Groundbreaking new research has linked sodium fluoride to cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death worldwide. Researchers found that fluoride consumption directly stimulates the hardening of your arteries, a condition known as atherosclerosis that is highly correlatedwith the #1 killer. Sodium fluoride is currently added to the water supply of many cities worldwide, despite extreme opposition from health professionals and previous studies linking it to decreased IQ  and infertility.

In their research, scientists examined the relationship between fluoride intake and the hardening (calcification) of the arteries. Studying more than 60 patients, the researchers found a significant correlation between fluoride consumption and the calcification of your arteries. Published in the January edition of the journal Nuclear Medicine Communications, the research highlights the fact that mass fluoride exposure may be to blame for the cardiovascular disease epidemic that takes more lives each year than cancer. In 2008, cardiovascular killed 17 million people.

 

According to the authors of the study:“The coronary fluoride uptake value in patients with cardiovascular events was significantly higher than in patients without cardiovascular events.”

Amazingly, this is not the first report to come out on the dangers of water fluoridation, however the United States government along with other nations have allowed for the continued fluoridation of the public water supply despite these key findings. In fact, the U.S. government has even gone on record stating that a reduction in water fluoridation needs to occur following the results of a massive study that found water fluoridation affected cognitive function to the point of lowering the IQ of children. It turns out that the announcement was little more than a public relations stunt to curtail the massive wave of activism that followed the findings.

Government Admits Dangers Yet Continues to Pump Fluoride Into Your Water Supply Over 24 other studies have unanimously concluded that fluoride negatively impacts cognitive function. In addition to these 24 studies focusing on cognition, over 100 animal studies have linked fluoride to an increase in male infertility, diabetes, and a whole host of other health problems. In the latest study on cognition, it was found that that 28% of the children who lived in an area where fluoride levels were low achieved the highest test scores. This means that the children exposed to less fluoride scored normal or advanced, while only 8% of fluoridated children did the same.

CDC caught in West Nile virus fear mongering campaign; mass chemical spraying WORSE than mosquitoes

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is currently engaged in a massive fear mongering campaign that would have everyone in America believe that the so-called West Nile virus (WNv) is spreading uncontrollably like wildfire. Though the CDC admits that only a miniscule percentage of people have even a remote chance of contracting the virus, the agency is still pushing for the mass spraying of cities with toxic pesticides, and actively encouraging people to coat themselves in toxic DEET chemicals to deter mosquitoes.

We recently reported on the misguided efforts of Texas officials to blanket Dallas-area towns and cities with cancer-causing “neuropoisons” as a solution to the supposed WNv crisis (http://www.naturalnews.com), despite the fact that only a few individuals, who were presumably already immunocompromised, died across the state. Now, the agency is continuing its scare campaign by pushing people everywhere to spray their bodies with DEET bug spray, which is potentially even more dangerous that contracting WNv.

DEET can damage the human nervous system

DEET, which is known chemically as N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide, is an insect repellant chemical that was originally developed by the U.S. Army back in 1946, and later made available to consumers in 1957. It is widely used today as the active ingredient in conventional mosquito repellant sprays, and is claimed by many to be a safe, behavior-modifying chemical that does not interfere with human health in any way.

But a 2010 study published in the journal BioMed Central Biology reveals that DEET actually appears to repel mosquitoes and other insects by interfering with the normal function of their nervous systems, rather than just modifying their behavior. Specifically, DEET appears to inhibit a key neurological enzyme, acetylcholinesterase, which is a precursor to the neurotransmitter substance acetylcholine. This inhibiting effect is similar to the one brought about by exposure to toxic nerve gases, or organophosphate insecticides. (http://www.naturalnews.com/029136_deet_toxic.html)

What this means is that the human nervous system is susceptible to neurological damage from DEET exposure as well, which in more extreme cases can mean permanent brain damage or even death. In other words, encouraging the masses to spray themselves with DEET to protect against WNv is akin to telling a person who works in a battery acid factory to preemptively expose himself to equally dangerous neutralizing chemicals just in case he happens to come in contact with the acid chemicals.

Why isn’t the CDC encouraging people to eat immune-boosting superfoods and supplements in order to naturally avoid WNv?

All this sky-spraying and body-spraying advice by the CDC completely neglects any recommendation to the public to actually try to boost their own natural immune systems to avoid WNv infection. A recent CDCannouncement put out by CNNexplains that only one in 500 mosquitoes is even infected with WNv, and 80 percent of people who get bitten by an infected mosquito will not show any visible symptoms or become sick in any way.

Among the 20 percent that do show symptoms, only about one half of one percent will develop anything close to severe symptoms, and most of these individuals will be over 50 years of age and have already weakened immune systems. When computed statistically, this translates into a virtually zero percent chance that the average person will experience any health problems associated with WNv, should they be among the miniscule few that even contract it in the first place.

Rather than endorse the dousing of the entire population in health-destroying pesticide chemicals and bug sprays, the CDC should instead be advising people to simply fortify their bodies with immune-boosting superfoods like cruciferous vegetables, omega-3 foods and oils, vitamin D, spirulina, and others, which would help naturally prevent WNv infection from gaining hold and manifesting symptoms.

West Nile Virus “Outbreak” Justifies Spraying Toxic Chemicals onto Citizens

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) state that the cases of West Nile virus (WNV) are raising to the point of having the largest outbreak ever seen in the domestic US. In total, the CDC is reporting 1,118 cases with 41 deaths attributed.

Yet the CDC claims that most bitten by an infected mosquito do not come down with WNV. It appears the governmental agency fear-mongers and downplays the threat in the same breath.

Dr. Lyle Petersen, the director of the CDC’s Vector-Borne Infectious Disease Division confirmed:

The peak of West Nile virus epidemics usually occur in mid-August, but it takes a couple of weeks for people to get sick, go to the doctor and get reported. Thus we expect many more cases to occur.

The Connecticut Mosquito Management Program asserts that because the mosquitos carrying WNV are one an estimated 1 in 500 which would point the attribution of the infected to another source.

The areas of the country where the most cases have been reported are Texas, South Dakota, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Michigan. Petersen believes that “we think the reported numbers will get higher through October.”

Fifty-six percent of the reported cases correlate with a neuroinvasive disease wherein the WNV enters the nervous system directly causing the manifestation of meningitis or encephalitis.

In response to the “national outbreak” of WNV, there have been concerted efforts to step up the aerial assault of spraying to eradicate the disease. This spraying, to kill the mosquito population is causingviable damage to the humans and the environment which is most likely the reason for calling the WNV outbreaks a sorted epidemic.

The US government has been involved in creating designer viruses onto unwitting populations that have been the obvious causation of viral epidemics. In response to WNV and a burgeoning mosquito population in 2000, the spraying of malathione began. The result was a massive attack on the human immune system from the toxic chemical.

As the WNV “outbreak” is being hyped in the mainstream media now, the use of malathione is again being utilized. However, this chemical use is tantamount to bioterrorism on the American public. Malathione is a cancer-causing toxic substance that has been sprayed over-head in the name of keeping the WNV from continuing to spread.

Governmental propaganda extends to WNV outbreaks being initiated by suspected Middle Eastern “terrorists” according to Congressional record. In a 2002 Congressional testimony, Dr. Leonard Horowitz, said that the makers of WNV vaccines were suspect as participating in public outbreaks.

By combining CDC reports, with the documentation of pharmaceutical corporations, and bioweapons laboratories that supplied vials of WNV to Iraq in the 1980s, the movement of the bioweapon has been traced.

The Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) has conducted extensive research and development into bioterrorism since 1986. The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) believes that the CIGB is a biological weapons laboratory. Because the CIGB was located in Cuba, the Castro connection and classification of Cuba as a terrorist nation then creeps into the American social meme.

The aerial response to the current WNV outbreak involves the chemical Duet which is an “advanced dual-action mosquito adulticide” that is combined with Anvil, another mosquito pesticide, as well as prallethrin. The purpose of these chemicals is because of their neurotoxic properties and damaging effects on the human immune system. They also are associated with organ failure, as well as dangerously carcinogenic as they have been linked to breast cancer.

CDC: 10,000 at risk of hantavirus in Yosemite outbreak ??

At least five hantavirus infections have been linked to the tent cabins in Yosemite's Curry Village.

About 10,000 people who stayed in tent cabins at Yosemite National Park over the summer may be at risk for hantavirus, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Friday in a health advisory. 

"People who stayed in the tents between June 10 and Aug. 24 may be at risk of developing (hantavirus) in the next six weeks," the CDC said in the release.

Earlier, two more Yosemite National Park visitors were found with a mouse-borne virus blamed for the deaths of two people, bringing the total number of infections to six, state health officials said.

 

The new discoveries were made during the agency's investigation into cases of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome at the famed park, California Department of Public Health Anita Gore spokeswoman said.

The infections spurred park officials to close 91 tent cabins at Curry Village in Yosemite Valley, where five of the six infections occurred. Gore said one of the infected people may have been in another area of the park.

"Our investigation is trying to determine which area of the park that person visited," she said.

Over the past three weeks, two people have died of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome after staying in cabins at Curry Village in Yosemite Valley.

Park officials said the double-walled design of the cabins that were closed Tuesday made it easy for mice to nest between the walls. The disease is carried in the feces, urine and saliva of deer mice and other rodents.

The illness begins as flu-like symptoms, including including headache, fever, muscle ache, shortness of breath and cough. Initial symptoms may appear up to six weeks after exposure and can lead to severe breathing difficulties and death.  

Although there is no cure for hantavirus, treatment after early detection through blood tests can save lives. The virus, which has never been known to be transmitted between humans, kills 38 percent of those it infects.

"The earlier it's caught and supportive care is given, the better the survival rate," said Dr. Vicki Kramer, chief of vector-borne diseases at the state Public Health Department.

Dr. Charles Chiu, an infectious disease specialist at the University of California, San Francisco, said he made a habit of airing out his tent-cabin before occupying it as a precaution against possible virus-carrying dust particles when he stayed in Curry Village a few years ago.

But even Chiu said he was surprised to learn that a hantavirus had killed two people and stricken others who slept in the same structures this summer.

"It wasn't something even I had thought of at the time," Chiu, who studies hantavirus, told Reuters.

Five of the people who fell ill are known to have stayed in the tent cabins in June or July, and warnings have gone out to visitors who stayed in Curry Village in June, July or August.

The hantavirus outbreak occurred despite efforts by park officials to step up protection efforts last April. A 2010 report from the state health department warned park officials that rodent inspection efforts should be increased after a visitor to the Tuolumne Meadows area of the park fell ill.

The new hantavirus policy, enacted April 25, was designed to provide a safe place, "free from recognized hazards that may cause serious physical harm or death."

It came after the state report revealed that 18 percent of mice trapped for testing at various locations around the park were positive for hantavirus.

 

 

"Inspections for rodent infestations and appropriate exclusion efforts, particularly for buildings where people sleep, should be enhanced," it said.

Melanie Norall of Palo Alto, California, is monitoring her 8-year-old daughter's every sniffle. They stayed in a cabin outside Yosemite's north entrance at the end of July and awoke to mice scurrying and eating nuts out of their luggage.

In 2009, the park installed the 91 new, higher-end cabins to replace some that had been closed or damaged after parts of Curry Village, which sits below the 3,000-foot Glacier Point promontory, were determined to be in a rock-fall hazard zone.

The new cabins have canvas exteriors and drywall or plywood inside, with insulation in between. Park officials found this week when they tried to shore up some of the cabins that mice had built nests in the walls.

The deer mice most prone to carrying the virus can squeeze through holes just one-quarter-inch in diameter. They are distinguished from solid-colored house mice by their white bellies and gray and brown bodies.

The park sent warning emails and letters Wednesday to another 1,000 people who stayed in tent cabins, after officials found that a computer glitch had stopped the notices from going out with the original 1,700 warnings Monday. The warning says anyone with flu-like symptoms or respiratory problems should seek immediate medical attention.

In 2011, half of the 24 U.S. hantavirus cases ended in death. But since 1993, when the virus first was identified, the average death rate is 36.39 percent, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

The vast majority of hantavirus victims are young and middle-age adults, Chiu said, probably because they are mostly likely to engage in activities that would readily expose them, such as chopping and carrying fire wood or sweeping the floors.

"The message should not be you should stop camping. The important thing is general awareness of this disease and to avoid wild rodents in general," Chiu said.

This means the attack is on. Gates intends to do a surveillance operation across the Internet and locate anti-vaccine advocates. His minions will then undertake a counter-insurgency campaign to neutralize them.

How does such an operation work? I’ll tell you how it works: “This writer has no medical credentials.” “This writer is spreading dangerous information that will harm children.” “This filmmaker tells lies about the most important medical technology the world has ever seen.” “The evidence for vaccination is overwhelming, and this writer is operating out of the Dark Ages.”

        And that’s just the nice stuff;

“This writer was once an MD, but it’s been said he gave up his practice after several patients made complaints to the medical board. Now he spends all his time attacking vaccines. He’s a criminal menace.”

“Don’t read anything by this writer. He’s obviously mentally ill. He wants you to stop vaccinating your children, so they can catch life-threatening diseases.”

And it will go downhill and get nastier from there.

This is Nixon’s dirty-tricks war all over again. But instead of having a few million dollars in a slush fund, Gates has billions at his disposal.

He’s going to use surrogates to do his work for him, so it will be difficult, in many cases, to know where the attacks are coming from. That’s how cowards operate. They slink around behind the scenes and let other people do the heavy lifting.

The last thing they want is an honest and open debate about the issue itself. That would expose them. The truth would expose them.

Gates is obviously out to create an atmosphere and set a tone for legislation that would make vaccination mandatory everywhere, with no exemptions allowed. That’s what he’s shooting for. That’s his wet dream, the one that goes hand in glove with depopulation, his mountaintop desire.

The press, as always, will be on his side. They were on his side by giving short shrift to the explosive story out of India, where 47,000 cases of paralysis were caused by his polio vaccine.

He intends to create his very own Surveillance State, in which the targets are all Internet reporters and groups that have dug up the real facts about vaccines. The facts the medical cartel wants to hide in their vaults: vaccine deaths, paralysis, maiming, brain damage, autism, immune dysfunction…

He wants to create a chilling effect, for those who are thinking about covering the vaccine issue honestly.

Well, here’s a newsflash. Those facts are already out there, on thousands and thousands of sites. The horse left the barn years ago.

He’s late to the party, but he’s going to throw a lot of money at the problem. Essentially, he’s opting for suppression of accurate journalism. Like so many before him, once he wrangled his fortune in the free market (?), he turned around and realized he didn’t want a semblance of freedom anymore. He only wanted control.

Those of us who have been writing and speaking about vaccines for years would love to go up against Gates’ medical doctors in an open debate. Nothing would please us more. But Bill doesn’t want that. People like him are terrified of openness. So be it.

He can take the low road. He’ll only induce more opposition. That’s the way his style of attack works. People who were asleep will wake up, once they realize he’s just another puffy Marmaduke who, when he doesn’t like the game, decides to take his bat and ball and go home.

And he will go home.

Fluoride-pushing doctors and dentists who try to contaminate your water supply with fluoride are promoting their deadly agenda with a clever lie… a lie you will see obediently repeated in every fluoride push. Here’s how it sounds:

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral in the water. Our city’s water is unfortunate enough to have a low level, so we are simply adjusting the fluoride in the water to its optimum levels to improve public health.

This lie is repeated almost verbatim, across every city that seeks to poison its citizens with fluoride. Why is it a lie? Here are the five false deceptions found embedded in the statement:

Deception #1) The fluoride ADDED to the water is not “naturally occurring fluoride.” It’s a chemical byproduct often purchased from chemical plants in China (see below).

Deception #2) The false idea that ingesting fluoride is somehow good for your teeth. At best, fluoride is a topical treatment which should be swished around your mouth and then spat out. And that’s only if it’s truly natural (mineral) fluoride, not the fluosilicic acid toxins being pushed as fluoride.

Deception #3) What cities call “fluoride” is actually a toxic cocktail of over 100 deadly industrial chemicals and heavy metals, many of which are purchased in bulk from China, where industrial processing plants are trying to get rid of their excess toxic waste by labeling it “sodium fluoride.”

This action is the most difficult process you can aspire to.

 

It is fraught with difficulties, for in forgiveness there is the realization that all is well – that the plan is perfect, and that the Universe does not make mistakes.

 

 

 

 ALL EXPERIENCES ARE OFFERINGS OF CHOICE

 

When you look at the pain that you have carried, and you see it slipping away, you have realized that all experiences are ultimately offerings of choice.

 

But, no matter how difficult it may seem to choose otherwise, there is always an option in which any given experience can be released back to the Universe as perfection in that moment.

 

You need not be concerned about the eventual outcome of what has transpired, for you can rest easily in the notion that once you have attained true freedom of spirit in this manner, those seeming bumps in the road will smooth out.

 The losses that you have faced will suddenly be reversed.

 

And the glory of life will be elevated to levels you may have thought impossible at any point in the past.

 

 

 

 REVEALING THE MYSTERY

 

The beveled edges of the placards of honor upon your world are chipping and crumbling away.

It may seem that a catatonic Utopia of harmony would suit you quite nicely.

 

But look at the dynamic activity that is created by sorrow, and by difficulty.

You have all the answers.

 YOU CAN ACHIEVE EVERYTHING AVAILABLE TO THE GREATEST TEACHERS

 

You may look up to certain people, or to certain religious figures, as the stars of the show – and wish that you could attain that which they have achieved.

 

Bear in mind that this is a bondage that can hold you in duality.

 

For all the greatest teachers have told you that you too can attain that which they are.

 

 

 

 And it is available in a moment.

 

This point may seem repetitive to you, within the constructs of the words we are now articulating – but the repetition is intended only as a catalyst to trigger the deep keys of awakening that reside within you.

 

 WE WISH TO ILLUMINATE THE PATHWAYS OF THE MIND

 

You need not listen to these words to understand them.

 

We are not trying to present ourselves as an authority.

 

We merely wish to illuminate the pathways of the mind so that you can more quickly make those decisions that will bring you to the goal.

The offering of love is the fulfillment of the path.

It may seem that certain irritants have rubbed against your skin so long that those wounds are gaping – and can never be healed.

 

But let me reassure you that what you are now going through is a healing process.

 

In some cases, that healing process can be quite difficult.

If a boil has formed upon the skin, it must be lanced.

 

The toxic materials within that boil must burst forth.

I request that you not indulge in the fear-mongering that is so rampant in the minds of your peoples.

 

 

 

 Some could take the thought concepts I just placed before you, regarding the boil, and assume there is a hidden subtext in which I am saying that great disasters will befall you that will cause tremendous, cataclysmic loss of life.

 Nothing could be further from the truth.

 

 THE NEGATIVE FORCES HAVE FAILED TO ACHIEVE THEIR GOALS

 

I ask that these words, though metaphorical in nature, not be misinterpreted.

 

For we are doing our best, within our level of this grand illusion, to insure that you move through this process as smoothly as possible.

 

Those negative forces within your plane of existence have worked diligently to attempt to create martial law, internment camps, and global tyranny.

 And yet, they have failed.

 Those who continue to insist that these plans are on track have failed to see the obvious that is before them.

Many, many people are upset that now Greg is advocating violence on his channelled blogs. This must stop! Not only does it hurt this site and its repatation, but also the new ones and younglings. Those newly awakened light workers, who don't really understand what is going on. This is unfair for them to be pulled in the wrong direction by him and others like him, such as Raheem and Drake. I know this is an open forum but sometimes it has its draw backs and this is one of them. Some other forums has already banned him, such as lightworkers.org and 2012 Scenario. You don't have to believe me, just read some of those comments and see for yourself, its almost 100% against him. One of the most thrilling memories of the 2012 campaign was the sight of those huge crowds who came out to see Ron. His competitors, meanwhile, couldn’t fill half a Starbucks. When I worked as Ron’s chief of staff in the late 1970s and early 1980s, I could only dream of such a day.

Now what was it that attracted all these people to Ron Paul? He didn’t offer his followers a spot on the federal gravy train. He didn’t pass some phony bill. In fact, he didn’t do any of the things we associate with politicians. What his supporters love about him has nothing to do with politics at all.

Ron is the anti-politician. He tells unfashionable truths, educates rather than flatters the public, and stands up for principle even when the whole world is arrayed against him.

Some people say, “I love Ron Paul, except for his foreign policy.” But that foreign policy reflects the best and most heroic part of who Ron Paul is. Peace is the linchpin of the Paulian program, not an extraneous or dispensable adjunct to it. He would never and could never abandon it.

Here was the issue Ron could have avoided had he cared only for personal advancement.

But he refused. No matter how many times he’s been urged to keep his mouth shut about war and empire, these have remained the centerpieces of his speeches and interviews.

Of course, Ron Paul deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. In a just world, he would also win the Medal of Freedom, and all the honors for which a man in his position is eligible.

But history is littered with forgotten politicians who earned piles of awards handed out by other politicians. What matters to Ron more than all the honors and ceremonies in the world is all of you, and your commitment to the immortal ideas he has championed all his life.

'A less polar pole': Arctic sea ice at record low

The amount of summer sea ice in the Arctic has reached a record low in three decades of satellite data, scientists reported Tuesday, with one of them describing recent warm years there as creating a "less polar pole." The decline was expected to continue for at least several more days before cold weather sets in and creates new ice through fall and winter.

 

The area of Arctic waters covered by sea ice was measured at 1.58 million square miles on Sunday, the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) reported. That's below the previous record low of 1.61 million square miles set on Sept. 18, 2007, and in line with earlier expectations for the season.

"Including this year, the six lowest extents in the satellite record have occurred in the last six years,"the center noted on its website.

 

"Parts of the Arctic have become like a giant Slushee this time of year" due to thinning ice, Walt Meier, a scientist at the center, told reporters.

That thinner ice also explains how a storm in early August made a significant impact in speeding up the decline this month, Meier said.

At NASA, which helps with the satellite data, scientist Claire Parkinson said the trend has been "strongly downward."

The 2007 decrease "stunned" researchers since it was so large compared to previous years, she said, and "this year it's plummeting" further.

It's not just sea ice in summer that's been weakened, she added. "No matter what month you're in, it's less ice than it used to be decades ago," she said.

The researchers added that manmade emissions tied to global warming offer the best explanation for the decline.

Ted Scambos, a senior NSIDC researcher, told NBC News that no one weather pattern explains the downward trend. "Greenhouse gasses are the only consistent explanation for a persistently warming Arctic," he added.

"The Arctic was our refrigerator," he said, but the warmer weather of the last five or six years have meant "a less polar pole."

Scambos said the Arctic system is too variable to guarantee that each future year would show a decline, but over time he expects the decline to continue. "I think we can expect further declines to new records," he said, "and eventually, an ice-free North Pole."

 

Top Economists: Iceland Did It Right … And Everyone Else Is Doing It Wrong

Nobel prize winning economist Joe Stiglitz notes:

What Iceland did was right. It would have been wrong to burden future generations with the mistakes of the financial system.

Nobel prize winning economist Paul Krugman writes:

What [Iceland's recovery] demonstrated was the … case for letting creditors of private banks gone wild eat the losses.

Krugman also says:

A funny thing happened on the way to economic Armageddon: Iceland’s very desperation made conventional behavior impossible, freeing the nation to break the rules.Where everyone else bailed out the bankers and made the public pay the price, Iceland let the banks go bust and actually expanded its social safety net. Where everyone else was fixated on trying to placate international investors, Iceland imposed temporary controls on the movement of capital to give itself room to maneuver.

Krugman is right.  Letting the banks go bust – instead of perpetually bailing them out – is the right way to go.

Iceland told the banks to pound sand. And Iceland’s economy is doing much better than virtually all of the countries which have let the banks push them around.

Bloomberg reports:

Iceland holds some key lessons for nations trying to survive bailouts after the island’s approach to its rescue led to a “surprisingly” strong recovery, the International Monetary Fund’s mission chief to the country said.

Iceland’s commitment to its program, a decision to push losses on to bondholders instead of taxpayers and the safeguarding of a welfare system that shielded the unemployed from penury helped propel the nation from collapse toward recovery, according to the Washington-based fund.

Iceland refused to protect creditors in its banks, which failed in 2008 after their debts bloated to 10 times the size of the economy.

The IMF’s point about bondholders is an important one:  the failure to force a haircut on the bondholders is dooming the U.S. and Europe to economic doldrums.

The IMF notes:

[The] decision not to make taxpayers liable for bank losses was right, economists say.

In other words, as IMF put it:

Key to Iceland’s recovery was [a] program [which] sought to ensure that the restructuring of the banks would not require Icelandic taxpayers to shoulder excessive private sector losses.

Icenews points out:

Experts continue to praise Iceland’s recovery success after the country’s bank bailouts of 2008.

Unlike the US and several countries in the eurozone, Iceland allowed its banking system to fail in the global economic downturn and put the burden on the industry’s creditors rather than taxpayers.

The rebound continues to wow officials, including International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde, who recently referred to the Icelandic recovery as “impressive”. And experts continue to reiterate that European officials should look to Iceland for lessons regarding austerity measures and similar issues.

Barry Ritholtz noted last year:

Rather than bailout the banks — Iceland could not have done so even if they wanted to — they guaranteed deposits (the way our FDIC does), and let the normal capitalistic process of failure run its course.

They are now much much better for it than the countries like the US and Ireland who did not.

Bloomberg pointed out February 2011:

Unlike other nations, including the U.S. and Ireland, which injected billions of dollars of capital into their financial institutions to keep them afloat, Iceland placed its biggest lenders in receivership. It chose not to protect creditors of the country’s banks, whose assets had ballooned to $209 billion, 11 times gross domestic product.

“Iceland did the right thing … creditors, not the taxpayers, shouldered the losses of banks,” says Nobel laureate Joseph Stiglitz, an economics professor at Columbia University in New York. “Ireland’s done all the wrong things, on the other hand. That’s probably the worst model.”

Ireland guaranteed all the liabilities of its banks when they ran into trouble and has been injecting capital — 46 billion euros ($64 billion) so far — to prop them up. That brought the country to the brink of ruin, forcing it to accept a rescue package from the European Union in December.

Countries with larger banking systems can follow Iceland’s example, says Adriaan van der Knaap, a managing director at UBS AG.

“It wouldn’t upset the financial system,” says Van der Knaap, who has advised Iceland’s bank resolution committees.

Arni Pall Arnason, 44, Iceland’s minister of economic affairs, says the decision to make debt holders share the pain saved the country’s future.

“If we’d guaranteed all the banks’ liabilities, we’d be in the same situation as Ireland,” says Arnason, whose Social Democratic Alliance was a junior coalition partner in the Haarde government.

“In the beginning, banks and other financial institutions in Europe were telling us, ‘Never again will we lend to you,’” Einarsdottir says. “Then it was 10 years, then 5. Now they say they might soon be ready to lend again.”

And Iceland’s prosecution of white collar fraud played a big part in its recovery:

[The U.S. and Europe have thwarted white collar fraud investigations ... let alone prosecutions.] On the other hand, Iceland has prosecuted the fraudster bank heads (andhereand here) and their former prime minister, and their economy is recovering nicely … because trust is being restored in the financial system.

Over 2,500 DHS employees and co-conspirators have been convicted of crimes in the past eight years, according to federal audit.

It is often said that when an agency or department is failing, it’s because there is a failure at the top, that there is something wrong with the leadership. Nowhere is that more evident than at the beleaguered Department of Homeland Security where, under the tutelage of former Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, an agency with an already dubious resume has gone from bad to worse to despicable.

A new federal audit of the monstrous agency, created in the heat and passion of the moment in the weeks following the 9/11 attacks, 2,527 DHS employees and co-conspirators have been convicted of either being corrupt or engaging in outright criminality since 2004, CNSNews.com reported, citing written testimony submitted to Congress recently by the department’s inspector general, Charles Edwards.

During his Aug. 1 testimony before the House Oversight and Government Reform’s subcommittee on Government Organization, Efficiency, and Financial Management, Edwards told lawmakers that, as of July 15, his office was dealing with 1,591 open criminal cases involving DHS employees and some of their accomplices.

Range of crimes, and lots of it

While he testified that some cases dated back to fiscal year 2004, the majority of investigations were opened within the past three fiscal years – in other words, on Napolitano’s watch. The agency began operations in March 2003. (For the record, it should be noted here that in February 2010, a number of U.S. senators were stunned to learn that DHS employed more contractors than full-time employees; then, DHS employed 200,000 contractors compared to 188,000 regular employees, the latter figure excluding members of the U.S. Coast Guard. A Wired.com story dated Aug. 22 described DHS as a “massive agency” employing “more than 225,000 employees.”)

Per CNSNews.com: Among the 2,527 criminal convictions as of July 15, 1,644 (about 65 percent) stem from Federal Emergency Management Agency-related investigations; 358 (about 14 percent) from those linked to the Customs and Border Protection agency, 166 (seven percent) from Immigration and Customs Enforcement-related investigations, and 133 (five percent) from investigations linked to the Transportation Security Administration. The remaining 226 (about nine percent) convictions are categorized as “other.”

The range of crimes is astounding;

Border Patrol agents have been convicted of smuggling marijuana and cocaine. Immigration agents have forged documents and robbed drug dealers. Transportation Security Administration employees have been busted with child pornography. And those are just a few of the crimes the IG has been tasked with investigating in the past year alone.

“Since the creation of the Department of Homeland Security nearly a decade ago, the agency’s inspector general has been tasked with uncovering corruption, waste and criminality within its own ranks. The IG has had his hands full,” Wired.com said.

In 2011, according to the department’s IG office, 318 DHS employees and contractors – men and women tasked with keeping the country safe – were arrested. That’s about one per working day.

The corruption seems worse along the southwest border

According to IG documentation, there is a great deal of corruption among immigration and border agents.

“Border corruption may take the form of cash bribes, sexual favors, and other gratuities in return for allowing contraband or undocumented aliens through primary inspection lanes or even protecting and escorting border crossings; leaking sensitive law enforcement information to persons under investigation and selling law enforcement intelligence to smugglers; and providing needed documents such as immigration papers,” Edwards told lawmakers earlier this month.

Some of the criminal activity is downright scary.

Consider the case of a Border Patrol agent from Tucson named Yamilkar Fierros. He was convicted and sentenced to 20 months in prison for providing “sensor location maps, trail maps, and communications technology” to drug cartels in exchange for $5,000 in bribe money.

How bad is the criminality?

On the day of Edwards’ testimony, two Border Patrol agents were found guilty of smuggling illegal aliens in their vehicles for cash. They could face 50 years in prison.

Republicans Consider Returning To Gold Standard: Real Or Red Herring?

Stranger than fiction perhaps but the FT ( Federal Treasury) is reporting that the gold standard has returned to mainstream US politics for the first time in 30 years with a ‘gold commission’ set to become part of official Republican party policy. While this could simply be a reach for as many Ron Paul marginal voters as possible (with the view that the GOP would never really go for it); it appears drafts of the party platform from the forthcoming rain-soaked convention call for an audit of the Fed and a commission to look at restoring the link between the dollar and gold. The FT, citing a spokesperson, adds that “There is a growing recognition within the Republican party and in America more generally that we’re not going to be able to print our way to prosperity,” but “We’re not going to go from a standing start to the gold standard,” although it would provide a chance to educate politicians and the public about the merits of a return to gold. Interestingly, the Republican platform in 1980 referred to “restoration of a dependable monetary standard”, while the 1984 platform said that “the gold standard may be a useful mechanism.”

The FT does its best to placate the hysteria and walk it back with:

A return to a fixed money supply would also remove the central bank’s ability to offset demand shocks by varying interest rates. That could mean a more volatile economy and higher average unemployment over time.

But we remind readers of the actual lengths (and volatilities) of economic cycles over time (as per Deutsche’s Jim Reid):

…we think that the three ‘super-cycles’ between 1982-2007 were the exception rather than the norm and existed largely because of a near 30 year secular global decline in inflation that transcended the business cycle.

 

…every business cycle threatening incident was dealt with using aggressive intervention. This led to more and more confidence in the ability of the authorities which coupled with lower and lower interest rates increased public and private leverage to previously unthinkable levels.

 

 

One could argue that the most recent three ‘Golden-Era’ mega-business-cycles are ‘unsustainable’ fiat-driven monstrosities. The business cycle appears to be naturally shorter but we have centrally-planned it by creating more and more debt since 1971 – perhaps a return to the gold standard or hard money will increase the frequency of recessions but they can be projected and planned for and managed – as opposed to the cliff-like plunges and bubblicious thrusts of their current unsustainable experiment.

Gold in the GOP Platform?

In one sense, this is a tribute to Ron, and his endless efforts to educate us all  about sound money, in the Austrian tradition, He has been so successful with the people that the GOP sees a chance for another profitable lie.

In fact, of course, this plank is a bit of rancid cheese on the trigger to the rat trap that is the GOP. Still, if there is another gold commission, intended like the last one to promote fiat money and the Fed, may Ron and Lew Lehrman get to write the minority report again. Their last volume is an enduring masterpiece.

Note: the gold commission was signed into law by Jimmy Carter, not Reagan, despite what the moronic media say. Wall Street crookster Don Regan was its adamant enemy, and almost derailed it.
