Today's children are different from any other generation that the world has ever experienced. They have needs that our society does not appear to be able to serve and instead of accepting this, as previous generations have, they have become the 'squeaky wheel that insists upon change. This is the story of my struggle with my son's suicide tendencies and how we overcame them.

Today's children are different from any other generation that the world has ever experienced. They have needs that our society does not appear to be able to serve and instead of accepting this, as previous generations have, they have become the 'squeaky wheel that insists upon change. Indigo and Crystal children –and adults—have specific characteristics but these energies are often not clearly defined as one or the other. You may have strong Indigo traits as well some Crystal energy. You may be a Crystal with some Indigo traits. You may feel like you are a little of both. And there are adults with these energies too, you have been around for a long time and this information can be a welcome relief for you, as you may have long thought that there was something wrong with you because you didn’t fit in, no one understood you and you felt really alone. The goal of these energies is to bring change to the world and they are doing it in their unique ways. The fact that the world is not quite ready for them is not a challenge, they will be who they are until, in their own way, they bring about the change they came here to create.

Whether you are 9 months or 90 years, these traits can apply to you. So review the list and know that you have brought a special energy to the planet, you have a very specific purpose here and you are not alone.

There are some general characteristics that are used to describe Indigos and  Crystals and they include the following:

Indigos can have any combination or all of the following characteristics:

•  Highly intuitive, empathic and psychically sensitive
• Disruptive, unruly and argumentative
• Very creative in the arts, music, technology and writing
• Opposed to rules and regulations
• Communicates with and are sensitive to animals
• Becomes depressed easily, which can lead to suicide
• Prone to addiction and substance abuse, especially alcohol and drugs
• Good at self-sabotage, and often frustrated with their life direction
• Able to see the truth in all things and know when they are being lied to
• Have a strong sense of integrity and demand it from others
• Are often diagnosed with dyslexia, ADD, ADHD or auditory processing problems
• Are very direct with comments, almost to the point of rudeness
• Need peace and calm (although they can cause much chaos)
• Always feel alone, out of place and different from others, also like to be left alone
• Have few friends and the ones they have are usually Indigos
• Very intelligent but are under-achievers
• Take a long time to ‘grow up’, do not know how to be in society
• Lack of self confidence, can be to the point of self-hatred
• Can become angry and have trouble controlling their anger, which is usually from frustration
• Have a strong need for love, understanding and acceptance
• Have an innate understanding of spirituality although they are not open about their spiritual abilities or gifts

Crystals can have any combination or all of the following characteristics:

• Highly intuitive and psychically sensitive
• Very empathic, to the level of processing energy for the planet
• Quiet and withdrawn, can also be very shy
• Withdraws when threatened, can lead to autism in young children
• Very musically or artistically talented
• See angels, spirits and can communicate with them
• Can be born with memories of life on the ‘other side’
• Peaceful and peace-loving, does not argue and will withdraw when faced with confrontation
• Finds the world confusing, intimidating and loud
• Sensitive to energy shifts and can become very agitated with them
• Can have allergies to a variety of things, especially food and chemicals
• Very intelligent but keep it to themselves
• Can have a 'foot in both worlds' and have trouble staying grounded on earth
• Isolate themselves socially because they find it hard to be around people
• Quietly bring about change, not like Indigos
• Have a strong need for love, understanding and acceptance

Parenting Indigos can be difficult and often discouraging. As younger children they can be diagnosed with learning disabilities, ADD and/or ADHD, and have trouble in school. As they get older the problems in school can continue and even worsen. They do not process information the same way as other children which often leads to a misdiagnosis of learning disabilities—they are visual learners and do best when they can see and experience what they are learning about. For this reason homeschooling, alternative or specialized schools, such as the Waldorf schools, are best for them. Despite their often poor performance in school, Indigos are very intelligent.

Both the younger and adult Indigos take their time to find their life path. Many are still wondering what to do with their life after age 40. Many adult Indigos will not marry or have children until they are well into their thirties. But they won’t be alone, this is the ‘roommate generation’ and many of them will live with room mates, who will become their surrogate or extended family, for a long time. When they decide to marry, they will.

Indigos also often make terrible choices in romantic partnerships. They are highly sensitive and empathic and tend to choose the person who needs them the most, which is also the person who needs the most help. And the results can be disastrous.

Crystals can be less of a parenting challenge only because they are not as vocal, argumentative or forceful as Indigos. But in their own way they present parenting challenges because they can be very needy children, fussy, with poor health and high attention needs which can manifest when they are of school age. If they are raised in a stressful environment with loud talking, arguing or emotional tension they will simply draw farther into their shell until they refuse to connect with the outside world. Many autistic children are also Crystal children and they are here to hold certain energies in place while they live in their own little world. Don’t consider them to be mentally challenged because they are not. Even the most severely autistic children are highly intelligent. When they are ready to come out of their shell, when they feel the world is ready for them, they will and then they will amaze us with their extraordinary gifts and talents.

Whether you are an Indigo or Crystal or have a combination of these energies, you came here to do very special work. Finding that path can be a challenge and it may feel like many doors are closed to you. Do not be discouraged—you are the change the world needs and the secret to success for you is to believe in yourself and in your gifts, use your guidance to help you find the best outlet for them. Once you find your path you will be unstoppable and will have the joy, peace, understanding and acceptance that you desire.
