Well let's see if you can induce this while in a meditative state, right? Try that.
And if you get the chance at all, try taking control of the situation when you encounter it. Then try asking who or whatever it is who or what they are. "Assert" you energy, as it were. See if you can prolong it, and see if you can explore the state that is. Try not to be too scared.

That could be a multitude of things.
Someone could have been injecting thoughts into your mind.
You temporarily dropped "out of phase" into another realm.
You temporarily dropped all other conscious activities of your physical body and somehow was able to pick up on thought signals.
You tricked your body into being asleep and you fell out of your body into another realm.
Those are some possibilities.
