When You Feel Like Giving Up

8109150494?profile=originalWhether we want to admit it, there are times when we feel like giving up...on...life, friendship, love, family or any one of a number of things and there is no shame in that. It just shows we are humans...being.

We've known those "woe is me" kind of people whose lives are always in chaos [mainly in their minds], then we know others who're always smiling and positive no matter what happens in their life. Clearly they both 'feel' like giving up at times but what makes one give up while the other seems to get past it? Why? Is it their personality?

It's easy to see that the way we perceive real life situations defines who we are. We can either throw our hands in the air and just give up every time the lest thing happens, feeling defeated before we even attempt to try and resolve our problems or we can say this is just another bump in the road like all the other bumps and I'll learn from it and move on.

There are hundreds of clichés out there encouraging us not to give up. Here are a few good ones:

8109150691?profile=original"Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail". Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Magic is believing in yourself, if you can do that, you can make anything happen". Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

"All things are possible until they are proved impossible and even the impossible may only be so, as of now". Pearl S. Buck

"All who have accomplished great things have had a great aim, have fixed their gaze on a goal which was high, one which sometimes seemed impossible". Orison Swett Marden

"Each of us has much more hidden inside us than we have had a chance to explore. Unless we create an environment that enables us to discover the limits of our potential, we will never know what we have inside of us". Muhammad Yunus

"Better a Has-been than a Never-was. But better a Never-was than a Never-tried-to-be". Anonymous

The musician Seal said the best advice he ever received was from his father which is "no condition is permanent." I like this because it's basically saying there's no reason to give up.

There are times I feel like giving up and when I do I make a vow to just take one whole day to rant, rave, cry and be upset, then get up the next day, dry my tears, paste a smile on my face [though it's hard] and be grateful for the experience because I've learned giving up is not an option. My mom gave me that advice when I was a teenager and it's never failed me, that is, when I'm smart enough to put it into practice. :)

When you feel like giving up here's an important thing to remember: "Every minute starts an hour and every minute is a new opportunity. Each time the clock ticks you have a chance to start over, to say, to do, think or feel something in such a way that you and the whole world are better for it." - Anonymous -

  • You too, <3Beautiful Sky<3

  • Suze, Thank you for sharing. We can learn a lot from those who we consider less fortunate. They do make us take a different look at our life and sometimes I think that is another reason they are here and they are "thought provoking."

Yes, I can agree we are receivers but by the same token we are transmitters. I try to dismiss whatever thoughts do not serve me and let them go and surround myself with love to dispel any after effects. We have a choice as to what we pay attention to and what we believe to be truth.

Thank you. Suze for your thought provoking comments. :)

  • Helene, you're very welcome.

  • We are all telepathic naturally. Decide what is your thought and what is not. There are forces around us that are thought provoking.... Lots Of Love.  :-)

  • I firmly believe, we are like sponges... we are receivers.. There have been times I can be on a high and then all of a sudden a really negative thought will come in.. was it my thought? No, Because In was in a different frame of mind... Maybe your thoughts are not yours...

  • Hi Avatar, Thank you for this post. I had a momentarily lapse the other day.  I have been going through some heavy stuff and I am In the process of a career change (leap of faith). As I was walking into the shops the other day I saw a disabled person wheeled out and I just saw something that I was feeling "a sense of hopelessness, faith) and thought... do I give up and just depend on the system... But, then as I was walking,, I thought to myself, Sue, what are you thinking, and why are you thinking this way...  No, I'am going to keep my head up as it is okay... however, I could see at that point why people give up.. It does come down to your mind..(mind over matter). Just thought I would share an I sight I had.Suzexx

  • thank you avatar!
