The alpha Centauri system is the most next-lying star system, and our direct cosmic neighbour. Only 4.3 light-years are distant from our solar system, and a three-fold star system, consisting of alpha Centauri A, a yellow sun-similar star, and alpha Centauri B a smaller reddish star and Proxima Centauri, a small red Zwerg-Stern.
