FLATLAND: The country of the plane

Folktale Victorian[multidimensional models]In 'El Pais' Flat', the characters are various geometric shapes that only live in a two-dimensional world. Early in our history, the narrator, a middle-aged square, has a disturbing dream in which he visits a dimensional realm, the Land of the Line, whose inhabitants are unable to move from one point to another. With growing frustration trying to explain who he is, a line of lines from a country where one can move not only from point to point, but also from side to side. The residents of Country Line, angry, about to attack when suddenly awakened.Later that same day, trying to help in his studies to his grandson, a small hexagon. The grandson suggests the possibility of a third dimension, a realm where there would be up and down, in addition to and fro. The Square blemish this stupid idea imaginable. That same night the square is an extraordinary, vital for life: get a visit from a resident of the Country Area, the realm of three dimensions.At first, the Square simply feel confused by his visitor, a strange circle that seems to change size and even disappear. The visitor presents himself as a Sphere. He seemed to change size and disappear, just because he was approaching the square in space and down simultaneously. Realizing that only arguments could not convince the Square of the existence of the third dimension, the Sphere, exasperated, he enters a deep experience.The Square is strongly shaken. He says: 'I had a feeling confused and dizzy vision was something different to do, he saw a line that was not a line, and a space that was not space. I was and was not myself at the same time. When I could recover his voice, uttered a cry of agony: This is madness or hell '. 'There is none of those things, "calmly replied the voice of the Sphere. 'It is knowledge, are the three dimensions. Open your eyes again and tries to look calm. "Having had that experience intuitive third dimension, the square becomes an apostle, trying to persuade their fellow citizens of the country's map that space is more than just a proper notion of mathematicians. Each year hereafter, the high priest of the Country of Plano, Circle Head, goes up so much to see if it has recovered his senses, but the picture continues to stubbornly insist that there is a third dimension. You can not forget, but can not explain it.
