I have similar experiences of what you had with games... for me, it was in two of greatest game I ever played.. One of them is Mass Effects and other is Dragon Ages. I highly recommend you try Mass Effect 1 first, then import your character saves into Mass Effect 2, and finally Mass effect 3. I have never been so deeply 'involved' with games emotionally and it made me 'realize' many things I didn't within myself.
Actually I have always felt I need other people to feel emotion. I am not a very emotional type myself. I can really get into a movie or song and feel it, and also with human interaction. But I never feel sad for myself for example. I never cried because of me. And sometimes find it hard to understand how people do that. For example, I have no money at the moment (NO money) no job, no house, no man (whahaha), no actual friends like other people tend to have (with the clingy part and stuff), no material possessions... And I am the happiest person on the face of the planet (well, that's a metaphor obviously). Just cannot feel sad because of this stuff. When people die (like my grandma) I feel like they are ok. I cry because I see other people cry and I will ofcourse miss them on some humane level, but I also know I don't have to miss them.
I love being human, but... Sometimes I wish I could just say these things to everyone and let everybody feel what I feel. So that we would all be insanely happy like I am. And funerals would just be grand fiesta's like marriages. I mean... It's just a body your losing. Hard to explain, but I feel anger/hate and stuff is just not in me. I could live my entire life physically alone in a jail cell and I would still be happy. Well... Yeah guess so.
