The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien is my all time favourite piece of literature. I was introduced to The Hobbit at 10 years old and was hooked. I've read The Lord of the Rings series countless times. Each time I glean more.
My favourite character, (I see all the characters as archetypes) is Gollum. To me Gollum represents pure negative ego. His story tells me the value of it. Early in The Fellowship of the Ring, Frodo remarks to Gandalf, "What a pity that Bilbo did not stab that vile creature, when he had a chance!' Gandalf says
'Pity? It was Pity that stayed his hand. Pity, and Mercy: not to strike without need. And he has been well rewarded, Frodo. Be sure that he took so little hurt from the evil, and escaped in the end, because he began his ownership of the Ring so. With Pity.'
'Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.'
This turns out to be very prophetic, for in the end Frodo did not have the strength of will to toss the Ring into the fires of Mount Doom. It was the obsessive, egoec lust for power in Gollum that won the day, as he bit the Ring from Frodo's finger, and fell into the abyss in his delirious dance of joy...and so saved Middle Earth.
To me this piece of the story is a metaphor for the negative ego in our world today. I have chosen to exclude no one from my life for this reason. I feel safe in the law of attraction. I know that whoever is with me in the now, online or in my daily life....is supposed to be. I know that I don't usually know the reason ahead of time. Our negative egos help teach others what love is, by showing them what it is not. We all automatically provide this service. When we search ourselves honestly for the same egoec quality we despise in another, we can glean even more from knowing them. We can expand unconditional love and non judgement energies in the collective consciousness of which we are a part. These higher frequencies cause the ascension process of the planet to be less traumatic and speed up.
To me, the Dark Lord was an archetype of the "love of power" on a large scale, such as the cabal. Gollum was an archetype of the "love of power" on a more human scale.
Gandalf, Aragorn, Elrond, Arwin and Galadriel were archetypes of the "power of love" on a large scale, such as Nelson Mandella, Gandi, Mother Teresa and Martin Luther King. Frodo was an archetype of the "power of love" on a more human scale.
I love these books. They have been teachers to me for many years. I would love to hear what others who love these books have gleaned from them.

LOL Skywalker!
I love everything Tolkien and Star Wars. And both their creators talk about many things in code. Both creators knew exactly what they were saying. There are some wonderful passages from both works that illustrate this clearly.
But many of the deeper meanings seem to be lost on the mainstream public. Both works also promote duality/polarity, it would've been nice if they enlightened the public that that is only a game. But than again, they are what they are. There is purpose in everything. Maybe that's left up to the new generation of revolutionary film makers to visualize....
I so love that they both aren't Hollywood, they probably wouldn't be all that useful if they were.
