum level."
And for that, you start with a very tiny paddle in a bell jar.
Cleland has proved that quantum mechanics scale to slightly larger sizes. The next challenge is to learn how to control quantum mechanics and use it for even larger objects. Do so -- and we might be able to warp to parallel universes just by manipulating a few electrons.
"Our concepts of cause and effect will fly out the window," says Ben Bova, the science fiction author. "People will -- for various reasons -- try to fix the past or escape into the future. But we may never notice these effects, if the universe actually diverges. Maybe somebody already has invented a time machine and our history is being constantly altered, but we don’t notice the kinks in our path through time."

Matter is energy. Physical, mental, and spiritual are connected as one fiber of a whole being. The perception of the race is that the last stretch is over water and the rabbit cannot swim, but the turtle can. It is stated that not everyone is created the same and that due to the activities of a said individual those advantages become genetic due to physical, mental, and spiritual action. Due to the fact that all matter is constantly in motion it states that we are pure energy and can manifest ourselves to become so.
I see it as: there is no way to measure all matter(or is there) and its speed-either side of the elected snap shot...and/or no way th measure depth perception at exact snap shot time......along with other variables/angle of observation......interesting indeed....the hare and the turtle
one dimension + one dimension = three dimensions
By stacking one matter on top of the other we give the object depth and thus a third dimension
It is simple and complex, just like the equation of a cube within a cube to explain space
The thing is that the dimension exists and doesn't exist, lets just say it is a bit complicated.
I'm seeing more and more of this in the mainstream...it's a good sign...you would think stuff like this would be big time stories in the news anyways...lol
Firstly this thread needs a little bit more love and little less “I’m not listening” or “this proves nothing”. We’re here to share information, we discern what is and what isn’t, what makes sense, what doesn’t, or if it even matters if it has to make sense. This is our discussion room, not an ego machine. Those whom are on the path of ascension use their power chakra (ego) to promote information, defeat ignorance, and enlighten.
Secondly, if you post information; you are going to have people on here who have the right to be skeptical. It is fox news, and it is on a web, those two truths creates a need to discern the information for what it is, where it came from, who produced it, etc. You can’t expect to share information especially of scientific nature and not expect people to ask for sources. The information you shared is public knowledge which means when someone posts it, and someone disagrees, you can’t be defensive about someone not taking it for fact, or illustrating an alternative opinion about it. It’s up to those people to discern for themselves, if you participate beyond the original post, expect to be asked questions, take criticism, etc. This is the wonderful tool of the internet; I for one want free thinking people, who are open to all information, but that doesn’t mean they have to agree 100% of the time.
As for your article, it’s very interesting.
If I could shed some light on the idea of parallel universe from my own perspective (that’s all it takes to be considerate of others), I believe the universes their speaking about comes from the observable construct of the universe. They can only observe the reaction of time, the cause, effect, etc. Therefore, it’s not the quantum science that is truly doing any of the discovering here, it reflects our conceptual perception of what is.
For example, you and I live in the same house and I walk outside. You see me walk outside, but you remain in the house. Then by chance a meteorite smashes into the house. From my perspective (in my universe) you died when the house was hit by the meteorite. But you whose experiencing a completely different universe inside the house, nothing happens and I simply come back in to enjoy the rest of the day. So in your perception the outcome is significantly different then the events that took place in my universe. By me walking outside created a split in relative reality, where different outcomes played out and I would never know that you continued living in your own universe.
This truth cannot be “proven” since it is always individual driven by singular consciousness. Therefore, we live within a multi-dimensional state in the ‘now’; it is our interactions between these multi-verses that provide infinite possibilities based on duality (observable 2D manifestation currently in this paradigm). This is illustrated through our understanding of conscious and subconscious, which generates our conception of choice and the personal development of free will.

Yea but if you thought that he died, in your universe...you would be living in an illusion, because he didn't die. It may be your perception, but that doesn't mean that perception is true.
Perception may be our reality, that doesn't make it the reality. I like to use 911 as an example. Many people think that 911 was an inside job...some think it was arab terrorists. Some think a missile hit the Pentagon, others a plane. Some think the planes that hit the towers were cargo planes, others passenger planes...some people don't believe any planes hit at all. Now, clearly...not all of these people are right lol Something happened on that day. There might even be people who don't believe 911 ever happened. But if you go to New York...you'll see, the towers aren't there. I know, I've been there lol There are no towers there. Whoever thinks that, is living in an illusion.
So you're saying that...if these people who don't believe 911 happened...went to NYC..they would be in a totally different parallel universe...where 911 actually didn't happen, and the towers are there? No sorry, it wouldn't happen that way. They'd go...and see there's no towers there...and realize they were wrong. I mean there is an objective reality, let's not fool ourselves here. There is such thing as truth...there may be an infinite number of perspectives of the One Truth...but that doesn't mean all those perceptions are right, or actually reflect the real truth. People can believe I don't exist....but I'm pretty sure I do lol How could they live in a parallel reality where I don't exist...if I exist lol I could never not be in existence. Your perception of what is happening in your world is always reflected back at you through your mirrors. So if your saying that if someone dies in your reality, then your perception dictates that they no longer exist? How do you believe beyond a doubt that this is true, that person has simply left your reality, that doesn't mean they no longer exist within the collective universe, as they are perceiving their own universe.
You believe that finality dictates what is true, but I believe eternity dictates its own fate and therefore, where I am led will never be where you are led, because we perceive our existence on a completely different level. We may share the collective here, but my three dimensional physical existence doesn't dictate what I am, nor my continued existence beyond the views of those around me. I am where I will always be, in my now.
Global shifts, such as 911 are perceived globally. They reside in what we call the collective consciousness, because the event impacted enough individual perspectives that it became truth to all who are connected to this density.
Your perception of truth differs from mine, but that truth doesn't reflect right and wrong. If I believed 911 didn't happen, doesn't mean I'm right, because my universe is still being integrated into the collective, that is part of being three dimensional here on earth. I accept a higher plane of truth that actively affects the collective, as per our soul contract to participate here. Your logic is sound, but you have to see beyond your perceptive duality of what is right and wrong in truth. Truth exists beyond duality and that is the truth of existential development. We are here to learn, experience, love, and develop our skills as universal beings of the oneness. I share with you my truth, and you share yours and together we find commonality. This brings about an even higher truth, which is reflected through two infinite existential beings. That generates a massive amount of love energy through connection. Connection to each other creates higher truth, which creates change.
What happens when an event (like 911) affects the collective perspective of the world? It changes it...and it has.

Well look, you're free to believe that 911 never happened. But if you were to go to NYC...you'd see, there's no towers there. It doesn't really matter how much you believe it...that won't change the reality that it happened. You'd plain and simply be living in an illusion lol And there's nothing wrong with that, per se...but it's wrong in the sense of...it's not true. And it's okay to say it's not true.
I mean we do live in a collective reality, there is truth outside of us. Some people believe Francis Bacon was Shakespeare...others don't. Obviously either it's true or it's not lol 911...if 911 happened and nobody realized it...that wouldn't change the fact that it happened. People wouldn't be able to go to NYC and see the towers. Or...would they? lol Maybe I'm missing something.
I do believe in parallel realities and parallel universes. It's just hard for me to wrap my mind around the idea that...two people can see the same thing, have totally different perceptions of it, yet both perceptions would be true. Or if two people have two totally different opinions...like whether Casey Anthony murdered her baby or not...and have both those opinions be true. Either she did or didn't lol How could one version be true, and another opposite version be true...aren't we in the same universe? But yea, thanks for indulging my inquiry lol
