-Simply call, in mass, to remind House Majority leader Steve Scalise’ office that you support letting Tara Reade testify before Congress over Biden’s criminal behavior.

A situation in our neighbourhood came out of nowhere and has blown up and required the engagement and time of residents; myself included. It involves city zoning and guns, and the people around here aren’t happy. It could have been very quiet and civil, but when a petitioner [and friends?] rips down the flyers concerned citizens post on the super boxes to make sure folks are aware and in a position to share their opinions of opposition if they choose… well, it spells war.

We’ve had a news crew investigating, the school two blocks away from the potentially rezoned premises in question wasn’t aware of the petition until a parent notified them, and the superintendent will be involved to see if there are school laws about distances of elementary schools from gun sales locations.

Frankly, it’s preposterous that anyone would float this idea at all and because we submitted our comments to be tabled at an upcoming virtual meeting/hearing, the petitioner sent an email rebuttal to my private, personal email address and I’m not happy about it.

The response was condescending and refuted all my concerns as inconsequential and unfounded; like I don’t know anything. He said he doesn’t see the relevance of the MS13 gangs and Sinaloan Cartel people flooding the border into Arizona and Phoenix and how that relates to the sale of guns.

Then the many flyers taped to mailboxes were removed and that signalled the intent of the applicant loud and clear. We’re not to air our opinions or try to influence others in opposition to this petition. Sound familiar? CENSORSHIP!

As so often happens, though, that act boomeranged and just made the residents double down and find other ways—which means literally taping flyers to the front doors of homes and handing out flyers to people passing by and having live conversations rather than taping them to mailboxes. That means we have instant feedback and an accurate barometer on the situation.

Bottom line, another major time-sucking task has inserted itself in my calendar and forced older items down low and I do my best to deal with it and everything else. There is a time-sensitive nature to this so if we don’t want the rezoning and gun sales in our residential neighbourhood to end up in a “commercial gun shop” scenario, we have to do everything we can to alert people to the situation so they can respond by the deadline and be heard.

As they say, all that is required for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.

So, I apologize but my posts may be more sporadic for a bit as this situation evolves and my participation ebbs and flows. The good news is, those of us who are talking to folks haven’t run into anyone who isn’t opposed, so we’re all on the same page. If the City of Phoenix goes by the feedback from the people who live here—the majority—how can they grant the petition? We’ll see what happens. We know it’s not a perfect world and it’s wildly unpredictable.
