I’m going to write about something that society does not like to talk about but that has become a rising statistic of horrific proportion.  I ask that anyone contributing to this discussion keep the comments respectful of this very serious issue and honor the victims of these crimes in the manner they deserve.  Some would ask why this issue is posted on a spiritual website such as this one, and to that I answer that violence, especially sexual violence, obstructs our spiritual growth and is something that must be dealt with if we are to move into the future as whole and enlightened individuals in a balanced society of equality.

One would have to live under a rock to have missed the scandal involving Bill Cosby’s sexual assault accusations by over thirty women going back decades in which they proclaim he drugged and raped them while they were unconscious.  This is not a new crime by any means, and rape culture is a terrible aspect of western culture which the media encourages by subtle and not so subtle means.  The sexualisation of young girls has contributed to extreme cognitive dissonance within society in which women are seen as sexually liberated and encouraged by society to be alluring and yet they are “slut shamed” and persecuted for behaving in a liberal manner.  The majority of sex crimes go unprosecuted as the court system often put the victim on trial rather than the accused rapist, it is up the victim to prove that they didn’t “ask for it” and even in this modern age, women are persecuted for wearing provocative clothing rather than focusing on the perpetrator, whom statistics say will go on to victimize other individuals because more often than not, they are given a slap on the wrist judgement and do not pay for their crimes.

There has recently been a spotlight put on sexual assaults in the media as more celebrities come forward with their stories, which are often shamefully ignored such as the recent proclamation by the pop star Kesha that she was drugged and raped by her Svengali like producer.  This has mostly been discounted as a plea for attention because she sings about sex, drugs and partying and she dresses and dances provocatively (so of course she asked for it).  This summer another musician, former member of the group The Runaways, Jackie Fox (nee Fuchs) came forward about a traumatic event from her past, the public rape she experienced at a party by her manager in which she was drugged and assaulted in front of two of her bandmates and the rest of party in a particularly degrading manner at the tender age of fifteen.  It is stories like these which begin a dialog in which I believe we must look not only at the victims and give them the support they need, but we must also look at the society which produces these perpetrators.

Rape culture is not a western invention, upon investigation into the world statistics, I was appalled at the real numbers that the media sweeps under the rug and ignores.

The conclusion I have come to is that rape is an epidemic across the globe.  One would think it would be the poorer third world countries that have the highest rate of sexual assault, but surprisingly that is not the case.  Wealthy countries are just as likely to abuse women and children as any underprivileged nation; in fact some of the countries on the top ten list of rape against women and children are very shocking because they traditionally have liberal societies with much equality among the citizens.  Sweden, for example, has a very poor track record.

What I see is a pattern of systemic abuse of women across the globe, and this might cause some debate, but I feel that there is a conscious attempt to suppress womankind by the patriarchal system that runs this planet.

If I were to use my spiritual eye on this issue, I would suggest the Divine Feminine has been diluted as much as possible by the powers that be, in order to suppress the feminine power to make change.  Think of the women in your life… how many of them do you think have been assaulted?  The numbers are shocking, it is a cycle of aggression in which women are silenced and shamed.  Is it any wonder that war and violence are pandemic?   Women are not naturally warlike, imagine if the mothers, sisters and daughters had a valued opinion in matters of society.  Would we have war and economic suppression?  We don’t know yet.

Now that is not to say that men do not experience assault as well.  In fact, one of the most depressing statistics is that the average age of a male sexual assault victim is four years old.  The average age of females experiencing assault is fourteen.  Children are the most harmed category of the victims, because they are newly formed and not only helpless but the ruination their lives, physically and spiritually is often permanent.

So, where do we go from here?  How do women take back their power and yet still adhere to the loving qualities that we harbor in our wombs?

Well, there are few things we can do.  Number one, and most importantly, we must stop slut shaming victims and persecute rapists with every punishment available.  On that note, the laws must be changed to reflect the heinousness of the crime.  Only last week an American man was given a sentence of probation for the despicable act of rape of an infant.  Where are the protestors?  Where is Anonymous on this issue?  Until the courts treat this problem with the gravity it deserves, rapists will continue to behave as if they are entitled to the bodies of others without fear of reprisal.

Secondly, and again this may cause some debate; we must hold other countries accountable for how they treat rape culture by refusing to trade with them and disallowing them into our borders until they can learn to co-operate with evolution and respect the rights of ALL people to live without fear of sexual rape and exploitation.  This is a sticky issue and not easily solved, especially in countries which adamantly hold to ancient traditions of female persecution and suppression.  (I’m looking at you, Saudi Arabia.)  I’m not saying it will be easy, nor will it be solved over-night, it will likely take generations to smooth out the abuse and create equality, but isn’t it worth trying?

And thirdly, get involved.  Sign petitions, send letters to your local politician (they aren’t all bad- keep trying!), volunteer for victim services, join an online web group, DO something to show these victims that you care, that they are not alone and that no…it isn’t right what happened to them (or to you).

We CAN change this world for the better, and as much as meditation and focus of Love energy helps, it is the physical feet on the ground that we need now.  We need to stand up collectively and work together to manifest equality and support each other, knowing that it is our right to be free from abuse and that what affects one single person on this planet affects all of us.  We are ONE.

The following are some articles and statistics to bring home the truth of my words.   I ask that anyone experiencing abuse to know that you are not alone and to please contact a counsellor or support personnel to get the help that you need, there is no shame in what happened to you and your healing is what matters now.

Top 10 Countries With Maximum Rape Crimes

Rape is a particularly complex crime to analyse, in several parts of the world, it is very rarely reported. Women in some countries are much less likely to have their complaint recorded, due to the extreme social stigma cast on women who have been raped, or subjected to violence or the fear of being disowned by their families.

Rape and other sexual assaults statistics are commonly available in advanced countries, and are becoming more common. Large numbers of rapes go unreported throughout the world. Here, we’ve presented the statistics for 10 renowned countries with maximum rape crimes. (Rape statistics United Kingdom).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_statistics

Statistics on rape and other sexual assaults are commonly available in industrialized countries, and are becoming more common throughout the world. Inconsistent definitions of rape, different rates of reporting, recording, prosecution and conviction for rape create controversial statistical disparities, and lead to accusations that many rape statistics are unreliable or misleading. According to USA Today reporter Kevin Johnson "no other major category of crime – not murder, assault or robbery – has generated a more serious challenge of the credibility of national crime statistics" than rape.[1]

A United Nations statistical report compiled from government sources showed that more than 250,000 cases of rape or attempted rape were recorded by police annually. The reported data covered 65 countries.[2] In some jurisdictions, male-female rape is the only form of rape counted in the statistics.[3] The attitude of the police in many countries often discourages victims from reporting rape: one study in Turkey found that 33% of police officers agreed with the assertion that "some women deserve rape" and 66% agreed that "the physical appearance and behaviors of women tempt men to rape."[4]

In many parts of the world, rape is very rarely reported, due to the extreme social stigma cast on women who have been raped[citation needed], or the fear of being disowned by their families, or subjected to violence, including honor killings.[5] Furthermore, in countries where adultery and/or premarital sex are illegal, victims of rape can face prosecution under these laws, if there is not sufficient evidence to prove a rape in the court. Even if they can prove their rape case, evidence during investigation may surface showing that they were not virgins at the time of the rape, which, if they are unmarried, opens the door for prosecution.[6]

Countries may or may not criminalize marital rape, and, in many countries which do criminalize it, prosecutions for it are exceptionally rare. Sexual activity in marriage is, in many parts of the world, considered an absolute right of the husband that can be taken with or without the consent of his wife; the very act of a woman refusing to have sex with her husband may be considered unthinkable: in one survey, 74% of women in Mali said that a husband is justified to beat his wife if she refuses to have sex with him.[7] Though de jure, a rape law may be applicable to any victim; de facto the enforcement of the law often excludes certain victims, such as prostitutes, women who were not virgins at the time of the rape, or other women with a 'bad reputation'.[8]

    Yes, exactly!

  • Yes I understand, Mikail, however, a lot of people choose a path of celibacy and solitude, prefering to remain alone and they can be happy with that. Some people are very happy alone (alone, ALLONE) while others choose a "codependent" relationship or partnership and maybe they are also happy in it, maybe not, certainly, if its a "toxic relationshit", then not. Personally, I dont see living an expierence without a woman as "cold and fake", as it can be as real as you wish it to be, with or without a partner, imo. I think just because a person chooses to be on their own dosent mean it is cold and fake, it can be fullfilling in many ways. However, there is a lot to be said for the urge to be embraced in the loving arms of a woman and indeed, to hold a woman in your arms, I aggree. I often think about the whereabouts of my own "other half", so to speak, but I am also quite content to live as I am without her, occasionally, I think otherwise. Perhaps loneliness and sadness can be a real downer and I bet most people feel it, I think even in a strong relationship, it can exist there aswell.

    Blessings to you, my brother,

    Luke.
