"A man sat at a metro station in Washington DC and started to play the violin; it was a cold January morning. He played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, since it was rush hour, it was calculated that 1,100 people went through the station, most of them on their way to work. Three minutes went by, and a middle aged man noticed there was musician playing. He slowed his pace, and stopped for a few seconds, and then hurried up to meet his schedule. A minute later, the violinist received his first dollar tip: a woman threw the money in the till and without stopping, and continued to walk. A few minutes later, someone leaned against the wall to listen to him, but the man looked at his watch and started to walk again. Clearly he was late for work. The one who paid the most attention was a 3 year old boy. His mother tagged him along, hurried, but the kid stopped to look at the violinist. Finally, the mother pushed hard, and the child continued to walk, turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. All the parents, without exception, forced them to move on. In the 45 minutes the musician played, only 6 people stopped and stayed for a while. About 20 gave him money, but continued to walk their normal pace. He collected $32. When he finished playing and silence took over, no one noticed it. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition. No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the most talented musicians in the world. He had just played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, on a violin worth $3.5 million dollars. Two days before his playing in the subway, Joshua Bell sold out at a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100. This is a real story. Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste, and priorities of people. The outlines were: in a commonplace environment at an inappropriate hour: Do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we recognize the talent in an unexpected context? One of the possible conclusions from this experience could be: If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music ever written, how many other things are we missing?" ONIONS! I had never heard this!!!
PLEASE READ TO THE END: IMPORTANT

In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people there was this Doctor that visited the many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu...
Many of the farmers and their families had contracted it and many died.

The doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise, everyone was very healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the rooms of the home, (probably only two rooms back then). The doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions and place it under the microscope. She gave him one and when he did this, he did find the flu virus in the onion. It obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping the family healthy.

Now, I heard this story from my hairdresser. She said that several years ago, many of her employees were coming down with the flu, and so were many of her customers. The next year she placed several bowls with onions around in her shop. To her surprise, none of her staff got sick. It must work. Try it and see what happens. We did it last year and we never got the flu.

Now there is a P. S. to this for I sent it to a friend in Oregon who regularly contributes material to me on health issues. She replied with this most interesting experience about onions:

Thanks for the reminder. I don't know about the farmer's story...but, I do know that I contacted pneumonia, and, needless to say, I was very ill... I came across an article that said to cut both ends off an onion put it into an empty jar, and place the jar next to the sick patient at night. It said the onion would be black in the morning from the germs...sure enough it happened just like that...the onion was a mess and I began to feel better.

Another thing I read in the article was that onions and garlic placed around the room saved many from the black plague years ago. They have powerful antibacterial, antiseptic properties.

This is the other note. Lots of times when we have stomach problems we don't know what to blame. Maybe it's the onions that are to blame. Onions absorb bacteria is the reason they are so good at preventing us from getting colds and flu and is the very reason we shouldn't eat an onion that has been sitting for a time after it has been cut open.

LEFT OVER ONIONS ARE POISONOUS

I had the wonderful privilege of touring Mullins Food Products, Makers of mayonnaise. Questions about food poisoning came up, and I wanted to share what I learned from a chemist.

Ed, who was our tour guide, is a food chemistry whiz. During the tour, someone asked if we really needed to worry about mayonnaise. People are always worried that mayonnaise will spoil. Ed's answer will surprise you. Ed said that all commercially-made mayo is completely safe.

"It doesn't even have to be refrigerated. No harm in refrigerating it, but it's not really necessary." He explained that the pH in mayonnaise is set at a point that bacteria could not survive in that environment. He then talked about the summer picnic, with the bowl of potato salad sitting on the table, and how everyone blames the mayonnaise when someone gets sick.

Ed says that, when food poisoning is reported, the first thing the officials look for is when the 'victim' last ate ONIONS and where those onions came from (in the potato salad?). Ed says it's not the mayonnaise (as long as it's not homemade mayo) that spoils in the outdoors. It's probably the ONIONS, and if not the onions, it's the POTATOES.

He explained onions are a huge magnet for bacteria, especially uncooked onions. You should never plan to keep a portion of a sliced onion.. He says it's not even safe if you put it in a zip-lock bag and put it in your refrigerator.

It's already contaminated enough just by being cut open and out for a bit, that it can be a danger to you (and doubly watch out for those onions you put in your hotdogs at the baseball park!). Ed says if you take the leftover onion and cook it like crazy you'll probably be okay, but if you slice that leftover onion and put on your sandwich, you're asking for trouble. Both the onions and the moist potato in a potato salad, will attract and grow bacteria faster than any commercial mayonnaise will even begin to break down.

Also, dogs should never eat onions. Their stomachs cannot metabolize onions.

Please remember it is dangerous to cut an onion and try to use it to cook the next day, it becomes highly poisonous for even a single night and creates toxic bacteria which may cause adverse stomach infections because of excess bile secretions and even food poisoning.

Deepavali festival of lights......2012

8108863300?profile=original

Divali also means light. If there is no bhajana of Krsna there is darkness, and in Krsna Consciousness there is light. We celebrate this function in order to give up darkness and to bring the light of bhakti, pure devotion. This is the same celebration. Real happiness comes from playing karatalas and mrdangas. If one hears this, and if maya hears, maya will go away at once. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu brought the sankirtana movement to this world to drive out maya. Sri Krsna and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu do this Themselves, and we should try to follow Them.

SRILA PRABHUPADA EXPLAINS HIS PURPOSE IN STARTING THE KRISHNA CONSCIOUSNESS MOVEMENT:

"A pure devotee considers a moment's association with another pure devotee to be far superior to residing in a heavenly planet or merging in the Brahman effulgence. The topmost benediction for those who are living in this material world and are subjected to the repetition of birth and death (transmigration) is association with pure devotees. One should search out such pure devotees and remain with them. That will make one completely happy, even though living within the material world. This Krsna consciousness movement is started for that purpose."

To live in "Golden age".......

8108830653?profile=originalOne time after SB class I have asked Srila Goura Govinda maharaja question, what do you mean that we are going to be able live in "Golden age".As I have asked this question he stop and look to mine eyes and with glowing smile and high pitch voice he replay, you can not live there by merit but with pure consciousness. As the time is passing by many of as hear many different predictions for next year 2012.What is really going to happen with so many different stories we hear and predictions are tormenting peoples search for answers. What does he meant "not by merit" but "pure consciousness".Not by merit who you are and what you are but your level of development of your inner self.We have heard some charismatic swamijis in India speaking about "shift of consciousness" which start happening next year and as consequences many "fortunate souls" may achieve promotion. As Srila Swami Maharaja used to say,you cannot go to the moon by any mechanical means but you have to become qualified so by qualification!I have asked same question to Srila Narayana Maharaja and his answer was the same as Srila Swami Maharaja, there is no easy way to spiritual world as long you do your homework! So if you want to achieve promotion you have to do your part and we all know what that means!Pure devotee is always self contain and happy in any situation and when TITANIC start going down and you are hearing the music..... you chant and think that you are in Sri Vrndavan and if you serve Srila Gurudev he may pull you with the rope .We are making all choices so where do we want to go? Be prepared and do your part sincerely....

Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu is not an incarnation of Lord Krishna, He is Lord Krishna or God Himself. He is not an Avatar of Krishna but the Avatari Krishna Himself with Radha's love. He is even more than Krishna in some ways since He has Radha's 25 qualities in addition to His (Krishna's) own 64 qualities and He is more merciful than even His own other original form of Krishna. According to Shrila Prabodhananda Sarasvati, unless He is accepted in this original form of Gauranga as the independent Supreme Lord and as the Absolute Godhead Himself by the people of this Kali Yuga (not just as an "incarnation" of Krishna), there is no hope. No Acharyas have stressed that Lord Chaitanya was a social reformer. Calling God Himself a social reformer does not befit His Absolute Position as the Supreme Enjoyer and Creator of everything.

What do you need.....

8108829068?profile=originalI am so glad to understand that as soon as your finances are almost depleted, Krishna sees to everything. This is the process of Krishna Consciousness. If we are sincere, Krishna will supply us with all necessities of life. When we serve so

me mundane master, he gives us sufficient salary, so when we serve the Supreme Master, how it is possible that He will keep us fasting? Actually due to our lack of Krishna Consciousness sometimes we become disturbed with shortage of funds. But we should be confident that our necessities will certainly be fulfilled by the Supreme Lord. The same incident sometimes happens in New York temple. When there is a shortage of funds, sometimes they find money accidentally without knowing the source.

The guru can show you the way.........

8108826700?profile=originalWe’re drowning in the ocean of material existence. Somehow, we’ve come to sadhusanga and taken diksa. We’re trying to give up anarthas, lust, but we’re failing. We know that material attachments prevent us from progressing, but we’re not successful. What to do? We know that by doing bhajan they’ll go and renunciation will come, but when the husband does, the wife complains…We know all these things, but we have samskaras of countless births. So the sadhus, who are so merciful, give us a chance to hear their powerful harikatha, lila katha, which purify us; to learn how to chant the holy name properly; to develop attachment and taste for sadhana, chanting, harikatha…

How did our Goswamis do bhajan? Day and night absorbed, hardly eating and sleeping, crying to Radha –Krishna, chanting the holy name with tears in their eyes and their heart melting, not less than one lakh (64 rounds)…

If one thinks, “I’ve been following this path for 20 years, I have no realization, I’m confused”, whose fault is it? The saints say that we should chant one lakh but we don’t. So many devotees chant four rounds, and not even properly. Only to receive diksa will not do. It must be real diksa. If you’re not following the instructions but still want everything to come in your heart, how will it be? Valmiki took diksa and chanted for 60 000 years, but we want things to happen in one day! How will it be?

The guru can show you the way but YOU will have to walk. Try to follow guru and Vaisnavas and serve them internally, not just externally. Try to follow the teachings of Upadesamrta. If you don’t, how will you get all these high things? Try to follow, actively, then you’ll realize something. Follow, from today onwards…

We should develop affection for Gaura-Nitai, Radha-Krishna. Anyone whoever it may be, who is not favorable for bhakti, should be given up.

If you’re chanting, hearing, associating, but no tears are coming, then read the Srimad Bhagavatam, the Caitanya Caritamrta, the Goswamis’ books. It will help you.

Try to follow some rules. Chant one lakh. Offer all respect to Vaisnavas, follow Gurudeva, be in association of high-class Vaisnavas and try to realize what they’re doing, and follow it. Try to control your very restless mind. Endeavor. Avoid all the things which make it even more restless…

Cultivate the qualities of the 3rd verse of Upadesamrta. Even if you have no taste, keep on going. The samskaras of countless lives are there, that’s why the heart is not melting and tears are not coming. So keep on endeavoring with enthusiasm, unflinching confidence and patience, following the Vasnavas in anugatyah. Have the confidence that, “by practicing, I will surely attain Krishna-seva.”

Don’t give up chanting, reading, hearing, out of hopelessness. Never be hopeless! It’s a useless thought. Follow the practices in a standard way. Be determined, “I’ll chant one lakh a day. I’ll follow what my diksa and siksa gurus are telling me.” Don’t lose heart, be patient. Follow the rules and regulations given by our acaryas.

If you practice but nothing happens, then you can approach Nityananda Prabhu. He said He will take responsibility. But we don’t have faith in Nitai even…

Build a platform by following the teachings of Upadesamrta, then the higher things will come. They cannot come without following them. Practice seriously. Be strong. Then it will come, slowly, slowly. Never be hopeless. If there’s delay, one should be patient.

Your servant

May his glories forever be remembered.......

8108827882?profile=original

I offer my prostrated obeisances to the lotus feet of Nitya-lila Pravistha Om Vishnupada Rupanuga-Acarya Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Goswami Maharaja who has so expertly carried on the mission of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu in the line of Srila Rupa Goswami in our modern age. He lived and preached the vani of Rupa and Ragunatha Goswamis in India exclusively for 50 years and in the last 15 years of his life, all over the world. May his glories forever be remembered.

I also offer my heartfelt pushpanjali to the lotus feet of Nitya-lila Pravistha Om Vishnupada Sri Srimad Gour Govinda Swami, my siksa guru, who fulfilled the innermost desire of Srila AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada by propagating the path of raganuga-bhakti. Despite the ecclesiastic restrictions he had placed on him by some of his godbrothers and suffering the attacks of institutional misconceptions, he still managed to propound the highest teachings of our Gaudiya line up until his last breath in Sridhama Mayapura. May his glories be known for many generations to come. Both these great acaryas desired that the illuminating path of raganuga-bhakti be taught all over the world.

This short essay will elucidate the essential teachings of Srila Rupa Goswami on Raganuga-bhakti and it hopes to dispel doubts in the minds of those who may have been confused by prevalent misunderstandings of this esoteric subject matter.

The intelligence of the practitioners of vaidhi-bhakti-sadhana is dependent on the logic and reasoning of sastra. Such practice is filled with obligation, fear and duty. Practitioners often have a misunderstanding and fear about raganuga-bhakti and therefore wrongly conclude that it is so esoteric and elevated that it is only meant for the very rare advanced devotees and not for them. Out of ignorance they try to dissuade others from entering the path of raganuga-bhakti, cheating themselves and others of the opportunity of this most precious gift. Although, raganuga-bhakti-sadhana is clearly explained in Srimad-Bhagavatam, Caitanya Caritamrita and especially the writings of Sri Rupa and Ragunatha Goswamis, it is very difficult to grasp until one has the good fortune to hear about it directly from the lips of a pure devotee, especially a high class rasik Vaisnava.

Prema Purusottama, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, the most munificent avatar of the Supreme Lord, incarnated in this age of Kali to relish the highest mellows of devotional service and distribute Vraja-prema to everyone. He did this through the propagation of the pure name of Krsna and the practice of raganuga-bhakti. Devotees coming in His line are meant to be recipients of this special mercy by entering into pure and spontaneous devotional service. In fact only those in succession from Sri Caitanya and his principle followers are allowed entrance into this sublime practice, other sampradayas have little or no access to it. Life after life, we therefore pray and fall down at the lotus feet of the followers of Sri Caitanyadeva, such as Svarupa Damodara Goswami, Sri Rupa, Ragunatha and Sanatan Goswamis and all their successors. They all have revealed this sublime path both by example and precept. By their causeless mercy we may be able to follow in their footsteps and gain entrance into that divine love of Radha and Krsna in Vrindavana that they are relishing.

Under the order of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, Srila Rupa Goswami compiled many bhakti-sastras. One of his most important works is Bhakti Rasamrita Sindhu which gives the devotees a scientific understanding of the process of bhakti from beginning to end. It is referred to as ‘Paribhasa-bhakti sastra’ because of the many definitions it presents in bhakti. The demon of ignorance regarding raganuga-bhakti can be slayed by faithfully hearing the authoritative statements in this book. Following are excerpts that present clear and easy to understand definitions of raganuga-bhakti.

What is raganuga?

virajantim abhivyaktam vraja-vasi-janadisu
ragatmikam anusrta ya sa raganugocyate

Bhakti Rasamrita Sindhu (BRS), 1.2.270 states, “That bhakti which is distinctly present in the eternal inhabitants of Vraja is called ragatmika-bhakti. Bhakti which follows in accordance with that ragatmika-bhakti is called raganuga-bhakti”.

This first verse describes two types of raga-bhakti. One is ragatmika-bhakti, which means the fully perfected bhakti that the eternal residents of Vrindavana possess, like Mother Yasoda, Nanda Maharaja, Krsna’s cowherd boyfriends and the Vraja gopis. The other type of raga-bhakti is raganuga-bhakti, which is practiced by sadhakas in this world who aspire for a particular type of love possessed exclusively by these eternal residents of Vrindavana, and who thus ‘follows in their footsteps’ with the aim of attaining their moods. Such practice includes hearing and chanting about their charming pastimes and meditating on them. There is a common misunderstanding that one has to be perfect before entering into raganuga-bhakti. It is not true. Those who are raganuga-bhaktas have not yet attained perfection but are on the ‘fast-track’ to perfection, by following those who are perfect. One may even be quite fallen, but by the causeless mercy of Sri Guru and Vaisnavas can gain the qualification for raganuga-bhakti. What is that qualification? It is not based on any amount of material piety or good qualities, but – only an intense greed to obtain the moods of the Vrajabasis.

raganuga-vivekartham adau ragatmikocyate BRS (Bhakti-Rasamrita-Sindhu) 1.2.271
“In order to fully understand raganuga-bhakti, ragatmika-bhakti is being described first”.

What is ‘raga’, and what is ‘ragatmika’?

iste svarasiki ragah
paramvistata bhavet
tan-mayi ya bhaved bhaktih
satra ragatmikodita BRS 1.2.272

Raga is defined as the unquenchable loving thirst (prema-mayi trsna) for the object of one’s affection (Sri Krsna) which gives rise to spontaneous and intense absorption (svarasiki paramavisthitah) in that object. These are not ordinary mundane feelings, but transcendental love and affection that Sri Krsna’s eternal associates have for Him in the spiritual world. ‘Perfected’ persons who have this raga are called, ‘ragatmika-janas’ and their bhakti is called ‘ragatmika-bhakti’. Their devotion has ‘raga’ at its heart and soul. All the eternal residents of Vrindavana possess this raga or intense love for Krsna, even the animals, birds, trees and creepers, what to speak of Krsna’s dear friends, family members and confidants, the Vraja-gopis.

There are two types of raga, kama-rupa and sambandha-rupa. Kama-rupa pertains to the conjugal attraction of Sri Krsna’s beloved, the gopis. Sambandha-rupa refers to all other relationships including Krsna’s parents and elders in vatsalya-rasa, Krsna’s friends in sakhya-rasa, and Krsna’s servants with a mixture of two, including all other creatures in Vrindavana like the cows, peacocks, birds, trees and plants. There are only 3½ rasas in Vrindavana, conjugal, parental, friendship and servitorship mixed with any of these higher rasas. There is no pure dasya-rasa in Vraja, as it would not please Krsna due to a lack of intimacy. Remember, the word ‘raga’ denotes intense love and affection, which is lacking in pure dasya-rasa.

Outside of Vrindavana, in Mathura, Dvarka, Ayodhya or Vaikuntha, the rasas lack intense affection due to the presence of aisvarya-bhava, the awareness of the Supreme Lord’s majesty and opulence. Reverential moods create a distance between the Lord and the worshipper which limits or ‘shrinks’ the expression of love. The Lord is not as satisfied by such restrained love as He is with the natural, spontaneous and overflowing love in Vrindavana. Vraja-prema is unique. It binds the lover and beloved in a very tight bond of affection. Krsna even becomes controlled by the charming love of the Vrajabasis.

Who is eligible for raganuga-bhakti?

tatra adhikari-ragatmikaika-nistha ye
vraja-vasi-janadayah
tesam bhavaptaye lubdho
bhaved atradhikaranan

BRS 1.2.291, “The qualification for raganuga-bhakti is as follows: Those who have intense greed to obtain the bhava of the Vrajabasis (who are exclusively established in ragatmika-bhakti) are alone eligible for the path of raganuga-bhakti.”

krsna-bhakti-rasa-bhavita mati
kriyatam yadi kuto ’pi labhyate
tatra laulyam api maulyam ekalam
janma-koti-sukrtair na labhyate

In Srila Rupa Goswami’s Padyavali 14, he substantiates this point, “Pure devotional service in Krsna consciousness cannot be had even by pious activities in hundreds and thousands of lives. It can be obtained only by paying one price; that is, intense greed to obtain it. If it is available somewhere, one must purchase it without delay.”

One may ask then, “Where that greed is available?” Transcendental ‘greed’ is available in the association of rasik Vaisnavas. By the faithful and submissive hearing of their powerful Hari-katha, coupled with their mercy, the moods and sentiments within their hearts are passed on to ours.

The question then arises, “Who is eligible to take the association of such rasik Vaisnavas?” Until one has accumulated sufficient bhakti-sukriti (spiritual credit) one will not be able to properly appreciate or associate with high class Vaisnavas. Bhakti sukriti or spiritual credit is created by performing profuse vaidhi-bhakti sadhana, repeatedly coming into contact with the times, places and persons associated with bhakti (i.e., following holy tithis like Ekadasi, Janmastami, Gaura Purnima, visiting holy places like Vrindavana, Navadvipa, and Puri) and coming in contact with pure Vaisnavas. When such transcendental ‘pious’ credits accumulate to a high degree, the result is that one gets the opportunity for very high class Vaisnava sanga and the ability to properly associate with them. To further qualify Srila Rupa Goswami’s statement, it is true that no amount of ‘material piety’ is required to obtain transcendental greed, but a certain amount of bhakti-sukriti, or transcendental ‘piety’, is required to enter properly into sadhu-sanga.

Vrindavana dhama also holds special significance in the path of raga-marg. Tisthan Vraje tad-anuragi jananugami (Upadesamrita 8), “While residing in Vraja as a follower of the eternal residents of Vraja, who possess inherent spontaneous love for Sri Krsna, one should spend all his time in meticulously hearing, chanting and remembering the names, forms, qualities and pastimes of Sri Krsna. This is the essence of all advice”. Vrindavana dhama also awards the eligibility to enter raga-marg. Its land, dust, moving and non-moving creatures and residents are all cintamani, wish fulfilling gems that grant bhakti to those who come in contact with them. Even those visitors who do not know the glory of the dhama, or are just ‘passing through’ will be benefited unknowingly. This is called ajnata sukriti. Vrindavana dhama is extremely powerful and merciful. It contains so much sakti, because it is the intimate home of Radha-Krsna and is filled everywhere with Their loving associates and pastimes.

What is the symptom that ‘divine greed’ has arisen?

tat-tad-bhavadi-madhurye
srute dhir yad apeksate
natra sastram na yuktim ca
tal-lobhotpatti-laksanam

BRS 1.2.292, “Upon hearing the incomparably sweet lila-katha and realizing the sweetness of the loving moods of the eternal associates of Sri Radha-Krsna in Vraja, one develops an intense desire to obtain those moods and be like them. At that time one’s intelligence will no longer depend on the rules and logic of the scriptures. This is the symptom of the awakening of divine greed.”

How do we practice raganuga-bhakti?

krsnam smaran janam casya prestam nija-samihitam
tat-tat-katha-ratas casau kuryad vasam vraje sada

BRS, 1.2.294, “The devotee should always think of Krsna within himself and should choose a very dear devotee who is a servitor of Krsna in Vrindavana. One should constantly engage in topics about that servitor and their loving relationship with Krsna and one should always live in Vrindavana.”

seva sadhaka-rupena siddha-rupena catra hi
tad-bhava-lipsuna karya vraja-lokanusaratah

BRS, 1.2.295, “The devotee should serve Krsna in his external body as well as his internally conceived spiritual (perfect) body by following in the footsteps of a particular dear servant of Krsna in Vrindavana, desiring to obtain their bhava.”

Outwardly we may follow the example of the followers of Sri Caitanyadev, the Goswamis, and Gurudeva, by performing various activities like hearing and chanting, preaching and serving Vaisnavas. Internally, in our minds and hearts, we will follow the eternal residents of Vraja, particularly those who have the same mood for which we aspire, by rendering service to Radha and Krsna under their guidance. Thus, at different times or even simultaneously, we will perform external and internal seva. Srila Gurudeva would often tell the pujaris, kirtaniyas, and preachers to give prominence to cultivating the proper internal moods while performing their seva instead of perfecting the mechanical or artistic aspect of it. This instruction can be applied to any seva, cooking, book publishing, book distribution, temple management, preaching, gardening, etc.

It is not enough to mentally imagine the eternal associates of Vraja and their transcendental seva. By forcing the mind to remember Krsna’s asta-kaliya-lila it will be material and can never be called ‘siddha rupena catra hi’, internal absorption in seva. The process of raganuga-bhakti sadhana is not an artificial imposition on the mind, but rather, a natural manifestation from the heart. Having acquired transcendental greed, the devotee engages in the process of hearing and chanting with the proper moods and naturally the heart becomes saturated with bhakti-rasa. Internal meditation on Krsna’s lilas will manifest automatically. This is not a figment of the imagination, but a reality.

Pure love for Krsna is eternally established in the hearts of the living entities. It is not something to be gained from another source. When the heart is purified by hearing and chanting, this love naturally awakens.

In the Krama Sandarbha (7.5.18), Srila Jiva Goswami’s commentary on the 10th canto of Srimad Bhagavatam, he writes, “Aural contact with the sound vibrations describing the name, form, qualities, and pastimes of Vrajendra-nandana Syamasundara Sri Krsna and His devotees is called sravana. At first, hearing of sri-nama is necessary to purify the mind from the contamination of sense gratification. When the mind has been purified by means of hearing about His beautiful rupa (form) then eligibility (to realize that rupa) arises within ones heart. When such eligibility has fully manifested there, the revelation of the 64 qualities of Sri Krsna which exist within His transcendental form takes place. Thereafter, through the revelation of the various unique and special qualities of His associates, as well as paraphernalia, abode etc., Sri Krsna’s own excellences become more clearly manifest. Thus through the full manifestation of His name, form, qualities, and associates the revelation of His lila or pastimes becomes beautifully manifest in the heart of the sadhaka. In regard to sravana, the hearing of Srimad-Bhagavatam is supremely exalted.

To illustrate this point, once Srinivasa Acarya was doing bhajan in Vrindavana and meditating on Radha and Krsna’s Holi pastime, and was experiencing internally the incomparable beauty of the aprakrta (unmanifest) Sri Vrindavana-dhama. Vrnda devi was gathering all the paraphernalia for the festival with the help of other gopis who were collecting colored powders and tuning musical instruments like vinas. When everything was ready, Srimati Radharani and Krsna, along with Their sakhis, began playing Holi, throwing colored powders on each other’s bodies and squirting each other with tinted water scented with musk and saffron. As Srinivasa watched the fun, the sakhis winked at him, and by their mercy he assumed the form of a maidservant, and stood by the side of Radharani, supplying Her with colored powders and dyes. The scene was so beautiful that hundreds of Cupids would have fainted if they had seen it. The sky was filled with so much colored powder that the sum was almost blocked out, and the air was filled with the deafening sounds of the musical instruments. Krsna showered the gopis with color and then offered various excuses so He could embrace and kiss them.

Lalita and Visakha then placed Srimati Radharani and Krsna on a throne, and Srinivasa in his manjari form fanned Them both with a camara, removing Their exhaustion after the vigorous game, and fulfilling his own spiritual desires. When the pastime came to an end, Srinivasa returned to external consciousness and saw that his regular body was covered with colored powders that he was unable to conceal from the other devotees. The colors glittered and were so fragrant that they drove everyone mad. (Excerpt from ‘Vrindavana the Playground of God’ by Bhakti Caitanya Swami).

sravanotkirtanadini vaidhi-bhakty-uditani tu
yany angani ca tahny atra viheyani manisibhi

BRS, 1.2.296, “The angas of bhakti such as sravana, kirtana, sri-guru-padasraya, and others, which have already been described in regard to vaidhi-bhakti, are recognized to be also useful and necessary in raganuga-bhakti by intelligent persons. It is not that one who is practicing raganuga-bhakti sadhana will only meditate of Sri Krsna’s pastimes, rejecting all the other angas of bhakti. Indeed, they may be even more careful in executing the angas of vaidhi-bhakti, particularly the most important ones like hearing, chanting and remembering under the shelter of Sri Guru, and may elect to disregard the less important angas that do not nourish their particular bhava. Thus the rules and regulations of scriptures serve to increase one’s love and affection, not that one becomes a slave to blindly following sastra and losing sight of the final objective, Krsna-prema.

Raganuga-bhakti is superior to vaidhi-bhakti from many perspectives. It awards the highest level of perfection in Krsna-prema, which can even control Krsna. It is a sublime path full of nectar even from the very beginning. Because it is so rare, it may take many lifetimes to achieve, unlike vaidhi-bhakti which can be perfected relatively quickly. Being thoroughly convinced of the superiority of raganuga-bhakti, and more importantly, developing an intense greed to enter into it, a sincere sadhaka will persevere on the path until his goal is reached. He will not be dissuaded by any other sadhana (practice) or sadhya (goal). This rare gift that Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu came to give the world is so precious.

prema-rasa-niryasa karite asvadana
raga-marga bhakti loke karite pracarana
rasika-sekhara krsna parama-karuna
ei dui hetu haite icchara udgama
(Caitanya Caritamrita Adi. 4.15-16)

The Lord’s desire to appear was born from two reasons: the Lord wanted to taste the sweet essence of the mellows of love of God, and He wanted to propagate devotional service in the world on the platform of spontaneous attraction (raga-marga). Thus He is known as supremely jubilant and as the most merciful of all.

In conclusion, although the practice of raganuga-bhakti-sadhana is very rare, it is obtainable and understandable by those who follow the process. By accumulating bhakti-sukriti one comes to properly associate with high class rasik Vaisnavas and thus becomes permeated with greed to obtain the mood of the Vrajabasis, enabling one to enter into raganuga-bhakti.

Srila Rupa and Ragunatha das Goswamis are expert guides on this path and have given many jewels in the form of their literatures. Their successors, Srila Krsna das Kaviraja Goswami, Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakur, and our Rupanuga-guru-varga have all contributed by writing their literatures describing Radha and Krsna’s Vrindavana pastimes and the process of raganuga-bhakti.

In Narottama das Thakur’s Prathana song one, Lalasamayi (Longing for the service of the Lord), ‘Gauranga’ Balite Ha’be, he sings:

rupa-ragunatha-pade ha-ibe akuti
kabe hama bujhaba sri-yugala-piriti (1)

“When will I eagerly follow the path of Sri Rupa Goswami and Sri Raghunatha das Goswami? By their instructions I will be able to understand the divine love of Sri Radha and Krsna.”

By the mercy of Rupa and Raghunatha we may be able to enter into this elevated path of raganuga-bhakti and reach the highest goal of life, service to the divine youthful couple of Vraja, Sri Sri Radha-Krsna in loving ecstasy.

Once upon a time, thousands of sages came together in the holy place called Naimisaranya to perform sacrifice. To their very good fortune the great sage Suta Goswami, who had been traveling to different pilgrimage sites, arrived there along with his disciples. The sages present were very enlivened to see him. They all stood up immediately to pay their respects to the great sage, offered him a very nice Vyasasana, and requested him with folded hands to sit down on it.

The sages of Naimisaranya said to Suta Goswami with folded hands, "O Sutaji! We humbly request you to tell us something about the wonderful activities and pastimes of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. There are many thousands of such narrations, but we want to hear the most perfect one, by following which we can all be delivered from this Material Ocean and return back to Godhead.

Hearing the request made by these sages, headed by Saunaka Rsi, Suta Goswami began to speak, "O sages, please listen to me. I first went to Puskara Tirtha, then after visiting thousands of other holy places, I reached Hastinapura. There on the bank of Ganges, I saw thousands of sages sitting together with Pariksit Maharaja. Just then the great sage Sukadeva Goswami appeared, and all the sages present paid him proper respect by rising from their seats with folded hands. All the sages unanimously offered the Vyasasana to Sukadeva Goswami, who would speak Krishna katha to Pariksit Maharaja.

Suta Goswami said, "O sages, I have just come from Hastinapura where I heard Srimad Bhagavatam from the lotus mouth of Sukadeva Goswami. Now I will tell you about the all-attractive activities and pastimes of the Lord.

Once, long ago, Sri Narada Muni reached Badrika Ashram, the residence of Sri Narayana Rishi. The river Alakananda was flowing down from His lotus feet. Narada paid his obeisances to Narayana and prayed, "Oh Lord of the demigods, Oh ocean of mercy! Oh master of creation, You are all truthful, the essence of all truths. I offer my obeisances unto You. "Oh Lord! In this material world all living entities are busily engaged in sense gratification. They have all forgotten the ultimate goal of life. Therefore please explain something which will be helpful both for householders and sages in the renounced order like me, something that will help us attain self realization and return back to Godhead."

Hearing the sweet words of Narada, Lord Narayana smiled. He said, "O Narada, please listen to the narrations about the supremely pious pastimes of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Sri Krishna, for they will diminish all sinful reaction. You already know of all the activities of the Supreme Lord, but for the benefit of others, you are asking Me again. So now I will tell you about the glories of the sacred Purushottama month, which is fully potent to grant not only all material happiness but also qualify one to return back to Godhead at the end of life.

Naradji enquired, "O Lord, I have heard the glories of all months including Kartika, Chaitra, etc., but which month is this Purushottama month? O ocean of mercy, please tell me all about this sacred month.

What is the way to glorify this month? What should I do in this month? How should I take bath, give in charity, etc. What should I chant? Who should I worship? Should I observe fasting in this month?" Please tell me everything in detail.

Suta Goswavmi said, "O sages, after hearing all these questions form Narada, Lord Narayana began to speak from His moon-like lotus mouth, "O Narada, I will tell you something which was previously explained by Lord Sri Krishna to Maharaja Yudhisthira. Once Dharmaraja Yudhisthira lost everything—his empire, his palace and even his chaste wife Draupadi—to Duryodhana in a gambling match. At that time Draupadi was insulted by Dusasana in front of the whole royal assembly. But when Dusasana had tried to strip Draupadi naked, she was saved from such a dangerous situation by Lord Sri Krishna. After this incident, Yudhisthira Maharaja along with his brothers and wife left his kingdom and lived in Kamyavan, Vrindavan.

Once Sri Krishna, son of Devaki, visited the Pandavas in that forest. All the Pandavas, including Draupadi, were very happy to see their Lord, and they forgot their painful forest life immediately. They felt enriched with a new life just by taking Sri Krishna’s darshan. They paid their obeisances at their Lord’s lotus feet. Seeing the miserable condition of the Pandavas, Sri Krishna became very upset, and at the same time He became very angry towards Duryodhana. It appeared as if the Lord was going to destroy the whole universe, and so the Pandavas became fearful and all began to pray to the Lord in a humble mood. Listening to the humble prayers of Arjuna, the Lord composed Himself and said, "Oh Arjuna, being very pleased with all of you Pandavas, and being controlled by your devotion and friendship towards Me, I will now tell you about the wonderful history of Purushottama month.

Once upon a time, by the arrangement of providence, an extra month came to this world. Every one took this month to be most inauspicious, and even saw it as a stool-like month. Just as one should not touch stool, this month was also seen as untouchable. It was constantly unprotected and blasphemed, and rejected by everyone as an improper time for any religious and auspicious activities.

Being so rejected by all human beings, and constantly hearing only bad words and blasphemy, the personality of this extra month became very sad. She came to Vaikuntha to explain her sorrowful situation to the Lord. Seeing Lord Vishnu on His simhasana, she fell down at His lotus feet in a mood of sorrow and grief. Tears were falling profusely from her eyes. She prayed to the Lord, "Oh ocean of mercy! I have come to You because I am helpless. I have been rejected and blasphemed by all people of the world. Please protect me; please show me Your mercy. Please don’t be indifferent towards me." Saying these words, the extra month [adhik maas] continued crying in front of Lord Vishnu and sat down before Him in a dejected mood. Seeing the humble and pitiable position of the extra month, Lord Vishnu became very merciful towards her. He told her, "Do not lament, I shall give you protection from all of your miseries. Please stop crying. It is not proper to lament after taking shelter of My lotus feet."

Being so consoled by the Lord, the extra month said, "Oh Lord, You know my painful condition. No one is in more miserable situation in these three worlds than I. First of all, all other months, years, days, nights, directions etc. are being protected by You, and so they are always moving fearlessly in their unique charming moods. But I [an extra month] don’t have any name, nor any protector, nor a husband to give me shelter. All the demigods and human beings have rejected me for any auspicious activities. For this reason, oh Lord, I want to die immediately." Oh Narada, this extra month then repeatedly said, "I want to die! I want to die! I want to die!" Then she fainted at the feet of the Lord.

Being requested by Lord Vishnu, Garuda started fanning the extra month. And after sometime she got up and began to speak again, "Oh Lord of the universe, I am in need of Your shelter, please protect me."

Lord Vishnu told the extra month, "Oh child, please don’t lament, your misery will be finished very soon. Get up and come with Me to Goloka Vrindavana, which is even unattainable to great yogis. Goloka is the abode of Lord Sri Krishna. Here Lord Sri Krishna is in His two handed form, surrounded by gopis and is enjoying His eternal pastimes. The Supreme Sri Krishna of Goloka will deliver you from all your miseries, please come with Me." Then Lord Vishnu took Malamasa (the extra month) to Goloka by catching her by the hand.

From a distant place Lord Vishnu and Malamasa observed the effulgence of Goloka. This dazzling effulgence automatically forced Malamasa to close her eyes. Therefore, keeping the extra month behind Him, Lord Vishnu proceeded further until they reached the main gate. There the doorkeeper paid his respects to Him.

Having reached the Supreme Abode, Lord Vishnu met Lord Sri Krishna who was surrounded by many devoted gopis. Lord Vishnu husband of Ramadevi, paid His obeisances to Lord Sri Krishna. Then He made the extra month also offer her obeisances at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Krishna, even though she was crying loudly. Immediately Sri Krishna asked, "Why is she crying? She is in Goloka Vrindavana, why is she crying?" Hearing these words form Lord Sri Krishna, Lord Vishnu got up from His seat and started explaining the miserable condition of the extra month. He begged Him to please protect his unprotected month. "There is no one except You Lord Krishna, who can save this extra month from her hellish condition and give her full protection." Having said these words, Lord Vishnu remained standing in front of Lord Krishna with folded hands.

Then Suta Goswami continued to speak, "Oh sages! Lord Vishnu took his seat, and Lord Krishna spoke very confidential words to Him. Listen carefully, for I am now going to share those words with all of you.

Purushottama Sri Krishna said, "Oh Vishnu, you have done a very great deed by bringing this extra month to Me. You will become even more famous for performing this act. Because You have accepted this Malamasa, I will also accept her. I shall make this poor extra month just like Me in quality, fame opulence, realization, success, and in giving benediction to the devotees. This month will become equally potent to Me. I am bestowing all of My divine qualities in this abused month. Named after Me, this month will be famous as Purushottama month in this world.

"Oh Janardana, now that she has imbued My qualities, I Myself will become the husband and protector of this Purushottama month. And being equal to Me, this month will be the master of all other months. Now this month will become worshipable by one and all. Everyone should pay their obeisances to her, everyone should worship her. This month is equally as powerful as Me to give any type of benediction to its observer. The worshiper of this month will be able to burn all this past sinful reactions to ashes, and after enjoying a blissful life in the material realm, he will return back to Godhead.

"Oh Garudadhwaja," Lord Sri Krishna continued, "My Goloka is unattainable to the performers of austerities, mahatmas engaged in pious activities, to people who maintain celibacy, or to those who fast their whole life’s duration. But just by observing Purushottama month and becoming a devotee one can easily cross over this material ocean and return back to Godhead. Observance of this Purushottama month is the best of all austerities. Just as a farmer produces a rich harvest by planting seeds in nicely cultivated land, so an intelligent man who practices devotional service towards the Supreme Lord in this Purushottama month will enjoy a blissful life while in this world and after leaving his body he will return back to Godhead.

"An unfortunate ignorant man, who does not perform any japa, does not give any charity, does not pay respect to Lord Sri Krishna and His devotees, does not behave properly to brahmanas, makes enmity with others and who blasphemes the Purushottama month will go to hell for an unlimited period." Lord Sri Krishna continued, "How can a person make his life successful unless he performs devotional service in this Purushottama month? A person who is fully engaged in sense gratification and does not give any special importance to this sacred month becomes the best candidate for hell. All human beings should perform some devotional service in this Purushottama month by:

1. Worshipping Me, Sri Krishna, by chanting My holy name 2. Study of Srimad Bhagavatam and Bhagavad-gita, particularly Chapter Fifteen, Purushottama Yoga 3. Giving in charity 4. Offering ghee diya (lamp) daily

A fortunate person who follows My instructions and observes this Purushottama month properly, and in a faithful way worships Me will attain fame, opulence and a good son in this very life. After enjoying a happy life, he will return back to Goloka Dhama. By following My instructions, everyone should worship this sacred month. I have made it the best among all other months. Oh husband of Rama devi (Vishnu), give up all kinds of mental speculation about this extra month. Just take this Purushottama month with You to Your Vaikuntha abode.

After narrating this brief history of the Purushottama month, Lord Sri Krishna glanced very mercifully upon Yudhisthira and Draupadi, and then began speaking to Arjuna:

"Oh lion amongst men, can you now understand the reason why you Pandavas are suffering? You did not acknowledge or honor the presence of Purushottama month, which has just recently finished. That month which is most dear to Vrindavan Chandra has passed, but you Pandavas were in the forest and did not worship Purushottama month. So now you are suffering. You have been following the ritualistic principles given to you by Vyasadeva, but unless you worship Purushottama month you cannot perform pure devotional service to Me."

Lord Sri Krishna continued, "Now I am going to narrate a famous historical event concerning the previous birth of Draupadi. In her previous birth, Draupadi was the daughter of a great Brahmana Sage called Medhavi. Her mother died when she was a small child, and so she was under the care of her father. Day by day, she grew to full bloom youth. She was very beautiful, but her father was not interested in arranging her marriage. Seeing her other girlfriends with their husbands and young children she passed her days in a very miserable way. In the meantime, her father passed away from this material world while uttering the sacred name of Hari.

"This made his daughter even more miserable. Fortunately, the great sage, Durvasa Muni, appeared in her ashram shortly after her father’s death. Seeing the great sage, the girl paid her obeisances to him and respectfully worshiped him. She offered flowers and fruits to the great sage. When he expressed his pleasure with her reception, she began lamenting and crying before him. Concerned, the sage inquired about her lamentation. The brahmana girl began to speak, "Oh great saint Durvasa, you know everything past, present and future. I have no shelter in this world. I have lost all of my relatives. My parents have passed away, and I have no elder brother. I am also unmarried, and therefore there is no husband to protect me. Oh great sage, please do something, please help me! Please give me some advice to relieve me from this miserable condition." After listening to her prayer, Durvasa began to consider the unfortunate condition of the girl, and he decided to show mercy towards her.

Sage Durvasa began to speak, "Oh beautiful one, three months from now the most auspicious Purushottama month will begin. This sacred month is most dear to Lord Sri Krishna. Just by taking a holy bath in this month a man or woman can become completely sinless. This Purushottama month is more glorious than all other months, including Kartik month. The glories of all other months is not even equal to one sixteenth of the glories of Purushottama month. The merit of a person who takes a holy bath even once in this month is equal to the merit of taking bath in the Ganges for twelve thousand years, or the merit achieved by a person who takes a bath in the Ganges or Godavari when Brihaspati enters Leo. If you will take a holy bath, give in charity and chant the holy name of Krishna during this month, all your miseries will go away. You will attain all kinds of perfection, and all of your desires will be fulfilled. Please follow my advice. Please do not forget to worship the forthcoming Purushottama month very sincerely."

After speaking these words, Sage Durvasa remained silent. Unfortunately, the young brahmani did not believe in his words; rather she became angry and started blaspheming, "Oh great sage, you are lying. How could this extra month, which is also called Mala-masa [stool month], be superior to other great months like Magha, Kartika and Vaisakha? I cannot believe your words. You are trying to cheat me. This extra month is known to be most abominable for any kind of pious activity."

Hearing these words of the brahmana girl, Durvasa became very angry, his whole body started burning, and his eyes became red. But remembering the helpless condition of the girl, he consciously controlled himself.

Sage Durvasa told the girl, "Oh unintelligent one, I am not going to curse you because your father was a good friend of mine. You are in such a helpless condition. Being and ignorant child, you cannot understand the shastrik conclusion. I am not going to take your offenses towards me seriously. But at the same time, I cannot and should not tolerate your offences towards Purushottama month. In your next life you will certainly reap the results of your offensive words." The great sage Durvasa then hurriedly left that place to perform his service for Lord Narayana.

Lord Sri Krishna told Arjuna, "Oh sinless one, when Durvasa Muni left that place the brahmana girl [Druapadi in her previous birth] lost all of her opulences in a moment. Being an offender to Purushottama month, her body began to look very ugly, and she lost all of her bodily effulgence. She then decided to worship Lord Shiva who is known as Ashutosh, one who is very easily pleased.

This young brahmani then began to perform great austerities to please Lord Shiva, the husband of Parvati. She continued her austerities for nine thousand years. In the summer season, she would sit for meditation surrounded by fire and under the hot sun. In the winter season, she meditated under freezing cold water. Observing her great austerities, even the demigods became fearful. Lord Shankara then appeared before the brahmana girl because he was pleased by her worship and austerities. When Lord Shiva appeared before the girl in his spiritual form, she immediately stood up rejuvenated. In the presence of Lord Shiva all of her bodily weakness disappeared and she again started to look beautiful. Seeing Lord Shiva in front of her, she started to worship him in her mind, and then began to recite nice prayers to please Him.

Being very pleased with the girl, Lord Shiva said, "Oh performer of austerity, all good fortune to you. Now please ask some boon from me. I am pleased with you. I shall grant whatever you want."

Hearing these words from the mouth of Lord Shiva, the girl said, "Oh friend of the poor, if you are pleased with me then please give me a husband." Repeatedly speaking the same words, "Give me a husband," five times, the girl then fell silent. Then Lord Shiva replied, "Let it be. You have asked for a husband five times, and so you will get five husbands."

Hearing Lord Shiva’s words, the girl became very ashamed. She said, "Oh Lord, it is most abominable for a girl to have five husbands. Please retract your words." Lord Shiva then spoke to her very gravely, "That is impossible for me. What you have asked from me will be granted. You will get five husbands in your next life. Previously you offended Purushottama month by not following the kind advice of sage Durvasa. Oh brahmana girl, there is no difference between the body of Durvasa and mine. All we demigods, including Lord Brahma and all the great saints like Narada, worship this Purushottama month in accord with the order of Lord Sri Krishna. A devotee of Purushottama month achieves all good fortune in this life and at the end of his life he goes back to Goloka Dham, the abode of Lord Sri Krishna. Being an offender to this sacred Purushottama month, you will get five husbands in your next life."

The girl become very remorseful, but Lord Shiva immediately disappeared from the place. After Lord Shiva’s departure the young brahmani became very morose and fearful about her future life. In this way, after few days, the girl left her body by the arrangement of providence.

Lord Sri Krishna then said, "Oh Arjuna, in the meantime the great king Draupada had been performing an elaborate sacrifice. From this sacrificial fire, the young brahmani took her birth. She appeared as the daughter of Maharaja Draupada. Oh Arjuna, the same daughter of Medhavi Rishi has now become famous in the world as Draupadi. She is none other than your present wife. Because she blasphemed the Purushottama month in her previous life, she was insulted by Dushasana in front of the whole Kuru assembly in the presence of all her Pandava husbands. Fortunately she remembered Me [Sri Krishna] and took My shelter. Forgiving her offenses, I protected her from that most abominable condition and saved her from the hand of Dushasana. Oh dear Pandava brothers, please don’t forget to worship the forthcoming Purushottama month. A person who blasphemes Purushottama month will never attain good fortune. This Purushottama month is fully potent to fulfill all your desires and remove all miseries. Now your fourteen years of forest life is coming to an end. Please worship this Purushottama month sincerely, for it will bestow all good fortune upon you." Giving full consolation to the Pandavas in this way, Lord Sri Krishna then left that place for Dwaraka.

After some time, when Purushottama month appeared, Maharaja Yudhisthira reminded his younger brothers and wife Draupadi of the words of Lord Sri Krishna. All of them followed the instructions He had given them. They worshipped Purushottama Sri Krishna in various ways during this sacred month. From the merit they achieved by performing Purushottama vrata, they regained their lost kingdom, and after enjoying a happy life they all returned back to Godhead by the grace of Lord Sri Krishna.

An intelligent person should engage himself in hearing Krishna katha from a pure soul. In this way, one should always meditate on Krishna and discuss His pastimes with other devotees. He should take rest thinking of Lord Sri Krishna within his heart. If one is a grihastha, he should perform his household duties in a truthful and peaceful way. He should not commit violence to others and should be merciful towards saintly people as well as to the poor. Protection of animals, truthful speech, mercifulness, and nonviolence are some of the important principles a grihastha should follow.

Suta Goswami then continued to relate this discussion between Lord Narayana and Naradji to the sages of Naimisaranya. He said, "O brahmanas, the great sage Narada Muni became very pleased by hearing all about Purushottama month from Lord Narayana. He paid his obeisances again and again to Him and began to speak, "Oh this Purushottama month is the best of all months, it is the best of all kinds of vratas and austerities. Even if one just hears the glories of Purushottama month faithfully, he will achieve devotional service to the Supreme Lord Purusottama, and all of his sinful reactions will be immediately nullified. One who performs Purushottama vrata and worships Purushottama month properly will achieve unlimited merit and thus attain Goloka.

Narada Muni then told Lord Narayana, "O Lord, now I am fully satisfied and my heart and mind are completely satisfied. All glories to You!"

After so explaining these glories of Purushottama month, Srila Suta Gosvami asked permission from the assembled sages to take their leave, bathe in the Ganges, and perform his other regular duties. They gratefully agreed, and he then paid them his humble obesiances and went to the Ganges. The sages of Naimisaranya then spoke among themselves, "Oh, this sacred Purushottama month is the most glorious, and its history is ancient. It is so merciful that it fulfills all of a devotee’s desires just like a desire tree. How glorious is Purushottama month!"
