    Thank you for telling us about this Sahaja Yoga Meditation, I looked it up and it sounds very exciting! I am going to read more about it today. Gailene,  I would like to share my (limited) experiences with meditation but I think it might be appropriate to start some some threads (discussions) to keep the topics organized.

     

    I so glad you are starting this and you dropped by because I've been looking for friends to share ideas and experiences with as well.

why do you feel the need to meditate?

I have been on a long personal spiritual journey for many, many years and it seems like for the past few I have been in somewhat of a spiritual doldrum. Even though I had tried meditation before a few times in my life, I wasn't sure why or what I was trying to achieve. The funny thing now, is the thing that made me interested in it again is I read somewhere that meditation is a great remedy for ADD/ADHD and I feel sometimes that I suffer from those types of concentration problems. Hi Gailene, I started this discussion with hopes of others jumping in. As far as the many different types? I certainly can't name them all :-) Many different cultures and religions have used some form of meditation since forever and it is my understanding that most of them are trying to achieve a couple of primary goals. My first session in a long while

My first meditation session since about 8 months ago, feels familiar. 20 minutes of counting 4 breaths over and over while letting go of any sensations, thoughts or sounds, although the sounds of the neighborhood and the fan in the room come to have a peaceful quality to them - even the loud dog barking across the street seems to be something peaceful that is easy to let go of. I use to do 15 minutes at a time but I've decided to up that to 20 or more. I set my stop watch on my blackberry for…

Started up again

Hello everyone! After a 8 month hiatus, I am meditating again. I've only practiced meditating alone and with the knowledge/instruction I've gathered from reading. After trying a pretty regular daily 15 minute session for a few months, I gave up in frustration after not feeling the sort of inner peace I was looking for. My theory for my let down is that I never included God/Higher Power/Higher Consciousness and Love into my sessions.
