In the search for the terms "global warming" or "climate change" Avaaz researchers found that the algorithm recommended YouTube videos disinformation piled up millions of views. Videos claimed that "global warming is a fraud , " scientists are wrong and blaming humans climate change is a "scam".

YouTube is not alone. Most network algorithms are programmed to maximize the time spent on these platforms, even if it means that millions of people are exposed to crackpot conspiracy theories and misinformation pure and simple.

The Guardian, Time and other influential media around the world have covered our findings - but if we let our guard, the media hype and everything could refer back to normal. We can not let that happen.
