Your problem is the same one I had for a long time. You are trying to meditate. You need to find a song that speaks to your emotions. One that when you hear it you cannot help but find yourself lost in feeling. Then just put on some headphones so you can block out everything but that song and just close your eyes and let your mind go where it wants. If you do this a few times when you feel the need to relieve stress and learn to know the feeling of the meditative state then you will learn to meditate at the slightest thought. Most people make meditation seem like an exercise when in fact it is just a controlled daydream.

It had taken me much practice as well, even thought I made alot of it up until my mother and I went into meditation one day and asked the same questions that we had written down and come to find out, she got similar responses to them as I did and we saw the same things in our meditation.
