We’re all born with special gifts, talents, and abilities. Yes, even you! Once you discover your own soul gifts, talents, and abilities you’ll be able to use them in everyday life. No matter whether you’re at work or at home, they can be used to help you attain your true calling of being all that you can be – a divine being from God. When you use your soul’s gifts things seem to come to you a little easier or you may find yourself in the right place at the right time for an opportunity. The first step is living and doing what you love.

The second step is to start doing what you love now! Don’t try to run before you can walk here, as I would encourage you to take small steps toward that goal – at least you’re moving in the right direction. Having observed many people who are doing what they love, I can feel and see the energy of excitement, joy, and enthusiasm that emanates from them. I describe it by saying that their soul has become positively infused. It’s as if I am seeing them lit up from the inside out.

I try to practice and live my life according to Paramahansa Yogananda, who said: “Life is to be lived. If you live abundantly and use all your talents and energies to the limit every day, you’ll develop ever-greater power and understanding of your full potential as a soul.  There’s no end to the life, love, power, and wisdom that could be yours if you start using what you have.”

But right now you may be saying: “How do I know what my souls gifts are and better yet, how do I go about finding them?

Let me help you with an easy exercise to help you discover your soul’s purpose. This exercise will assist you in identifying your soul gifts, talents, and abilities as you embark on your own journey of being all that you can be.

This week’s exercise will get you started on discovering your Soul Gifts. Get some paper and draw a line down the middle of the paper. Now, in the top left hand column, write down the name of someone you admire. Take a moment to think about this so it’s someone you really do admire.

Close your eyes and as you imagine them in front of you, ask yourself what you admire most about them. Open your eyes and make a list under their name. Is it their strength or their courage, professionalism or just their humor, etc.?  Write down everything and anything that you’ve come to marvel about them. Once you’ve completed the list, go to the right hand column of the paper and on top of that column, think of someone who you know who really admires you!

Now make your list of what that person admires about you, from things they’ve said in the past. Is it your humor, compassion, kindness, or your generosity, etc.? Now compare the two lists. Notice that some of the qualities you wrote in the left hand column have some common attributes as someone else has come to admire in you. I believe that what you admire and see in others is actually a soul reflection of what’s inside of you.

This is a great starting point, so you learn how to notice and work with your own distinctive gifts and talents.
