Agreed! That's like Mr. Ed saying 10,000 people were arrested when in reality 10,000 people lost their jobs.
If you hear on the news that "US Soldiers invaded Iraq" you think of war and hostility. If you hear "US Soldiers visited Iraq", that hardly screams war and hostility.
Invasion sounds ok to me, we are so used to picture doom if we see the words alien and invasion together.
Which may not be the case.
One of the definitions of invasion is:
An incursion by a large number of people or things into a place or sphere of activity.
