To Break the Fear and Dim the Hate - Five Things You Love About Here and Now

Basically, this is exactly what the title says. I did this on Facebook because I've been listening to my aunt and my uncle and their constant posts about how terrible this or that is in politics, or…Continue

introduction to an x

Howdy =) I have been watching this site for quite some time through my mother Semile, and ultimately joined for her and because I've liked what I've seen thus far. I'm 22 years old - I don't feel it.…Continue

About Yourself & Spiritual Interests

I'm a writer. At this point I'd question if I'm anything else.

Your Teachers and/or Spiritual Sources of Inspiration
As far as I'm concerned, everybody can be a teacher and everybody can be a student. However, my greatest teacher is myself. My mother, Semile, is a close second. And, following immediately behind that, is the human race.
Books You have Read and Would Recommend
All sorts ^_^ I love reading books on writing and how to write. I also read a multitude of fiction, ranging from classical literature (Alexandre Dumas, Miguel Cervantes, Aldous Huxley...) to more present-day literature, especially transgressive fic (William Burroughs, Irvine Welsh, Chuck Palahniuk), to regular fantasy, sci-fi, young adult, etc. I like alternate world for my genre fiction, and I like intense character studies or a view into a downtrodden, ugly world in the rest of my fiction, usually.

Here's my list of books to read (most suggested to me by my friend Jamie, who helped me develop my taste in books through his suggestions, and inadvertantly helped me discover who I am as a writer):

- Naked Lunch by William Burroughs (got about halfway through it before I had to return it to the library)
- Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh (same as above, unfortunately)
- In the Skin of a Lion by Michael Ondaatje
- Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead by Tom Stoppard
- The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom
- The Raw Shark Texts by Steven Hall
- A Scanner Darkly by Philip K. D***
- Requiem for a Dream by Hubert Selby Jr.
- A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
- One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey
- Les Miserables by Victor Hugo
- Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy
- The Divine Comedy by Dante
- Tristan by Gottfried von Straussburg
Movies and Music you Would Recommend
I like a lot of movies. I'm going to include TV shows here too.

V for Vendetta, My Blueberry Nights, Martian Child, The Fall, War Inc, Remember Me, and Wonder Boys are my favourite movies. EVERY WRITER should see Wonder Boys. It is imperative. It really should go first in this list...

TV shows I watch...Dexter, True Blood, Bones, House, Firefly, Torchwood, and Doctor Who. Doctor Who saved my mother's life a couple of years ago, so I liked it before...and now it's beyond like; it's also a mother-daughter tradition to watch the series through before Christmas.
Your Goals, Visions and Desires
I want to get through school, and I want to be able to live off my writing. I write novels, and I want to have them published - and I want to live a Writer's Life. Yes, I have capitalized that.

I am a writer. Now I want to make that my whole life.

At some point, when I am older, I would like a son.

That title is something I personally believe, and have always believed, for a very long time. I feel like a lot of times misinformation gets passed around because people don't remember that. Sometimes it's easy to hear something and believe it without testing that knowledge against what you know of the past. If you're pastafarian, that's all fine and dandy - part of pastafarianism is that the Flying Spaghetti Monster changes scientific test results and history at will with His Noodly…

My status at the moment is describing an experiment I've been doing with my writing for a artistic experiment. You could call it trashcan beautiful...seeing the beauty in something as ugly as a trashcan. There is a wonderful book series written by the anonymous student of an adept - the student was later revealed to be Cyril Scott (you can look him up on Wikipedia). One of the books mentions how to attain eternal happiness...true happiness. It has to do with seeing the beauty in…

Oh, and, um, I hope you are learning. Although, learning ain't always happy. So, that's why I say I hope you are learning instead of I hope things are going well., I said hi, so... now I say goodbye.

Yep, my week is good. Hope you have better one. (Say that to people; (Have a good day! You have a better one!) It makes them think.)
