The fourth is what for decades now has been called a “headless fourth branch of government,” the administrative state.

As early as 1937, in a “Report of the President’s Committee on Administrative Management,” the authors write:

Without plan or intent, there has grown up a headless “fourth branch” of the Government, responsible to no one, and impossible of coordination with the general policies and work of the Government as determined by the people through their duly elected representatives.

The problem of waste and lack of accountability in this fourth branch, the report notes, has “been clearly recognized for a generations and ha[s] been growing steadily worse decade by decade.”

The Spoils System and the Permanent Bureaucracy

The report isn’t wrong. By the late nineteenth century, “civil service reform” had ended the old “spoils system.” The advent of lifelong “professional” civil servants brought the establishment of a bureaucratic class which saw its interests and loyalties as separate from the elected civilian government. This detachment from elected policymakers meant the administrative state was not terribly concerned with either efficiency or responsiveness to the public. It became an interest group all its own, but with far more power than any ordinary interest group.

The creation of the professional civil service had been a victory over the legacy of the populist Andrew Jackson who had demanded a move away from the old “professional” bureaucracy established by the Federalists. Jackson denounced the professional bureaucrats, concluding such persons “acquire a habit of looking with indifference upon the public interests and of tolerating conduct from which an unpracticed man would revolt.” Instead, the Jacksonians insisted “rotation” in government offices “constitutes a leading principle in the republican creed.”

In practice, of course, this new non-political bureaucracy was anything but unbiased. Over time, the bureaucracy became self-consciously devoted to the “merit” system under which the bureaucrats imagined they gained and retained their offices by virtue of their own excellence.

Nonetheless, this problem of the bureaucracy as self-interested class would have remained quite limited were the powers of the bureaucracy more limited. Yet with the advent of the New Deal under Franklin Roosevelt, the size, scope, and power of the administrative state multiplied.

The Bureaucracy Takes Over the Functions of the Other Branches of Government

Moreover, as the New Deal progressed, the regulatory agencies came to assume all the powers that were supposed to be reserved to the branches of government that were given specific powers in the federal constitution. In his book Ex America (aka The People’s Pottage) Garet Garrett described this transformation:

These agencies have built up a large body of administrative law which the people are obliged to obey. And not only to they make their own laws; they enforce their own laws, acting as prosecutor, jury and judge; an appeal from their decisions to the regular courts is difficult. … Thus the Constitutional separation of the three governmental powers, namely, the legislative, the executive and the judicial is entirely lost.”

Thus, thanks to the rise of this fourth branch of government, an American is subject to laws not passed by any Congress, and subject to judicial punishments not commanded by any court of law. It’s all done “administratively” but nonetheless allows the agencies to “make and execute their own laws.”

The Rise of the National Security Bureaucracy

At the same time the regulatory administrative state was making so many gains, so was the federal government’s domestic police force.

First came the Justice Department’s Bureau of Investigation — later the FBI — and its General Intelligence Division used to spy on Americans during the First World War. The Division’s head J. Edgar Hoover helped execute the “Palmer Raids” used to persecute Americans who were insufficiently worshipful of the Wilson administration’s national security policies. Over time, Hoover would work tirelessly to turn the FBI into a law unto itself, using it to blackmail politicians, harass innocent Americans, and generally twist American law and the American political system to benefit Hoover, his cronies, and the FBI itself.

Things became worse after the Second World War when Congress made permanent the intelligence agencies that had formed during the war to gather intelligence on the Axis.

These organizations — most notably the Central Intelligence Agency — would come to function virtually without oversight, with most of their activities declared too secret to endure public scrutiny. Over time, these ostensibly civilian organizations would become increasingly intertwined with the growing “special operations” arms of the Department of Defense. By the early twenty-first century, the Pentagon would develop “its own clandestine intelligence” capabilities and take over many of the “covert paramilitary activities and unconventional warfare” operations once directed by the CIA. The line between the nation’s intelligence agencies and the conventional military agencies became increasingly blurred.

But these agencies always exercised far more power in the American political system than was indicated on paper. As Hoover knew all too well, intelligence agencies can use their powers to collect information on elected officials, and use that information to protect the intelligence agencies themselves. The strategic use of “leaks,” reports, investigations, and criminal prosecutions through the Justice Department allow the intelligence organs of the United States to “nudge” policymakers in directions that service the preferred agenda of the security agencies themselves.

Ordinary and obscure Americans, of course, are all the more at the mercy of organizations like the FBI. Few regular people possess the resources necessary to mount a defense against the Justice Department’s gargantuan budgets and legions of attorneys that can be aimed at any American who becomes annoying to these federal law enforcement bureaucrats and their friends.

The “Deep State”

It has perhaps become impossible to discuss the realities of this headless fourth branch of government without noting the increasing awareness of a so-called deep state within the federal government. What portions of this administrative state constitutes the deep state, however, remains a matter of debate. Some contend it could include any and all independent administrative agencies. Others suggest the term ought to be applied only to the national-security agencies.

Certainly, the term “deep state” carries connotations beyond just regulatory agencies, but tends to point toward those agencies that can — by invoking national security and the need for secrecy — stifle efforts and oversight of the organizations in question.

Moreover, it is this national-security oriented branch of the administrative state that is likely to prove the most dangerous. This is due to these agencies’ ability to carry out operations kept secret from the public, their access to seemingly limitless amounts of funding, and their ability to investigate and prosecute elected policymakers. Consequently, these agencies possess immense leeway in pursuing their own interests independent of the civilian elected government, and with relative impunity. They have become, in the words of historian Alfred McCoy, “in many ways autonomous from the executive, and increasingly so.”

And who can be surprised by such autonomy? We live in a country where the federal government collects more than $3 trillion in revenue per year. Trillion-dollar budget deficits can be managed by monetizing debt through the central bank, or by selling even larger piles of government bonds. The Pentagon, for example, doesn’t know what it did with $6 trillion — but nothing will come of it. Being a government agency in such an environment means never having to justify the agency’s existence. The public can be trusted to conclude it’s all in the name of “national security” or “public service.”

Meanwhile, every two years we’re told that electing “the right people” will change our fortunes and finally bring accountability and a new direction to a federal government in the midst of a crisis of legitimacy.

The army of federal agents, officers, and administrators know better. And they’re fine with it.

We live at a time when the pace of change has reached at an exponential rate, and our society is literally coming apart at the seams all around us. That makes this a perfect environment for weird stuff to happen, and that means that I will have no shortage of things to write about in the coming days.

I would like to start off by discussing the really bizarre phenomenon that is happening in the skies over Colorado and Nebraska right now. According to the New York Times, hordes of sophisticated drones have been “flying in precise formations” over those two states at night and nobody knows where they are from…

They come in the night: Drones — lots of them — flying in precise formations over the Colorado and Nebraska prairie.
Why are they there? Unclear.
“It’s creepy,” said Missy Blackman, who saw three drones hovering over her farm outside Palisade, Neb., on a recent evening, including one that lingered right above her house. “I have a lot of questions of why and what are they, and nobody seems to have any answers.”

One or two unidentified drones is not a big deal, but we are talking about hundreds and potentially even thousands of drones that are operating in coordination with one another, and nobody has any idea who owns them.

According to the Denver Post, these very large drones “have 6-foot wingspans and spend the nighttime hours flying in grid-like patterns”…

The sheriffs of Lincoln, Washington and Sedgwick counties told The Denver Post on Friday that their offices have been getting calls this week about the unknown winged devices, days after initial reports out of Phillips and Yuma counties caused a national stir.
Local and national authorities say they have no idea who is operating the groups of large drones, reported to have 6-foot wingspans and spend the nighttime hours flying in grid-like patterns.

Needless to say, this phenomenon is freaking a lot of people out, and it is spawning all sorts of theories…

While the powers that be have no answers, the mystery aircraft have inspired a wide range of theories online. It has to be the work of a Mexican drug cartel, one commenter on The Post’s website said. No, no — it’s obviously aliens from a far-off galaxy, another replied. Perhaps it’s the History Channel looking for lost cities, or ranchers trying to track their cows, others theorized.

On a lighter note, over in Washington state officers recently “spent 10 hours” digging out vehicles that had literally been engulfed by giant tumbleweeds…

State troopers in Washington state spent 10 hours digging cars and a semi-truck out from under hills of tumbleweeds that flooded a road on New Year’s Eve in an event being dubbed “Tumblegeddon.”
Washington State Patrol Trooper Chris Thorson told USA TODAY on Tuesday that his district began receiving 911 calls around 6:30 p.m. local time about tumbleweeds blocking the roadway in an area about 20 miles west of Richland, one of the state’s Tri-Cities.

That particular area of Washington state does have to deal with tumbleweeds, but Washington State Patrol Trooper Chris Thorson has never seen things anywhere close to this bad. According to him, “a strange mixture of weather and circumstances” created just the right conditions for something like this to happen…

“Visibility was bad, which caused cars to slow down,” he said. “When they stopped, the tumbleweeds were piling so fast, they just fully engulfed in minutes. It’s kind a strange mixture of weather and circumstances.
“I don’t know how to really explain it,” he added. “It’s just odd. It’s so odd because it doesn’t happen. Typically, 99 percent of the time, you can drive through tumbleweeds.”

Meanwhile, down in southern Australia they are dealing with colossal wildfires that are unlike anything they have ever experienced before. These fires are so massive that they are actually creating their own weather. The thunderstorms that have been spawned as a result create even more fires, and embers are being pushed out by high winds over a very large area. At one point, thousands of people were forced to take refuge along the beaches because the fire had cut off all other escape routes…

Thousands of holidaymakers and locals were forced to flee to beaches in fire-ravaged southeast Australia Tuesday, as deadly blazes ripped through popular tourist areas and cut off several towns.
In fire-encircled seaside communities along a 200-kilometre (135-mile) strip of coast, terrified people — wrapped in blankets and make-shift facemasks — sought refuge near the water.

As they covered their faces with anything that was available, they huddled along the shore under “an eerie orange sky” as they waited to see what would happen…

Dozens of fires continue to burn out of control in the states of Victoria and New South Wales (NSW). Thousands more people were forced to evacuate their homes along the NSW coast on Tuesday, which is dotted with small beach towns popular with holiday-makers over the Christmas season.
In Batemans Bay, NSW, hundreds of families fled their homes Tuesday under an eerie orange sky. “It was like we were in hell,” vacationer Zoe Simmons told CNN. “We were all covered in ash.”

Of course firefighters are doing all they can to battle these enormous blazes, and quite a few of them have already perished.

On the other side of the world, unusually cold and snowy weather is making headlines. In fact, we are being told that some parts of the UK could be about to get as much as 20 inches of snow…

A cold band of weather will hit Norway later this month, bringing with it the potential of snow, ice and potentially sub-zero conditions. Such is the low-temperature forecast, that some reports have stated temperatures will drop to as low as -3C (26.6F) which could potentially drift across the North Sea towards the UK.
Moreover, in a model produced by WX Charts, the snow falling across the UK could be as much as 20 inches (50cm).

In middle America such a storm would not be unusual, but for the UK this is definitely weird.

Unfortunately, things are likely to get even weirder in the weeks and months ahead. Our planet is becoming increasingly unstable, global weather patterns are getting really crazy, we are on the precipice of war in the Middle East, the fabric of society is unraveling all over the world, and we have never been more primed for an economic meltdown than we are right now.

So buckle up and hold on tight, because the ride ahead is not going to be smooth.

There has been a thorough attempt to expunge the Culkin story from the Internet and the original article in French is missing, but in a different interview, Culkin says his father was “an evil man who was both psychologically and physically abusive.”

An invasion of the tiny Asian nation of Brunei might also be in the works, Pentagon and CIA sources say. That is because Brunei is the main nexus of dark money in Asia, the sources say. In a related move, the top three executives of Japan Post Holdings were forced to resign on December 27th. Japan Post Holdings was taken over by the Rothschilds and Rockefellers after Fukushima. The Japanese are now about to take it back.

A hidden part of this financial/economic war that’s now raging involves an East/West tug-of-war over historical bonds.

The U.S. Treasury Department has started buying Chinese historical bonds in hopes of using them to get gold to meet a January 31, 2020 payments deadline, Japanese right-wing sources and P3 Freemason sources say.

Benjamin Fulford — December 16th 2019: Antarctica is Under Lockdown as Secret Space Program Unveiling Begins; part 2

Now, to segue back to the here/now geopolitics that this newsletter usually focuses on, let us see how the secret space program ties into the recent U.S./China partial trade deal. Asian secret society leaders have long told us they have wanted the U.S. to reveal its secret space program to them. This was agreed to at the recent U.S./China trade talks, they say. That’s why the details of the agreement have not yet been made public, they add. What has been made public indicates that China has offered to buy an extra $200 billion worth of goods from the U.S. every year. Economists have been scratching their heads over this, because the official U.S. economy does not have the capacity to export that much. However, if secret space technology is included in the picture, then everything makes sense.

The U.S. is also now going to wind down its germ warfare against Chinese agriculture as a part of the deal, CIA sources say. The story at the link below, trying to blame Chinese gangsters for drones caught dropping swine fever into pig farms, is almost certainly a CIA attempt to divert the blame for these attacks.

The other thing that has been going on this week is the continued strange movements in the financial markets. A CIA source in Southeast Asia tells us Indonesia has suddenly announced a $40 billion infrastructure project that he says is a payoff to the government for giving the Rothschilds access to some of their gold. Goldman Sachs provides partial confirmation of this by reporting that 1,200 tons or $57 billion of “unexplained gold flows” have been spotted recently.

Also, according to Zero Hedge, “A Fed economist, Ruth Judson, wrote in 2017 that about 60% of all U.S. currency, and about 75% of $100 bills, had left the country by the end of 2016—for a total of about $900 billion in U.S. dollars kept overseas.” That number is now over $1 trillion, as the world’s rich hoard cash in a fight against negative interest rates, CIA sources say.

A Brief History of Chocolate

The Theobroma cacao tree is native to Central and South America. The Azteks believed that the seeds were gifts from Quetzalcoatl, god of wisdom. The industrial revolution in 19th century Europe applied new methods to chocolate production. Alkalizing salts reduced bitterness. The “Dutch cocoa” process separated cocoa butter from the liquor and made it easier and cheaper to produce in large quantities. After everything you’ve read and heard, you may not believe it – but chocolate has gotten an unfair bad rap. People say it causes acne; that you should eat carob instead; that it’s junk food. These are substances that reduce the ongoing cellular and arterial damage caused by oxidative reactions.

You may have heard of a type of antioxidants called polyphenols. These are protective chemicals found in plant foods such as red wine and green tea. Chocolate, it turns out, is particularly rich in polyphenols. According to researchers at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, the same antioxidant properties found in red wine that protect against heart disease are also found in comparable quantities in chocolate.

How does chocolate help to prevent heart disease? The oxidation of LDL cholesterol is considered a major factor in the promotion of coronary disease. When this waxy substance oxidizes, it tends to stick to artery walls, increasing the risk of a heart attack or stroke. But chocolate to the rescue! The polyphenols in chocolate inhibit oxidation of LDL cholesterol.

And there’s more. One of the causes of atherosclerosis is blood platelets clumping together — a process called aggregation. The polyphenols in chocolate inhibit this clumping, reducing further the risks of atherosclerosis.

High blood pressure is a well known risk factor for heart disease. It is also one of the most common causes of kidney failure, and a significant contributor to many kinds of dementia and cognitive impairment. Cocoa May be Associated with Improved Cardiovascular Health

Why are people with risk factors for heart disease sometimes told to take a baby aspirin every day? The reason is that aspirin thins the blood and reduces the likelihood of clots forming (clots play a key role in many heart attacks and strokes). In a study of 1,000 heart attack survivors, published by Stockholm’s Karolinska Institutet in 2009, patients who ate dark chocolate several times per week cut their risk of dying from heart disease threefold compared to those who didn’t eat chocolate at all.

Are chocolate’s benefits limited to the health of the body? Hardly. Chocolate has long been renowned for its remarkable effects on human mood, and we are now beginning to understand why.

Chocolate is the richest known source of a little-known substance called theobromine, a close chemical relative of caffeine. Theobromine, like caffeine, and also like the asthma drug theophylline, belongs to the chemical group known as xanthine alkaloids. Chocolate products contain small amounts of caffeine, but not nearly enough to explain the attractions, fascinations, addictions, and effects of chocolate. The mood enhancement produced by chocolate may be primarily due to theobromine.

Chocolate also contains other substances with mood elevating effects. One is phenethylamine, which triggers the release of pleasurable endorphins and potentates the action of dopamine, a neurochemical associated with sexual arousal and pleasure. Phenethylamine is released in the brain when people fall in love. The marketers who convinced us to give chocolate to our beloveds on Valentine’s Day knew what they were doing.

Another substance found in chocolate is anandamide (from the Sanskrit word “ananda,” which means peaceful bliss). A fatty substance that is naturally produced in the brain, anandamide has been isolated from chocolate by pharmacologists at the Neurosciences Institute in San Diego. It binds to the same receptor sites in the brain as cannabinoids like THC — the primary psychoactive constituent in marijuana — and produces feelings of elation and exhilaration. (If this becomes more widely known, will they make chocolate illegal?)

If that weren’t enough, chocolate also boosts brain levels of serotonin. Women typically have lower serotonin levels during PMS and menstruation, which may be one reason women typically experience stronger cravings for chocolate at these times in their cycles. People suffering from depression characteristically have lower serotonin levels, which explains why an entire class of antidepressant medications called selective serotonin uptake inhibitors (including Prozac, Paxil, and Zoloft) have been developed to raise brain levels of serotonin.

The Unhealthy Side of Chocolate

Why, then, has chocolate gotten such a bum reputation? Most commercial chocolate is paired with some unsavory characters. First and foremost, of course, is sugar. Now I’m sure you don’t need another lecture on the dangers of excess sugar consumption. But if you wanted to become obese and dramatically raise your odds of developing diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease, foods high in sugar (including high fructose corn syrup) are just the ticket. And some commercial chocolates contain more sugar than chocolate!

Does chocolate contribute to acne? The milk in milk chocolate has been shown to do so, but I’ve not seen any evidence incriminating dark chocolate.

And then there’s the concern about heavy metals.

Independent studies have found lead and cadmium in chocolate — and often in amounts above California’s Prop 65 levels. As You Sow is an organization that recently funded such testing to be done on over 120 chocolate products, finding that almost all of them contained some amount of these metals. This resulted in them sending legal notices to over 20 popular chocolate brands.

Why does this matter? Lead has known neurological and behavioral risks, while cadmium can cause serious damage to the kidneys, liver, bones, and reproductive system. No amount of lead is safe for kids — some of the biggest chocolate consumers around. Kids are also more susceptible than adults are to the effects of ingesting cadmium and other heavy metals, due to their smaller bodies and developing brains.

There is some good news. There are certain brands that had undetectable levels, such as Endangered Species and Trader Joe’s chocolate. And in 2018, As You Sow established a partnership with Hershey, Mars, Nestle, and Cargill to ensure that independent testing is being done on their chocolate products to determine sources of lead and cadmium as well as ways to reduce their risk to public health. As with most foods, most of us probably aren’t eating chocolate in the quantities we may need to experience adverse effects, but that doesn’t mean it’s not concerning. To be an advocate for lead and cadmium testing in chocolate, you can ask your favorite chocolate companies to address the issue and even donate to the As You Sow testing fund directly.

What About Stevia-Sweetened Chocolate?

Stevia comes from the leaves of the Stevia rebaudiana bush, native to South America. It contains no calories and is 200 times sweeter than sugar. A growing number of sports drink and soda companies add it to their products. And now some chocolate manufacturers, including Dante Confections and Lily’s, are adding it to theirs, as well. Is that a good thing?

Probably.

On the one hand, stevia is essentially natural (though the junk food industry is finding ways to process it) and it may even have disease-preventing potential. A 2017 study in the Journal of Medicinal Food suggests that it could help prevent metabolic syndrome and related conditions. Other studies tell us that it might help lower high blood pressure.

On the other hand, there is some ongoing research around naturally occurring compounds in stevia which some scientists fear could potentially cause cancers and genetic mutations. At this point we don’t have overwhelming cause for concern, but widespread use of stevia, especially in its more processed forms, is still a new phenomena. No doubt we’ll learn more in the years and decades to come.

The safest path is probably to train your taste buds to enjoy the taste of fine chocolate without a lot of added sweetness – and Stevia just might be the best bet. If you grew up on Hershey Krackel and Nestlé Crunch, this might take a while. But just like any sophisticated taste, you’ll get there with time and practice. In a few months, you might savor a square of fine dark chocolate, close your eyes, and proclaim, “A mildly astringent mouthfeel, with a hint of jasmine and a woody aftertaste.”

OK, so high quality dark chocolate eaten in moderation might boost your health. But what about the health of the planet, and the welfare of people involved in the chocolate trade?

Cacao plantations take a long time to set up; a cacao tree doesn’t produce seeds until its third or fourth year, and can produce for up to 40 years. In West Africa, forests are being cut down to make room for more cacao plantations. This leads to cascading environmental catastrophes, including local effects like habitat loss, diversity loss, and desertification, as well as global effects on climate from the release of carbon into the atmosphere.

Also, cacao farming in West Africa relies heavily on dangerous petrochemicals which further degrade soil and water quality.

But the impact of modern cacao production doesn’t just impact the environment. It impacts people, too.

Remember how, when European colonizers set up cacao plantations in West Africa and Mesoamerica, they enslaved local populations to make their operations more cost-effective? Well, that never actually went away.

Most of the world’s chocolate comes from West Africa. Many of the farmers in this region are paid stunningly little for their harvest, and can’t afford to pay workers a living wage. The result is that labor conditions on West African cacao farms are notoriously deplorable, and child labor is still used widely.

Child Labor in Cocoa-Growing Regions

A 2015 US Labor Department concluded that more than two million children were engaged in dangerous labor in cocoa-growing regions of West Africa – often wielding machetes, handling neurotoxic pesticides, and laboring for long hours without any opportunity for education. And some of those children aren’t working for their parents – they’re enslaved.

The underlying issue in these countries is extreme poverty and wealth inequality. Sometimes the slavery is enforced by guns, and sometimes by starvation. But when farmers are being paid 70 cents per day to grow chocolate, they’re hard pressed to make ends meet and some will undertake desperate measures to try to survive.

Most West African cacao is purchased by huge companies like Hershey, Nestlé, Mars, and Cadbury. Caroline Chen, social justice manager for Green America, told me that Nestlé and Mars are at least trying to end slavery and extreme poverty in the chocolate trade. Hershey, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to be doing nearly as much. She told me that the company has been “greenwashing” the issue with empty PR promises, while continuing to rely on extreme cruelty and injustice to provide us with cheap and plentiful Kisses and Reese’s peanut butter cups.

Is it Possible to Make Real Change, Given Current Economics?

After all, chocolate company executives will argue that if they make their M&Ms and Kit Kat bars too expensive, people won’t buy them anymore.

Antonie Fountain, managing director of Voice of Organisations In Cocoa in Europe, did the math: A living wage in Ivory Coast is about $2 per day, while most cacao farmers receive only 70 cents per day. For every dollar you spend on a chocolate bar, only 3-6 cents ends up in the hands of the farmer. So tripling the wages paid to farmers would add only 6-12% to the cost we’d pay at the supermarket. This means that a 1.5 ounce Hershey bar would go up from 75 cents to 79 cents at the low end, and 83 cents at the high end.

Do you really think this price increase would tank sales of chocolate? We can look at the recent history of cigarette taxes to assess the likely drop in consumption – not much. Because of higher taxation rates, a pack of cigarettes in New York City costs $13, compared to under $5 in North Carolina. That’s a difference of about 288%. The difference in smoking rates: 17% in NC, and 11% in NYC. If such a huge tax can’t make a bigger dent in smoking rates, I seriously doubt that chocolate profits would be hurt by expecting companies to pay enough to keep their suppliers out of extreme poverty and slavery.

And let’s not forget the executive salaries paid by these companies. The CEO of Hershey received over $8 million last year. The Nestlé chief executive amassed $11 million in 2016. Mars, Inc, is a privately held company, so we have to guess how much its owners and leaders are raking in.

It seems that there’s a bit of room in the supply chain economics to produce chocolate that doesn’t rely on slavery and extreme poverty. Consumers can pay a little bit more. And maybe, if necessary, senior executives could make a bit less – at least until such time as the farmers who grow their chocolate can earn enough money to feed their own families.

Want to eat chocolate that’s free from this kind of brutality? Step #1 is to only buy chocolate that is fair trade certified. This means that a third-party is monitoring and certifying that farmers were paid decently. While it could be better enforced and not all fair trade certification systems are foolproof, fair trade is a major step in the right direction.

Organic certification helps, too. The most egregious labor conditions are found in West Africa. Almost all the world’s organically grown chocolate comes from Central and South America, where conditions are less exploitative. So organically grown chocolate has the advantage of being grown without the use of synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, and it also generally comes from regions where the workers are treated better.

And if you want to keep applying pressure on chocolate companies to do the right thing, and to get there faster, here are some things you can do.

Purchase chocolate products from companies who only use cocoa that has definitively not been produced with slave labor. Corruption is endemic to our world. Organizations that gain the trust of the people misuse that trust and are rarely brought to justice. The people have a valid right to know of the activities of its public servants so as to dethrone them once malfeasance or wrongdoing has been identified. The preceding article highlights corruption within public service institutions, revealing a breach of trust with respect to their lawful mandate to occupy said office. It is critically important for the evolution of society that individuals become aware of corruption, so as to unite together and declare grievances in an effort to correct the situation. When those grievances aren’t recognized by those in office, the people now have a valid right to remove the lawless individuals in these positions of power so as to restore law and order. All of this can only be possible individuals to gain awareness of the corruption at hand and begin the process of forming actions groups capable of issuing lawful rebukes. If done properly, the forces that oversee the realms of men will rally to support the people.

Sure it might mean disaster for big oil, but isn’t it time we put us and the environment ahead of profit?

A senior CIA officer, and relative of Admiral Richard Byrd of Antarctic exploration fame, told us:

“The Chilean military were ordered by their controllers not to go near Antarctica. They thought they were smarter and knew more than their masters. The C-130 has been removed. It wasn’t who was on the plane, it was what they were carrying that resulted in ‘the disappearance.’ At this stage, there are no entries and exits taking place on Antarctica. The Southernmost continent is on lockdown until further notice (not due to this incident).”

(Dr. Michael Salla) A major hurdle was passed in the creation of a United States Space Force when a Congressional conference committee comprising members of both branches of Congress, meeting to resolve conflicting congressional bills, agreed to the legislative language authorizing its creation. The “National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020”, contains the agreed language for Space Force’s creation, which will be voted on by both houses of Congress, and then signed by President Donald Trump.

The Secretary of the Air Force, Barbara Barrett, issued a statement after the Congressional conference committee gave its approval and said:

We certainly appreciate the hard work and bipartisan support of the Congress and the administration that is bringing a separate service for space closer to reality. We are reviewing the draft legislation and look forward to moving out smartly once legislation is passed by the Congress and signed by the President.

President Trump tweeted his approval of the agreement that had been reached and said he was ready to sign the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that will formally create Space Force.

The House of Representatives was scheduled to vote on the NDAA today, and will be quickly followed by the Senate before being sent to President Trump for his signature to enact it into federal law.

In the NDAA, which is nearly 3500 pages long, the agreed-upon language for Space Force appears under Title IX – Department of Defense Organization and Management.

The Space Force Act re-designates “Air Force Space Command” as the United States Space Force (USSF). Space Force will be located with the Department of the Air Force. This will mirror how the US Marine Corps is embedded within the Department of the Navy but remains a separate military branch to the US Navy.

The composition of Space Force is described as follows:

(b) COMPOSITION.—The Space Force shall be composed of the following:
(1) The Chief of Space Operations.
(2) The space forces and such assets as may be organic therein.

The Chief of Space Operations (CSO) will report directly to the Air Force Secretary and one year after the passage of the Space Force Act will become a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The present head of the U.S. Space Command, General John Raymond, will also be allowed to serve as the CSO of Space Force for the first year of its operations. This will enable Raymond to oversee the smooth transition of Air Force Space Command, which he also currently heads, into the new Space Force.

Antarctica Mystery: Chilean Military Plane Goes Missing

A Chilean military plane mysteriously went missing yesterday, on its way to Antarctica, home to nine different bases.

Seven hours after the plane went missing, the Chilean Air Force declared it a loss, unable to offer any explanation about where it went or what happened.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the 38 crew members and passengers of the FACh (Air Force) C-130 plane,” Chilean President Sebastian Piñera wrote on Twitter.

Weather conditions were favorable when the plane took off from Punta Arenas.

Contact was lost with the plane at 6:13 pm.

According to the Associated Press, The C-130 Hercules carried 17 crew members and 21 passengers.

Three of the passengers were civilians, one 24-year-old who was working on a research project and two others on an undisclosed mission for a private company.

Gen. Eduardo Mosqueira of the Fourth Air Brigade relayed to local media that the search for the plane was underway.

Gen. Mosqueira added that a ship was in the area when the plane went down. And that he has flown several times to the southernmost continent on flights with one of the missing pilots.

While no mention of anything suspicious occurred during the media coverage, several researchers and whistleblowers claim that Antarctica is home to dozens of military bases tasked with advanced Secret Space Program research.

The strange events were observed in 2016 by ANITA, published in the scientific archive arXiv.org.

The ANITA collaboration have reported observation of two anomalous events that appear to be εcr≈0.6 EeV cosmic ray showers emerging from the Earth with exit angles of 27∘ and 35∘, respectively…. Again, whistleblowers claim that these cosmic ray events indicate a pole shift and commensurate solar event dubbed a solar flash or mininova.

Whether or not the missing Chilean plane has anything to do with these mysterious events is unclear.

Weeks after the 2016 cosmic ray emission was reported, John Kerry visited Antarctica in November of that same year, allegedly to learn about climate change.

Researchers continue to ask questions about the strange events taking place in Antarctica.

Nancy Pelosi is racing against the clock to deliver the ultimate stocking full of coal to President Trump – a holiday season impeachment. And as Democrats and Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee wrangle over the size and scope of the articles of impeachment, Bloomberg’s Congressional reporters (who are apparently still talking to high-level sources despite the impending demise of Bloomberg’s entire Washington bureau now that their namesake founder apparently has convinced himself he can win big on Super Tuesday) have brought us an update.

It appears that the articles of impeachment, which could be finalized by the end of this week and put to a vote next week before the start of Congress’s holiday recess, will include two independent articles focusing on abuse of power, and obstruction of Congress.

Committee leaders will reportedly unveil their next steps re: impeachment Tuesday morning at a 9 am press conference on Capitol Hill.

Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler, Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff, Foreign Affairs Chairman Eliot Engel, Financial Services Chairwoman Maxine Waters and Oversight Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney will participate in the hearing, along with Pelosi.

The announcement comes after a hearing where lawyers for Republicans and Democrats presenting their dueling interpretations of witness testimony from the past few weeks (no new information was brought to light on Monday).

Here’s the Democratic position, according to their lawyers…

“The evidence is overwhelming that the president abused his power” by trying to get Ukraine to help his prospects for re-election by announcing an investigation into a political rival, former Vice President Joe Biden,” said Barry Berke, counsel to House Judiciary Democrats.
He and Daniel Goldman, counsel for Democrats on the Intelligence Committee, also cited numerous instances of the Trump administration withholding documents and other evidence sought by Congress in connection with the Ukraine probe.

…and the Republican position.

The panel’s Republican counsel, Steve Castor, reiterated one of the chief defenses of the president that’s been put forward by Trump allies: “The impeachment inquiry’s record is riddled with hearsay, presumptions and speculation.”
He accused Democrats of pursuing an “artificial and arbitrary political deadline” to overturn the 2016 election and impeach Trump’s before the Christmas holiday.

Goldman detailed what he called four “critical” findings from the investigation, according to Dems. All of these points will likely feature prominently in the articles.

Trump used the power of his office to pressure and induce the newly-elected president of Ukraine to interfere in the 2020 presidential election for Trump’s personal and political benefit.
In order to increase the pressure on Ukraine to announce the politically-motivated investigations that the president wanted, he withheld a coveted Oval Office meeting and $391 million of essential military assistance from Ukraine.
Trump’s conduct undermined the U.S. election process and poses an imminent threat to our national security.
Faced with the revelation of his pressure campaign against Ukraine, Trump directed an unprecedented effort to obstruct Congress’ impeachment inquiry into his conduct.

Meanwhile, Republicans insist that the Dems’ impeachment drive was a waste of time because it doesn’t show abuse of power.

Castor accused Democrats of sustaining a months-long quest to find an issue on which to impeach Trump. After Mueller’s investigation didn’t deliver the results they wanted, he said Democrats now are focusing on Trump’s interactions with Ukraine, particularly his July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
“The record in the Democrats’ impeachment inquiry does not show that President Trump abused the power of Congress or obstructed Congress,” Castor said. “To impeach a president who 63 million people voted for over eight lines in a call transcript is baloney.”

Unfortunately, the impeachment hearing blitz has done little to shift public opinion. Poll averages compiled by FiveThirtyEight and RealClear Politics show that Americans are evenly divided with roughly 47% to 48% supporting impeachment and 44% to 45% opposing. Some individual polls have found that more than eight in ten people say their minds are made up.

Though Nadler says he hasn’t yet made a final decision, it looks like evidence from the Mueller probe will be left out of the articles of impeachment by Democrats (probably not a bad idea).

WE ARE Archangel Zadkiel and Lady Amethyst, and we greet you with Love. Today, we wish to discuss the Light of higher consciousness.

A new wave of consciousness is enveloping your planet and those who inhabit it. With each new wave of incoming higher frequency energy, you are invited to expand your awareness and raise your consciousness to a higher level and carry a greater quotient of Light.

The new, higher consciousness carries an intention of highest good. Thoughts are aligned with this intention, and the actions that flow from them carry out this higher purpose.

The illusions of separation and duality do not exist at this higher plane. Souls recognize that they are part of the greater collective that burst forth from the Creator.

They realize that because they are all connected, whatever affects one Being affects everyone. Therefore, their thoughts and actions are in accordance with this understanding and are carefully monitored and considered before being acted upon.

Each thought carries a unit of energy or Light. The emotion that accompanies the thought determines the strength of the energy. A more intense emotion will carry a stronger amount of energy than one that is mild. As each thought is processed with the accompanying emotion, the energy from it ripples out into the dimensions. It is no longer just what affects one individual. It affects many Beings on many levels.

Because of the increased dynamic of influence in this higher dimension of consciousness, you may want to consider looking at your thoughts as possibilities before you attach strong emotions to an idea. You can approach this as an observer or just as you would in a brainstorming session by looking at all options and possible outcomes before becoming entangled in any one possibility. This allows you to control what you are sending out into the dimensions.

When you consider each possibility against the backdrop of highest good, you may find that some possibilities can be eliminated if they do not meet this criteria.

The concept of highest good carries with it other aspects that are part of the Light of higher consciousness. Love and compassion are two closely related ones.

The concept of Love at higher dimensions is considered to be a vibration rather than an emotion. The vibration of Love carries a very high frequency and level of Light. As you bask in the Light of higher consciousness, you naturally feel a connection with all other Beings because you understand at a heart level the concept of Oneness. It is not a forced realization but rather one that flows gently from your heart center. Each time you focus on your heart center and your Divine Spark that resides there, you tune in to this Love. It fills your own Being with its gentle essence and then flows out to others. It is continuously being renewed through your connection to the Creator and the realization that you and all other Beings are part of All That Is.

With the vibration of Love comes compassion. You are able to exhibit an inner and an outer expression of understanding for those around you. Even though you may not have the same beliefs or manifestations of those beliefs, you have an inner knowing that you are all part of the great Creation. Therefore, when you see another person in distress, you can feel compassion for them. You are able to send them Love and understanding for highest good in a non-judgmental way. You realize that they are where they need to be for their path, while you are where you need to be for yours. This allows you to continue on your path while sending compassion to others without judgment.

When you focus on highest good, Love, and compassion, your own frequency rises. You are able to carry a higher quotient of Light. Your Light grows brighter and brighter as your consciousness increases. This occurs naturally as you place your attention on these qualities.

If you find your thoughts drifting to old patterns away from these concepts, you can gently shift your attention back to the higher level ones. Carrying a message of peace and hope for humanity, the Blue Avian extraterrestrial species exists beyond the confines of space and time. It is believed that these creatures have visited Earth for millennia, aiding in the spiritual development of humankind and helping to shift the consciousness of our species for the good of all. Corey Goode is one of the main contactees of the Blue Avians, also known as the Sphere Alliance. According to Corey, they have recently returned to our planetary system.

Their message urges humans to help themselves, stating that ascension can only be reached by humanity solving its own problems.

Mythology
Ra

Blue Avian-like creatures have appeared throughout human mythology. For instance, Ra, the Egyptian god of the sun was pictured as a bird-headed being, as was his accomplice Thoth. Ra was believed to represent the noon day sun; he was considered the creator of the seasons, months, plants and animals. He was most often depicted as humanoid with the head of a blue eagle, wearing a crown with the solar disk, a serpent coiled around its circumference.
Thoth

Ra was accompanied by Thoth upon his solar barge, carrying the sun across the sky each day and laying it to rest at night. Thoth was an integral god within Egyptian mythology, maintaining the universe, solving disputes, and developing systems of writing, magic and science. He is pictured as an Ibis-headed man.
Abgal

Many other world cultures have myths of bird-headed beings, including the Sumerian god Abgal. This ancient god was said to have given humanity it first moral code, as well as the arts and crafts important in Sumerian culture.
Eagle Kachina

Within Hopi beliefs, the Eagle Kachina is the messenger spirit between humans and the Creator.
Garuda

In the Hindu religion, Garuda is a divine being with the head and wings of an eagle. He is said to be the sworn enemy of the Naga serpent race, and is the steed of the god Vishnu.
Characteristics
Physical Characteristics

Perhaps the most striking aspect of the Blue Avians is their higher density and extradimensional abilities. While these beings do appear physically as blue, bird-like creatures, this is only one aspect of their dimensional nature, perhaps adopted to bring comfort to beings within our density. When they do choose to materialize in physical space, they appear as humanoid creatures with bird-like heads, beaks and blue feathers.
Modes of Transportation

Blue Avians have ascended from our current level of reality into the sixth to ninth densities, traveling at will across the universe.

According to Goode, they do not use space craft as we understand them, but do utilize some devices such as the Spheres which have been dispatched to protect our planet.
Communication Methods

The Blue Avians primarily communicate using telepathy, and often initiate contact with humans via dream. Goode claims that these creatures also use a form of sign language, and have created a secret greeting that they teach contactees to verify a truthful Blue Avian connection. Although some claim to have received channeled messages from the Blue Avians, Corey Goode refutes this possibility, stating that these entities have chosen not to communicate using this method, due to the interference from other extraterrestrial intelligences.
Abilities

These beings are thought to possess telekinetic powers, due to their existence outside of physical reality. Goode also states that they use light physical touch as a form of communication to induce positive physical and emotional response.
Intentions on Earth

Unlike many other alien species, the Blue Avians are not associated with any sort of abduction scenario, and only initiate contact with those open and willing to communicate.

They have only recently resumed their relationship with humans as a means of delivering their message of peaceful ascension, urging mankind to raise their vibration by being of service to others.

While the Blue Avians are currently acting as a buffer between our ascension and negative ETs and human interests, they choose to practice physical non-interference with our species. According to David Wilcock, the Blue Avian system of beliefs is similar to the Law of One. Their level of intelligence has transcended physical limitations and duality, and they act as a single intelligent entity. They have returned to right their past direct attempts to aid humanity, which at the previous times of contact were distorted by our species interpretation of their arrival.

Corey Goode states that the Blue Avians have once again returned to our planetary system to help with this ascension, urging us to free ourselves from the clutches of negative human and ET entities. Since Goode reintroduced these extra dimensional beings to modern popular UFO circles, backlash and disinformation campaigns have been severe.

Yet the statement of these beings is simple and direct: be of service to one another, focus on love and forgiveness, and change humanity for the better one person at a time, starting with yourself.

This is message is not new. These are the basic tenants of most religious and spiritual practices on planet Earth. The Sphere Alliance also warns against gurus and messiahs, stating that each human must take control of their own actions for the human species to truly ascend.

The legislation passed 24 to 10, reports CNBC. According to reports, it has a high chance of approval in the House where Democrats control the chamber with 234 seats. The bill will undoubtedly face scrutiny in the Republican-controlled Senate — particularly by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, an outspoken opponent of marijuana legalization.

The legislation allows states to enact their own policies on cannabis, as well as offers incentive to clear criminal records of people with low-level marijuana charges. The bill includes a 5% tax on cannabis products that would provide job training and legal assistance to those most affected by the war on drugs.

Over 100 peer-reviewed studies have concluded that components of the herb, primarily CBD, have the potential to remedy dozens of modern-day afflictions. In addition, the US National Cancer Institute lists cannabis as a potential remedy for cancer on its website. Despite the plethora of evidence that herb has medicinal properties, marijuana arrests account for more than half of all drug arrests in the US, according to the American Civil Liberties Union.

On Wednesday, lawmakers repeatedly cited the disproportionate impact drug laws have had on communities of color. By decriminalizing marijuana, they said, the imbalance is somewhat alleviated.

“The criminalization of marijuana has been a mistake,” said Chairman Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., during the markup of the bill. “The racial disparity in marijuana enforcement laws only compounded this mistake with serious consequences, particularly for minority communities.”

The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML), has called the legislation the “biggest marijuana news of the year.” The bill has over 50 co-sponsors, according to Congress.gov. It also has the backing of presidential contender Sen Kamala Harris.

Only 11 states in the US and District of Columbia have legalized cannabis for recreational use. 33 states, on the other hand, have welcomed medical marijuana as prescribed by physicians. This monumental news follows House-passed legislation that would protect banks that serve marijuana businesses in states where the crop is legal.

A congressional committee reportedly plans to vote on a bill this week that would end the federal prohibition of marijuana.

The Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act, sponsored by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), would remove cannabis from the Controlled Substances Act (CSA). But that is not all. It would go one step further and seek to undo the horrific damage caused by the state’s war on this plant.

According to the legislation, the act would:

provide for expungement and resentencing of prior convictions and prevent federal agencies from using cannabis as a reason to deny access to benefits or citizenship status for immigrants.
It would also impose a five percent federal tax on the sales of marijuana products. Some of that revenue would be directed toward a new Opportunity Trust Fund aimed at supporting grant programs to provide job training and legal aid for people impacted by prohibition enforcement, loans for small marijuana businesses owned and controlled by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals and efforts to minimize barriers to licensing and employment in the legal industry. Some of these efforts would be run through a new Cannabis Justice Office in the Department of Justice.

The bill currently has 55 cosponsors. Showing the partisan divide when it comes to legalizing this plant, all but one of the cosponsors are Democrats. Sadly, most of the “small government” Republicans still think massive militarized police forces kicking in doors in the middle of the night to arrest people for a plant is “conservative.”

According to Forbes, Wednesday’s planned Judiciary Committee vote on the far-reaching cannabis reform legislation is expected to be announced on Monday.

The monumental nature of this bill cannot be understated. The good that it could do — not simply by legalizing weed — by by reversing the damage caused by the war on marijuana, is immeasurable.

Starting with Colorado and Washington in 2012, the government’s immoral, violent, and destructive war on marijuana began to come to a grinding halt. Although measures for medical marijuana were enacted long before this, complete legalization paved the way for a revolution.

Sadly, however, despite this revolution, millions of people whose lives were ruined from weed arrests, are still carrying around these convictions on their permanent records, drastically stifling their career and home buying opportunities. Once those within the system began to realize this, measures were taken to help these folks clean up their records. States across the country have been setting out to undo this damage, but it hasn’t been fast enough. This bill could change that.

But that’s not all it would do. Legalizing marijuana would also have a massive potential to curb the opioid crisis currently gripping the nation.

As TFTP previously reported, in a study published in a peer-reviewed journal, Melvin D. Livingston, Tracey E. Barnett, Chris Delcher, and Alexander C. Wagenaar, set out to see if any association existed between Colorado’s legalization of marijuana and opioid-related deaths in the state.

The researchers looked at all of the available data from the year 2000 to the year 2015. What they discovered may come as a shock to many. While the rest of the nation struggles with a burgeoning fatal opioid and heroin overdose crisis, the State of Colorado saw opioid deaths reduced while its population exploded.

It has long been stated that cannabis is a “gateway” drug, which leads users to experiment with other drugs, leading up to the most deadly, such as heroin. But the researchers in the study published in the American Journal of Public Health found that the availability of safe and legal cannabis actually reduced opiate deaths:

“Colorado’s legalization of recreational cannabis sales and use resulted in a 0.7 deaths per month…reduction in opioid-related deaths. This reduction represents a reversal of the upward trend in opioid-related deaths in Colorado.”
The researchers concluded, “Legalization of cannabis in Colorado was associated with short-term reductions in opioid-related deaths.”

It’s not just that study either. There were other studies showing that deaths from opioids plummet in states with legal cannabis, and that 80 percent of cannabis users give up prescription pills. A Feb. 2017 study confirmed that opioid dependence and overdoses dropped significantly in medical cannabis states.

In January 2017, the National Academies of Science published an exhaustive review of the scientific literature and found that one of the most promising areas in medical cannabis is for the treatment of chronic pain.

As TFTP reported in 2017, a new experimental study showed exactly how cannabis works to treat actual opioid addiction – by actually blocking the opioid reward in the brain.

“This study sought to determine whether the cannabis constituent cannabidiol attenuates the development of morphine reward in the conditioned place preference paradigm. Separate groups of mice received either saline or morphine in combination with one of four doses of cannabidiol using three sets of drug/no-drug conditioning trials. After drug-place conditioning, morphine mice displayed robust place preference that was attenuated by 10 mg/kg cannabidiol. Further, when administered alone, this dose of cannabidiol was void of rewarding and aversive properties. The finding that cannabidiol blocks opioid reward suggests that this compound may be useful in addiction treatment settings.”

Those who continue denying the evidence, while continuing to lock people in cages for a plant, will ultimately be judged by history. They will not be the heroes they claim to be now. They will be remembered as the ones responsible for mass incarceration, fostering the police state, and dealing a near-death blow to freedom.
